happytreefriends Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 have you ever thought that maybe one year a company will print up a fake ad and send it to stores to be "leaked" to dupe the competition into changing there ads, or not changing them because they beleive the ads ar legitimate, then on the day the ads come out, bam! the ad is totally different and the competition as well as ppl who thought ahead are cought off guard totally?
Brad Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 wouldnt happen as the ads need to be printed and distributed well in advance of BF.
zgamer Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 To a point, ads usually need to be completly printed one-week prior to the date the paper will start to be distributed.
the kabuki Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 ah, but what if a company made two ads-one real and one fake??
happytreefriends Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 yea, had the real ad printed in the newspaper, and the fake one at the regular plants, and shipped to stores with a pdf of the real ad sent to the store manager to print out until the real one showed up?
daz Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 then some kind employees would leak them both and make us guess :)
happyrat Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I have often wondered why stores do not do that. The could print up two totally different ads. Then no one would really ever know what was on sale. Glad they don't though.
bayhaysay Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 There is one simple reason I don't think retailers will do that: We are free advertising for them! I think I"ve said this before on hear somewhere, if I were CEO of a major BF retailer I'd probably leak the ad myself. What better way to get the word out, get everyone excited and ready to go. Looks to me like it would be an awful lot of trouble to make up a fake ad. That's just gonna pi$$ their customers off and they wouldn't want that.
Mike Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 As Brad stated, ads are made months in advance. There are too many stops and prep work to make a "fake" ad.
Guest all2tired Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 But if the printer messed up and printed a ton of the fake ads that accidentally got put into the newspapers, then the stores would HAVE to honor them and heads would probably roll. Not that I'd care mind you LOL

happytreefriends Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 yea, but the fake ad idea would be funny to do
ramona1992 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 The main reason would be the cost of producing a fake ad. Even the cost of paying the graphic designers would probably not be worth it - let alone actually printing something. That would not be cost effective at all.
ReillyCheyenne Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I work at ToysRUs and we only get a few of the BF ads on the week of BF and the only ones who get to see them are the off hours stock crew and the managers and floor supervisors, and sometimes me.

That would not be cost effective at all.Agree, it cost our dinky town alot of money just to print a weekly paper for our town, I couldn't even begin to imagine what it would cost for a major company. Also they can't do a fake ad for that would be false advertisement and the company could be fined alot of money. It wouldn't be worth it.
whymeintrouble Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 The cost and possible confusion would be horrible for a retailer to produce a fake ad. besides, if they weren't leaked, you can still find out what stuff was in the ad, you just have to be creative. most stores will have minimum quantities separated out for the BF ad. if you can find where they are, you can see just how much overall stock they have. I usually do this 1-2 days before hand, especially if there is something I need.
SuperMommy Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 I think putting out fake ads would enrage too many customers and could cause a boycott!!
Guest general41391 Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Ads must be complete by first week of NOVEMBER
