biomajor
My 16 YO son has never been disappointed with gifts from us, but my mother in law is on his list LOL She sends shirts that are the wrong size and stuff like that. He's a video game junkie and isn't into football at all and she sends him Cowboys gear LOL (I'm a Titans fan!!) Once she sent him a set of hot wheels (he was 13 or 14) She also can't remember his birthday for anything, but calls me on October 1st every year to remind me that hers is coming up. His is the 12th. She does better with my daughter, but she buys stuff for her that she's too old for but Tiffy doesn't complain. The grandchild who lives with her is 1 1/2 years younger than Tiff and she is always saying "but Savannah liked it"
brynnfromtheblock
My kids are too young, they love everything... I have to admit growing up though we had an Aunt Ercel who god bless her sent us something every year, but it was kind of like a Seinfeld episode, either we couldn't figure out what they were or they were totally inappropriate. It became a tradition each year that we wanted to open our Aunt Ercel present's first to see what they were. One year I got a cabbage patch kids key chain (I was probably 18). My aunt got this flannel chicken thing that we thought was a hat but ended up being something to put on a basket of eggs??!!!

My aunt got this flannel chicken thing that we thought was a hat but ended up being something to put on a basket of eggs??!!!LOL! That is too funny! I have an aunt who was the same way. Her gifts were always totally random and hoot to open. Not only were her gifts odd, but so was the wrapping. We would gather at my grandmother's for Christmas. Everyone would be there, but we would always have to wait for my Aunt. She would finally come in with the gifts in a garbage bag slung over her shoulder. She would take the unwrapped gifts out of the bag, put them in grocery bag and hand it to you as you watched her....sometimes, she'd just take wrapping paper and wad it around the gift. So, essentially, she would wrap your present and give it to all at the same time. It was hilarious...you just couldn't be mad at her b/c she's kind of scattered and eccentric....she eventually started giving money and it wasn't as fun any more. One year, she bought my sister this weird halter top with fringe...my sister was about 15 years old when she gave her that....she gave me a strange little hobo doll one year...I was in high school...I don't even know where she got that stuff. To answer the question though, I don't have any kids...but as child, I think I was pretty easy to please...my sister on the other hand was a different story.. elena_398
My kids get too much so if anything they are even more excited christmas morning. I have one who knows that mom and dad provide christmas and one who thinks it santa. It was so funny last year because she came downstairs and saw the spread all around the tree and said, " Wow Santa really must think we were good this year"! My husband and I laughed so hard at that one

The in-laws send my kids clothes that are several sizes too big or too small, even though I email the correct sizes out. MIL sent a "happy 3rd birthday" card to DS for his 4th birthday this month too.
MarkRaby
Since my childhood is still in recent memory, I'll talk from a first-person perspective and say that I really have never been disappointed with a Christmas gift from my parents. In fact, they usually surprise me by getting most of the stuff on my list and then some other stuff that I end up enjoying a lot as well. The only thing I can remember is when I was around 8 years old, I asked for a typewriter (a small, kids-sized one), they got one for me, and then I realized I didn't actually want it, so they were nice enough to return it for me and let me buy something else without seeming upset at all. And thinking back, it was from our local Service Merchandise store. Wow...does anybody remember that store? It was a big department store and I just loved it, but I think the entire company went out of business. -Mark-

And you had to tell the people which thing you wanted, and then it came on this little conveyor belt! Man, I was young when that store was around.
