This is a chart that will compare both tv's and help you to determine which one you want to purchase.

The chart compares LCD with Plasma. Plasma is a totally different animal.

I'm no expert, but I am in the market for a mid sized LCD / LED TV and have done a little research and will be purchasing a 32" model in the next month or so. Right now, I'm leaning toward an LED.

An LED TV is basically an LCD TV with a different lighting system. Although their lifespans are publicized to be equivalent, the LED lights should last much longer and therefore, the TVs should as well. I've had salesmen tell me that the LED has slightly better picture quality, but to the naked untrained eye, it may not be noticeable. The LED is a little more expensive across the board, which may reflect the increased longevity and the improved picture quality. Hope I helped answer your question.

What I was told also. I was told plasmas have a better picture and longer life span , but used to have a bad rep for getting hot, I was told the new ones don't. Same salesman also told me led's are better than lcd, but more expensive, but to keep in mind it is cheaper to buy new when they break than to repair. Plasma's are also cheaper, he said I could get a bigger plasma cheaper than a smaller lcd. I am still leaning toward lcd. Also, lg and samsung are top of the line by far, I ended up buying two samsung's for our bedrooms and love them.
