peifgirl
I got my kids and hubby an Xbox 360 with some games for Christmas. I am pretty sure he is going to want to do whatever it is you do with the Xbox Live (I'm not a gamer so no clue). What is the best way to get a deal on it? Can you get deals on them? Or where do you even buy a subscription for it?
Deal Grabber
Live is one of those things that doesnt go on sale often.BUT Amazon does have it on sale sometime for $39.99 for a 12 month card. Its usually $49.99.You can get it in any B&M store.Wait till Sunday and see if its on sale somewhere or check Amazon. The games you bought MIGHT have a free trial. My sons games come with them sometimes.Just a FYI you might want to pick up a headset so they can chat with outher ppl.A wired one is like $20.HTH. racerfan
I second the headset and also if your house has a wireless router you will have to look into getting either a wireless adapter to go online, or hardwire it. For Live to work you need internet access. Also keep an eye on Ebay and Buy.com I picked up the 12 month membership for $38.99 on Buy and have seen it for similar price on ebay. peifgirl
That wireless thing so they can go online. Can I get one so it catches the signal from another room? My wireless router is in the next room. Our Wii can pick up the signal from it just fine. Thanks for the help! The headphone thing, I'll leave that up to my hubby. My boys are 7 (well 8 in April). I don't allow them to do online gaming and defiantly won't let them "chat" with people online. But thanks for the suggestions for Dh.
Cinnamonhuskies
Try getting a package that comes with the headset AND a Live card if possible. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Live-Month-Messenger-Gold/dp/B001EKTF60/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1292602313&sr=8-8 Ypou can find these at Best Buy or other retailers.Yes alot of new games come with a small trial, usually a few days. I watch Amazon for sales on the 12 month cards and get one every Christmas for each of the boys' stockings. And yes you will need either a wireless adapter or hardwire the system into the modem.http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Network-Adapter-Networks/dp/B002RS7NB2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292602515&sr=8-

Yes with the wireless adapter it will pick up the router from another room. We have our router Upstairs in the Master Bedroom and DS Xbox is downstairs in the Game room and it worked fine. I got a linksys adapter not the Xbox adapter, at the time it was cheaper and it worked fine. We no longer use it since we got the new Xbox slim which is wireless. By the way you said you just got the Xbox, is it the new slim version if so it should be wireless so you wont need the adapter, it will connect to your router you would just have to put in the keycode if you have one for it to lock onto the router. The new Xbox works just like the wii now that it is wireless. Edited December 17, 2010 by racerfan
Deal Grabber
If she got a newer model Xbox it should already have wi-fi built in so no need to buy the wireless adaptor. If it has built in wireless it will pick up your router no matter what room its in.Our router is in the other end of the house and my sons xbox is upstairs and we have no problem. Kibit13
The yearly price of Xbox Live has gone up, but it is still less than paying monthly. I think the new price is about $59.99 You should find out if your husband will want to play online. Like some of the other posters wrote many of the games do come with a free trial subscription. You may want to make sure he'll play online first because you won't be able to get a refund on the 12 month subscription if he doesn't end up using it. Check to see if you have a newer Xbox 360 because those come with the wifi built in.
peifgirl
I got a 360 4gb one from Walmart. Looks like the one in this link but that is not the bundle I got. I got the bundle that came with 3 games. That is the only 4gb one they have left on walmart's web site. This sounds like something I should just wait and let him get instead of getting it ahead of time. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Xbox-360-4GB-Console-w-Kinect-2-Additonal-Games-Bundle/15042490
HansieDZ
This isn't the full year membership but Best Buy has the 3 month Gold Live for $19.99 this week (reg. $25).Since I was only going to spend around $25 for this son,I'm going with this (I have a $20 BB gift certificate)and keep looking for a good deal on the year membership. His birthday is late February so hopefully I'll be able to pick one up by then. peifgirl
I exchanged my 4gb one for the 250gb one last night at Walmart. They had them on sale. Well you got a $75 in store credit card back when you bought it. I heard from my SIL that it takes 1-1 1/2 gb just to run it. That does not leave much space to save any of your games. Plus the 250gb one came with a headset.
