khkabowski
My nine and ten year old boys are interested in getting an ipod touch. They want it for taking pictures, making movies, watching movies, playing online games, etc. I have no idea where to start. Do I want to look at the Ipod or more like the Nook or Kindle? Are the Nook and Kindle more like tablet computers. If I go with an Ipod, which generation? How much memory do they need? Please help. I am so confused. racerfan
The 8gb Ipod touch goes for about $199 unless you can get a deal with a gift card etc. The Nook and Kindle start of at around $79.00 Nook and Kindle are ereaders for reading books only, unless you go up to the Nook Tablet or the Kindle Fire which are tablets they can read on (not e-ink but a lcd screen) Both of those tablets do not have cameras. the tablets are $249 for the Nook Tablet and $199 fo rthe Kindle Fire. The Ipod touch has a camera.
riversedgemast
My daughters 9 & 15 both have 4th gen ipod touches and my 7yr old son has a hand me down 2nd gen. They love them. Lots of apps, can put all their music on them, take picts. They sell everywhere for$199. You can get them from the apple store online for the same, with FREE engraving and free shipping. 9 yr old also has a Nook, but no picts or apps like the ipod. I recommend getting a www.squaretrade.com warrenty on them, covers drops and spills for about $30 for 2 yrs. If you go with a Nook get a warrenty from squaretrade for it too (cheaper than what they try to sell & so easy to use)
khkabowski
Thanks for the information. Do the ipods ever go on sale, or come with free gift cards or anything? TIA
mom2monkiesx3
have you looked at the Kindle Fire? My oldest HAS an Ipod Touch, he's almost 14 and my youngest wanted a Ipod touch, he just turned 8. But BOTH have now put Kindle Fire on their list. I got them both one and think it was definatly the best option for us (free streaming video with a prime account)
amood06
Thanks for the information. Do the ipods ever go on sale, or come with free gift cards or anything? TIAI think so close to Christmas you'll probably pay regular price and they'll have a nice store GC to go with it. My daughter got a Touch for her birthday and loves it. I went refurbished from the Apple Store, I don't see any 32gb in stock right now which is what I would recommend. Try checking in with that website daily. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipod/ipod_touch
peppysfireball
I got my son the kindle fire also. I have a kindle with over 800 books on it, but he's more interested in netflix streaming. I won't use the prime, their selection is a fraction of netflix's.
