Salman Khan
I bought pny for my old computer, which is why I ended up building myself a new computer. As soon as I put the memory in and turned it on, it started to burn the motherboard. Now for my desktops I have kingston brand, and just bought corsair for my laptop and it is working wonderfully.Oh man!......you are making me nervous. What sucks is that on the PNY website, it shows that it has been certified by all major computer manufacturers. I got the PNY Optima 512MB PC2700 memory. I haven't gotten to installing it, should I go ahead and return it?

As with all products, occasionally you get a bad stick. If you already have it, go ahead and use it. Don't worry about frying the mobo, I've been doing pc repair since memory cards were the size of a manila envelope (16 years, from 8086 up to today) and have never heard of a mobo frying from bad memory, most likely it was installed opposite the nubs or not pushed in all the way. Just go to radio shack and get an ESD strap (about 6 bux) and don't do it on the carpet. Google "pc upgrades memory" there are a LOT of sites that tell how to do it safely and correctly.
