Before you buy the Kinect, make sure you have enough space in the room where you will have this set up. Many of the games will tell you how much space you should have, but I've been hearing from friends that they aren't all accurate. It won't be an issue for everyone, but for people with smaller living areas the Kinect could be difficult if not impossible to use. We had a Wii and didn't have problems with it, but when we tried to play a friends Kinect one weekend at our home. It wouldn't work.

 

Microsoft suggests 36 sq feet for 1 person and 48 sq feet for two. This Popsci article recommends 48 sq feet for 1 person and 60 sq feet for two. Um..wow!

Microsoft suggests a space of six feet by six feet in front of the Kinect sensor for one player, and eight feet by six feet for two players(The Kinect can currently only handle two players at once, though that'll probably change in the future.) In my experience, those numbers are the bare minimum--for comfortable and spacious play, I'd recommend eight-by-six for one player and ten-by-six for two players. Get ready to shove your couch backwards and haul your coffee table into the kitchen--it's a necessary evil of playing Kinect.

We've been wanting to get the Kinect ever since we first heard of Project Natal, but we just don't have the room unless we move every piece of furniture out of our living room. It just isn't possible.

I don't know about buy 1 get 1 free. I know Amazon has the Kinect games right now for Buy 1 get 1 50% off. Have not heard about a $10 off.

OMG! I just got back from Toys R Us. I had to go to 2 stores to get it, but I got the deal. And my MIL works for them so I got an additional 10% off. So... 2 Kinects for $215.00 after tax! Woohoo! Thanks for posting the TRU deal Hack!

Don't forget to check your local Sam's Club....I got mine from them yesterday $148.88. The website shows "out of stock" but I called the local store and they got in 6 of them - OMG!!!!!

I ask the lady to do a fax & pull to make sure that I got one....she was super nice and didn't have a problem doing it.

I called my local Toys R Us yesterday they didn't have any. I went after work they had them in stock. I was happy!! As I was checking out the clerk told me about the promotion buy 1 get 1 50% and it would work with the connect purchase. So I purchase another XBOX controller the wireless rechargable kind it came down to $24.99. The sale ends 12/11/2010.

Well now I own four Kinects. I ordered two from Best Buy yesterday, which will come later this week. After reading the above thread I went to TRU on a whim and they finally got in Kinect after being sold out for weeks. I was able to buy one and get the other one half off! So happy! I will now have to return the Best Buy ones but I'm sure it will make someone very happy.
