allshoppedout
Any of you use electric pressure cookers on a regular basis Do your children like how the meals taste? I was thinking of getting one, but wanted to hear some opinions first. Also, if we have a family of four, what size do I want? Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks,
Cinnamonhuskies
6 qt. size, we love ours, but I had a Mirro first, it lasted 9 years then started leaking team...I replaced the gasket, but it kept leaking so i think it needed a spring and I never found the right one....so i got a Presto, and have been happy with it. I use it quick cooking potatoes and squash, and for tough meats. oops...just reread your post and saw it was an electric one you were looking at. I use a stove top one. Sorry. peppysfireball
I haven't used a pressure cooker since I got my smooth top stove, can't use them on it and I've never seen an electric one.

peppysfireball
Yeah, it will shatter the glass top. It says no cast iron and no pressure cookers in huge letters on teh front page of the manual. THey appliance guy says they get too hot and the top is either ceramic or glass which can't handle the heat.

AndreaInNC
But an electric pressure cooker sits on the counter - not on the stove.

You want an electric one so this doesn't affect me but you did help US out. My mom said she'd check her manual EVEN after I told her, old habits die hard I guess. peppysfireball
I got my manual out. Here is the exact quote on canning, Have't gotten to teh cast iron one yet. CAN I CAN/? Canning is not recommended with any Amana smoothtop ranges due to the intense heat and large cookware required to can. The heat generated by teh canning cookware overheats both the elements and the smoothtop. This can cause the cooktop to crach, cause ssfailure of the heating elements or can cause damage to the background. Damage caused in this way is not covered by warranty. I am thinking I may not want one after all-- I checked reviews on many kinds off Walmart site, Amazon, QVC, and so many have mixed reviews, they'll have really great review and then there will be some reviews from people who said they had them 3 mos. or 6 mos. and they either stopped working---or they LEAK, or the valve goes... Perhaps more trouble than they are worth? I mean 70 + is alot (to me) to spend on something that could end up only working well for 6mos-a year...and then either die or need parts replaced. Any additional comments on that? My husband gets home diff. times/work schedule can change daily and to be able to do a fresh meal really good, like roast, veggies etc in less than an hour sounded really appealing.....instead of microwaving or left overs n' at..... I had the same issue when we replaced our old microwave with an over the stove one, they all had horrible reviews and for $100+ I wanted it to last more than a year. AndreaInNC
I know it's off topic - but do you have a timer feature on your oven? I would assemble meals and freeze them. I would let them defrost all day in the oven and it would be ready when I got home from work. I'd buy whatever they use on Top Chef .. those get a workout!
