Ok that made my decision easier as to where to get my Kindle because shockingly thats the 2nd generation regular Kindle Fire not the HD.

have you personally seen/HELD the 8.9 HD ?  is the extra $ worth it to get the screen size?  My eyes are getting worse so considering the bigger screen but wondering if it makes much of a difference. I don't minding spending extra if it helps me, but I can't seem to get anyone's opinion who has seen both.

Yes, My youngest has had one since July.  I don't think it makes much difference when you are reading a book, playing a game, or watching a movie, but it makes a big difference when you are looking at a web page, editing a word document, or working on a spreadsheet.  When I travel, I prefer the original Fire since it slips into my pants pocket which is handy when you need your hands for other things.

 

Bottom line is that my kid has no preference and my wife prefers the 8.9" model.  I guess you will need to figure out what you are going to do with your fire and go from there.

I would definitely head over to Staples or Best Buy to hold one of each before making a decision.

I went from the 7" to the 8.9", and I can see a difference. My main reason for going bigger was to load the ads and keep it with me on BF . I could do it on the 7", but it's a bigger difference than you might think on the 8.9.

Allshoppedout have you looked at something bigger.  I have an Asus 10" tablet with keyboard and I can see fine.  I also have problems with smaller ones.  Also Staple is going to have the Microsoft Surface for $249 with a keyboard and it is a 10".  Works like a 10" laptop almost (with touch screen)

Thinking about heading to Staples during this to grab that Nexus 7. Anyone know what the limit is on things like this? If I could get two, that'd be amazing.
