RossMAN Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Great deal especially on the $499 laptop. This just got even hotter! On the 2nd page don't forget to select the FREE warranty upgrade:1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr At-Home Service, and 1Yr Technical Support [Free!]
i-bystander Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 FYI - the $499 is a 1200, not a 2200. Just tried pricing one out, and I don't understand a couple things... (highlighted in red). It doesn't reflect on the details. Also, can we get free shipping on these? Any additional coupons we can stack? How about EPP? I called my rep at Dell, and you can't get this deal with EPP, which for a mid-market company is an additional 12% . He said we could get free shipping on those models, but at the EPP pricing level. It came out to bet $614 for the Inspiron 1200 configured to the specs of this deal.

What about the specs I highlighted in red? What's the deal with that?
mrn8 Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I'm guessing it's just a gimmick, mostly. The HD is pretty standard. The combo drive is too. The wireless card is in fact an upgrade that they are including for free.
BobbyDouglas Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 WOW!!! I get all the free option I want. Noticed I said option without an s. Dell Wireless 1350 External Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps) [ Free! ] For this sale, Dell changed the options so that you could only select a few things, in my case, a single upgrade. This reminds me of the 40% off coupon on the laptops, however it only worked out for the better if you spend $3k+ and need the 3 yr warranty. I'd suggest going for the $750 off $1499 when it comes along again. This laptop is going to be soooo slow, you will just be upset with it. If you need something to do basic word processing, it should be just o k. But why not spend an extra $250 and get something that will replace most people's desktops?
mrn8 Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 You also get a 1-year at home warranty and Norton Internet Security for 18 months. Like I said before, the cost of this system is over $600, even with the Dell EPP program, so it's really not a bad deal. If they gave you the processor, memory, hard drive, battery upgrades for free they would be losing a ton of money.

At this point, I'm thinking the best they are going to do is 33% off. I hope I'm wrong, but going by the tone of their comments, it doesn't look good. You all were spoiled before with the great deals and now you're paying for it

You all were spoiled before with the great deals and now you're paying for it Add to that this recent announcement. So, looking back at what I posted up top... is it a 8X CD/DVD Burner or a 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive? Is it an internal or an external wireless card?
Brad Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Add to that this recent announcement. So how are they going to ship the computers then? I thought they always used UPS/FedEx? Picking it up at the post office wouldn't bother me at all if it's free. As for your config, Ray, I'm thinking it's a combo drive and an external (PC Card) wireless card - not integrated. I think the DVD Burner Savings (and all those other "savings" that are listed) apply to only a few of the 4 configs, which is why all of them are listed, but the total savings is only $39 - for the WiFi card - as that is the only upgrade for the $499 model.

Nope, look again - there's a $39.00 (wireless), a $79.00 (security software), and an $89.00 (1st year service) in there. Now you see why I'm confused?
i-bystander Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I think I got it. The $499 model only has those three upgrades for free - the other models let you take the rest of them.
jonottawa Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 If Dell is discontinuing deals, and the name of this site is GottaDeal.com ... you fill in the rest. I had planned to buy a new computer this fall, but if they aren't gonna play ball and offer me (even briefly) decent value for my hard-earned coin, they can keep their overpriced boxes.

They are still going to offer deals, just not the 40% we saw in the past. Amie
