freebird Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Alright so I've never been at Toys R Us for black friday before so I HAVE NO IDEA what the lines are like. I was betting on Wal-Mart having a $50 itunes card on every ipod touch this year like they did this year but instead this year there only handing out $50 walmart gift cards to buyers of the 8gb model so TRU here i come! but I need help. Since I've never been to TRU for black friday I have no clue how there store works. So obviously I'm getting a iPod but when should I start waiting in line? Will they carry extra stock for black friday or no? Also I heard from a friend that last year where I live my Toys R Us had staff stand facing the lines and yell asking if anybody was here for such and such EX: "IS ANYONE HERE FOR THE TRANSFORMERS?" "IS ANYONE HERE FOR THE iPOD?" and if you raised your hand you were given a slip confirming you would get that product. Do they do that at every store or how is the setup at your store. I live in the midwest fyi but basically I want to know everything about TRU on black friday. Please help and thanks in advance
Jen8112 Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Everywhere is different but last year my TRU opened at midnight, I was there about 9pm and was roughly 12th in line. The employees came out about 10pm with tickets going from the front back until they were gone with items like iPods, PS3's and ZhuZhu Pets. Because they are opening at 10pm this year more people might be there. If I were doing TRU this year I would probably want to be there by 6-7pm. If TRU is close to you you can always swing by every 1/2 hour to hour to see how many people are in line.
freebird Posted November 19, 2010 Author Posted November 19, 2010 ok so wait i wanna clear up something. they just went down the line and asked if u wanted this or that? or did they just stand there and yell and ask?
princesschaos13 Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 At my TRU they went down the line asking. We got there at 10 for the midnight opening and were around 150th in line.
karen hurford Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Does anyone know, if Toys R Us has the same sale online, that they have in the store?-----I would like to have Chuck, but the nearest store is 3 hours away
elena_398 Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 In my area... You have to get there so early. It opened at midnight last year. I got there by 8pm. I was roughly 100th in line (Maybe 120). Of course last year was the hamster craze so it could be a little better this year.. Not sure. lol
jodeee Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Freebird what city are you in? They did this at my local TRU last year (1st time they did it), but they walked down the line yelling and handing out the card, and u had to go to customer service to pick up the items. Strange but pretty nice.ok so wait i wanna clear up something. they just went down the line and asked if u wanted this or that? or did they just stand there and yell and ask?
citrixgirl Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 i did toys r us last year and although i was not there for anything major still got there at about 10 and was about 50th in line and I got a slip for something that i i thought i might want.. ended up giving to someone in back of me that wanted it. we had police at the front door and by the time they opened the line was around the parking lot and going down the hill.... was funny as we were leaving people were begging for our cart. I know people have said that the line in the store goes around the building but the way they did it at my store was they let 35 people in to start and then it was a person leaves a person gets in. also they had a line to get in line in the gift wrap section it worked out well because u were not wondering what line to get in for the fastest check out.

oldandintheway Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 (edited) Freebird, I don't know how popular the Ipod deal is going to be at Toys R Us this year, but my suggestion to you is to call your store and speak to the store manager on Monday or Tuesday and ask him how many Ipods will the store have for the Black Friday sale. Then base your game plan on that information. If your store only has a small quantity of the Ipods, I would suggest lining up outside at 3 or 4 pm. But that really depends on how many Black Friday shoppers there are in your area. Last year, I arrived at Toys R Us late (a few minutes before 11 pm) because I didn't need any of the hot items, and there were at least 200 people already in line. According to a store employee, people started lining up around 5 pm. Like the others have posted, around 11 pm or so, an employee came down the line and asked if anyone wanted one of the hot items and handed out slips for those items to any of the customers who wanted them.
