Guest Frieked Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Ouch, that hurts when I got the A510 for more than that just a couple month ago... used some giftcards which I got for free to bring my actual cost below this though.
joonshin Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 damn i want this so bad, but i already have a nikon 3700. 3mp,3x optical zoom... man an upgrade to a 4mp, 4x optical zoom would be so bad ass. =(
mrn8 Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Actually, that upgrade wouldn't do much for you. You would want to at least double a feature for you to get a noticeable improvement. The price is great, though, but the camera you have isn't all that much different from the Canon.
cronos Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 hmm... i still have a valid DPA $25 off too (which i believe will not stack but could replace the $20 off to drop the price $5 more).
OmegaZero Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 My GF & I got this camera for her sister and I really liked it (and I am used to the Digital Rebel/Digital SLR's). I didn't want to spend $, but I might pick this up to replace the aging, dying Canon Elph S100

RossMAN Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Wow this is tempting. Someone help me choose between my Canon PowerShot S200 and this A520. The S200 is an older model, only 2MP but a nice small form factor. This is a great price though.

This is a great price though.i think you should. like mrn8 said, for me going from 3mp,3opt-zoom to 4-4 isn't that big of an upgrade, but for you it's 2MPto4MP... for under $150.... i'd do it....

The S200 is an older model, only 2MP but a nice small form factor. This is a great price though. The S200 IS smaller, but not by much and anyways, the A520 is much more feature-rich than the S200. I'd go A520 anyday.
RossMAN Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I also prefer the A520 since it takes regular AA's (rechargeables are cheap and plentiful) rather than Lithium Ion.
mrn8 Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I also prefer the A520 since it takes regular AA's (rechargeables are cheap and plentiful) rather than Lithium Ion.Plus, it only needs 2 AA's as opposed to the 4 AA's the old A series cameras took.
RossMAN Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Plus, it only needs 2 AA's as opposed to the 4 AA's the old A series cameras took.SOLD! Going to buy it right now before this deal ends and I begin kicking myself.
mbony Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I'm getting ~$10 for tax. Anyone else gettin that much for taxes?
RossMAN Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I'm getting ~$10 for tax. Anyone else gettin that much for taxes?0% Oregon sales tax (yes I'm gloating)
RossMAN Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I just placed my order $140.40 shipped, thank you everyone for your input :)
mrn8 Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I'm getting ~$10 for tax. Anyone else gettin that much for taxes? It's calculated with your local state sales tax percentage. Mine is $7.02 for this order.
Keebelf Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Very nice but I am not tempted by anything under 12x optical zoom. lol. This Panasonic DMC-FZ30/20/5 research has really jaded me.
RossMAN Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Very nice but I am not tempted by anything under 12x optical zoom. lol. This Panasonic DMC-FZ30/20/5 research has really jaded me.You're comparing apples to oranges. The A520 is a compact digicam with basic manual and auto features. The Panasonic DMC-FZ30 is an SLR style camera which is 1 or 2 levels higher than a basic P&S digicam. Comparison of the Canon PowerShot A520 vs. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30. It's like comparing a Ford Taurus to a Chevy Corvette Bang for your buck the Canon A520 for $139 vs Panasonic DMC-FZ30 $560 ... the Canon wins if you need a basic digicam.
EagleEye Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Wow, this is a great price. I got the A520 from Dell Home for 163 shipped a month or two ago. Its a great camera. My only complaint is that it takes a long time between shots (2 to 3 seconds), so you can't take rapid succession shots, but still a great camera!
mrn8 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 These must have sold like crazy! The est ship date on mine is Oct 21st and the status is backordered. Good thing I don't need it until Christmas day!
RossMAN Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Good thing I don't need mine anytime soon either :)
mrn8 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Good thing I don't need mine anytime soon either :)Did you clear a spot in the oven for it yet?
RossMAN Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Did you clear a spot in the oven for it yet? Although my wife doesn't think so
mrn8 Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Mine showed up today, so the rest of you who are waiting should expect your cameras to show up soon. I didn't get a shipping notice, so it was kind of a suprise that it did show today.
Mike Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I hope everyone considering buying a digicam jumped on this. Best compact digi camera compared to everything else probably $300 and under.
stormiewx Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I have just tried to use both coupons and unfortunately both are expired. However, Dell still has this camera on sale for $169.15.
RossMAN Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I have just tried to use both coupons and unfortunately both are expired. However, Dell still has this camera on sale for $169.15.Please see the original post date of 10/6, this was posted almost 1 month ago. Dell coupons usually last 2-3 days on average. Even at $169 it's a good deal. My Canon A520 just arrived the other day, I haven't opened the box yet.
fairydustcrissy Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Are therer any Dell Codes out right now? I am looking for a digicam, and this seems to be a decent one at a good price. Would be better with codes though.
