bfaddict1977 Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I'm afraid to go out on bf this year. I have 5 kids and will get out at some point but before bf I need some major ticket items and I can't see dragging my kids out bf just to save a few bucks. Can I possibly score 2 cheap netbooks, a camera that's decent, 2 dsi's, 1 3dsi for decent money or will there probably not be any good sales? Here I start christmas shopping in october because that's when I get my big bonus. I like to have it all done and not worry I've missed something. If anyone has any ideas I'm open. Last yr I ordered that cheap $99 netbook from 6th ave electronics and it was trash. I promised dd a netbook this year that works and connects to the internet. She is 8. I saw some at $275 at target. Is this the best? Thanks.
tinkrbel Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 just sign up for email reminders for different store sales and keep an eye out. I missed an email yesterday that had a video camera for 29.99 down from 99.99. Maybe people can mention stores that might be useful. I know I get the amazon daily deal reminder and ebay daily reminder plus meritline (great for cables/cheap dvd sleeves). I'd think BestBuy, RadioShack and any other electronic stores you have near you. Fry's appears to have had some great deals for Labor Day if you have any near you may be worth signing up for email notifications. Some people think it's ridiculous to keep an eye out year round but every little helps if you can afford to get it beforehand.
jade2002 Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Walmart had netbooks on sale last year right before BF for $179. I think there was 5 different colors to choose from. May have them cheaper this year.
Scanner420 Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I think I read from a post on here that Amazon's going to have sales starting the week before Thanksgiving.
jellybean051901 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Walmart usually has a sale a week or two after Halloween. They usually have a few good electronic deals.
Rockfordmom Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I got my son a netbook from Target last year that was just over $100 and it still works fine & connects to the internet, for $300 you can get a cheap laptop.
bigjimslade Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I did some shopping before BF and did well.

Is this the best? Thanks. You asked numerous things so I'll try answering each. First, I would always recommend waiting till BF. I saw numerous deals on items but then on BF you can usually expect another 10-20% or more off even those prices. I have purchased netbooks as well. There are a main things to consider. First, it is not a laptop, it will never be as fast as a laptop. Also they don't have cd/dvd drives. Last year I grabbed a few for $149 (Acer 1 gig processor 160 gig hd, webcam, etc). While it is nice to have rather than carry a laptop, they are much slower, can not run as many programs at the same time, and it cost about another $50 to get a cd/dvd drive. My main purpose was to have something small rather than carry a bulkier laptop with me. It serves my purpose, but unless you intend to take it out of the house enough to make it worthwhile, you are much better with a laptop. I would not be too surprised to see the Acer for about $129 or less this year, but if you get a drive, unless you are looking for something mainly for portability, you should be able to pick up a more powerful laptop for about $149 (I expect the BB Toshiba to be about this price this year) and many other places for about $199. Also I would recommend stick more to proven brands. You said you bought a netbook for $99 that was garbage, rather than throwing out $99, for another $50 you could have gotten an Acer (proven quality). Problem is if you are comparing the netbook to a laptop, they will all be garbage in a head-to-head competition.

May have them cheaper this year.If I remember correctly, this was the Acer One. Exact same specs as the one Target and Radio Shack had for $149, with the only exception being no choice of colors.
bfaddict1977 Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 THANKS. I saw an acer at walmart for $228 I believe I'm going to purchase. I know netbooks run slower but my last netbook was an acer and served it's purpose well. DD won't be taking it out. Just wants to play games and surf the net. I'm afraid though if I wait till bf they won't give me 2 of them and they'll be sold out.

I think it also came in chocolate. She loves it and we have not run into an issue with her wanting to do anything that it was incapable of doing. For her age and it being her first personal computer, we thought it was perfect.

She liked it for the first couple of days but then started complaining about how slow and small it was. Her b-day was in February so she got a laptop and her dad got her netbook, lol.
