Angelseyes28 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I've been thinking that with the sales starting at night instead of early morning the crowds are going to be 10x worse than they've EVER been!!!!! There will be tons of newbie shoppers. I'm thinking of attaching a cattle prod to the front of my shopping cart........figure the crowd would part like the Red Sea.....of course I'm sure managers wouldn't appreciate it though:o
IrishWife Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I agree! This is CRAZY stuff. I dont know how some are going to keep track. I used to go to bed at 5 and sleep til 2 then hit the store. (I live under 2 minutes from Menards and all of 5 from Walmart. This year, sleep is nonexistant.
yellowjeepster Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Can you imagine how crabby everyone is going to be by 5 am for the actual door busters? I see some major knock down drag outs happening and tempers flaring, lol.
B&H Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I have been a hardcore BF shopper for many years. For this reason, my family celebrates Thanksgiving on Saturday. We have appetizers starting at 11:00 and I serve lunch around 1:30. This way I have all day Thursday to rest for my shopping extravaganza. They never seem to mind because they know the better deals I get, the more things they will have on Christmas. Also, doing it this way, they still get to eat all the good food they look forward to every year. The kids are already talking about how much they love Thanksgiving food!
yellowjeepster Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 They never seem to mind because they know the better deals I get, the more things they will have on Christmas. I wish my DH felt this way. We are driving 4 hrs. Wed. afternoon to get to his relatives and then have to turn around Thurs. afternoon to drive 4 hrs. back home. Guess I'll try to sleep on the way home but that isn't going to help him. He said he won't go out for the midnight deals and I can't drag the kids out that long either. The mall and main stores are almost 30 miles from our home so that's a lot of miles for 2 vehicles as well. This is a screwed up yr. b/c of the time changes! I don't like it!!
zim05 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I don't know...I am a bit torn on how, I think, people with respond to the different starting times - especially Walmart and especially non-Forum shoppers. We here have the advantage of discussing plans and ideas with other BF shoppers whereas others don't have that kind of feedback. I wonder how many people will get the Walmart ad on Thanksgiving (or Wednesday) and be confused by the start times (or even miss the different start times in general) and will go out at the times they did last year. Instead of going out before midnight, people will just show up around 2am or so and just get the midnight sale items then. Of course it all depends on the areas but I'm not all that worried about getting to Walmart around 12:30 or 1am (after I drop my sister off at Target with the lawn chairs) and getting the different movies and Blu-Rays that I have my eye on. Perhaps my approach this year is a bit more relaxed since we don't seem to need many of the big doorbusters. The Sony Blu-Ray from Target would be nice and I guess if we roll into Best Buy around their opening times I would like to get the Flip Ultra, but if I don't...well I just don't. Since my older sister and I don't have kids yet and my parents have pretty much finished our younger siblings' bigger gifts, there is not that extra pressure.

My best friend and I sat down last night and tried to work out a game plan since it's obvious that we will be out all night long. We pretty much decided that we will get up around 3-4am Thanksgiving morning, then hopefully we will be sleepy enough to take a nap that afternoon before we head out that evening. Can you imagine how crabby everyone is going to be by 5 am for the actual door busters? I see some major knock down drag outs happening and tempers flaring, lol.I'm thinking the same thing! OOH Maybe we could get it on video and be a big hit on you tube! LOL I wonder how many people will get the Walmart ad on Thanksgiving (or Wednesday) and be confused by the start times (or even miss the different start times in general) and will go out at the times they did last year. I'll be out of their way LONG before 2am:p
kpmdjm Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I think toys r us will wall to wall people at 10pm. Way more than would have been there at the 12am opening last year! I am really scared to go but there is s bunch of stuff I want so I will be brave!
zim05 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I could only hope that that's what happens! I'll be out of their way LONG before 2am:pWith or without my stuff I will be freezing my rear-end off in line at Target by 2am
sweetdiggity Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 With or without my stuff I will be freezing my rear-end off in line at Target by 2am Me, too!! News this morning said we're getting an arctic blast next week, just in time for BF! Time to freeze!!But, I'm going hell or high water. LOL I'm mixed over all these insane start times. Part of me thinks it's gonna be NUTS, especially at Walmart. But, then again, people could stagger in at any time throughout the night at Wally and it might not be too insane. I just don't know. LOL Sleep is not happening this year!
doublehsmom Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I was just trying to figure out a game plan as well and I think that we are going to take 2 suvs this year since we filled 1 last year and we have 2 more people coming this year. I also think that its going to be better so we can split up however the stores opening at different times is going to help one way but stink in another! o well I shall see what all I come home with so far walmart has been my favorite add other than toys r us but we don't have one of them around here so it doesnt matter! As for sleep my dh said that he doesn't want to even see me friday at all and that I can't go get the kids till I take a nap..lol.. and we are celebrating my grandparents 55th wedding ann that night, and then we are leaving for the badger game sat morning at 8 and then Thanksgiving dinner on dh side on sunday! Should I take a vac day monday?..lol...

Marcster Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Absolutely! Vacation day it is. After that schedule, you will deserve a day off!! It'll be Cyber Monday too, so she could stay home and cash in on the (typically non-existent) Cyber Monday deals.
ourhappyfamily4 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I think with them having the midnite sale it's just going to make it worse. I think more people will be at walmart then ever...
jdragr Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I don't have a plan because of the different start times. I have always hit Wal-Mart 1st then headed to Target. But now, I have no idea. Maybe I'll just stay home and shop online.
redraccoon Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 We're having family over around 1... I figure we can eat, socialize, and have everyone gone by 5. Then time for a good nap! That is.. IF I decide to hit the Wally world sale. This year is kinda blah... I'm hoping for some better online offers!
rjncmj Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I think with them having the midnite sale it's just going to make it worse. I think more people will be at walmart then ever... I agree with this. I also think a lot more people will be at TRU too because of their 10pm opening. I think I need to be at TRU by 6pm. I hope to plant a friend or family member in line at WM sometime between 8-10pm. So as soon as I'm done at TRU I will go join them at the WM line. When I'm in line checking out at WM I will send someone over to Target. Then head over to target and wait. Ugh this is so awful. I really hope next years times go back to normal.
bigjimslade Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I have been doing media interviews for Brad and I have been asked about the hours and I tell them I hope this does not start a trend but I have a feeling it will.

She is a wee wife and needs some help.
Marcster Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I have been doing media interviews for Brad and I have been asked about the hours and I tell them I hope this does not start a trend but I have a feeling it will.As long as the customers show up a the new times, I have a feeling you are correct. If anything, the times will continue to trend earlier -- perhaps all of the stores will end up having Thursday sales too (like Kmart, etc.)
3 boys Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 With or without my stuff I will be freezing my rear-end off in line at Target by 2am Me too! Just wondering how I am going to carry a 40" TV
Scanner420 Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Can you imagine how crabby everyone is going to be by 5 am for the actual door busters? I see some major knock down drag outs happening and tempers flaring, lol. Unfortunately.........nock down drag outs happen every year over stuff!!! It's just stupid!!!!! I'm sorry....but NO one needs an item so bad, to warrant bodily harm on another!!!! JMO!!
mudd274 Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 I dont like the way Walmart is doing it!!!! I wish they would do the 5am items at 12. I have always been in line for the electronic items at 12am and waited there till 5 and always got what I wanted. Now with the toys and household items being sold at 12 the store will be filled with people at 10 on Thanksgiving day. Then those same people will be in line for the electronics after they get the deals on toys and household items. Do the toys at 5 and electronics at 12 Wally World.
