I've bought a ton of stuff online as I was trying to find a dress for an upcoming wedding. So I bought two sizes of each style, etc.

I know the majority of the merchandise I will return, but I kept a few non dress items too. I got $100 in Kohls cash for my total order.

A friend told me to use the $100 Kohls cash before I return my original merchandise, which I can easily do. But how do they adjust for that then? Will they give me a store credit for the amount of original merchandise I plan on returning? Or will they reduce my original merchandise by the amount of kohls cash I've used?

(P.S. - I know if you return something you've bought with kohls cash they give you an in store credit or you loose the kohls cash amoun, but thats not my current scenario.)

Thanks for any input!

I say only use what you are actually going to earn AFTER the returns. Its just the "right" thing to do. I'd hate to see Kohls cash cancelled because of a trend of people buying things, using Kash and then returning original items. I don't have a store near me so I order online and zap my Kash email to my mom since she has a store if she cannot use them they go bad.

But since Kohls has a great customer service you could probally "get away" with spending the cash and then taking back the merchandise. I'd hope their system would set up flags or something but it probally doesn't or I wish maybe their system would catch it and only give you the refund minus any Kohls cash you have already redeemed maybe?!?. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I don't think they have anything like that set up. Each Kohls Kash does have its own code so maybe they can catch it and only offer you store credit. Maybe someone else has actually done it and can chime in.

If you just return it they may reduce your merchandise by the amount of Kohl's cash, I think if you ask for a store credit then they won't reduce your Kohl's cash. Unless they changed that recently.

It also depends on how much the dress was and how much Kohl's cash you got and what the promotion was; ie: if you got $10 Kohls cash for every $50 you spent, and you spent $120 so you got $20 Kohl's cash then if you return something that was under $20 then it wouldn't affect your Kohl's cash.

I don't have a store near me and I call the CS and they apply my kohl's cash back to my kohls card. The policy is that if a store isn't within a certain mileage from you, you are able to ask for the cash to be put back on your card

WOW Really that would be AWESOME! Thanks I will try that next time! The closest store I have is a little over 3hrs away so I am guessing I would definatly qualify!

I would think so, our closest is about 200 miles so 2 hrs or so, we are suppose to get one here but that is probably a year or so away

I didn't place such a large order just to get the kohls cash, so lets get down from that high horse on people "working the system" and "doing the right thing". I'm working on not loosing what kohls cash I will actually earn - which at the moment I can't ascertain because I'm not sure which dress/shoes I'm going with. But I'd like to spend my kohls cash now so as not to loose whatever I did legit earn. But I also don't want to overspend so that I can't pay my bill in 2 weeks.

Bottom line, I don't want a merchandise credit for the original merchandise I will eventually return because I know I'm not keeping $500 worth of items and don't want to pay that high of a bill. So will they reduce the amount of what I'm returning by the amount of kohls cash I did not actually earn (because I'm returning the merchandise). Does anyone know?

I like it up on my high horse. Maybe I misunderstood your FIRST post if so well then I misunderstood your first post. If you don't MIND losing the amount you spend on Kohls Kash at your return tell them when you return the items that you used XX in Kohls Kash. As someone pointed out it will show on the receipt. I'd say the best bet would be to call customer service so you don't end up with a $500 in store credit If you don't want in store credit or it to be deducted from your return value just don't use the KohlsKash.

Approximate exactly how many certificates you'll actually end up qualifiying for. Use what you will actually earn after the returns (or even a close guesstimate) and don't use the rest. Simple solution no confusion. If its a close guesstimate then it won't matter what the policy is. If you didn't buy the things to earn the Kohls Kash then its a nonvalid issue because there is no requirement to actually use them.

Kohls can scan your receipt and they know how much K-Cash you've earned and how much of it you have spent.

long story short, you spend the Kohls cash, when you return the item(s) you purchased and earned the Kohls cash with they will check to see if you used any of the Kohls cash you had earned. If you did, they will price adjust down the item and refund to your credit card. Or if you want the full price of the item, they will give you a merchandise credit.

Thank you for the clear answer! This helps me greatly. :-)

I don't have time to look through my invoices to calculate what I'm keeping at the moment to know how much kohls cash I'll end up earning. After next week maybe I will have time. Right now, my priorities are helping take care of my sick father who is still in the hospital recovering from open heart surgery and being prepared for my best friends wedding next weekend. In the interim I'd still like to maintain my financial responsibility and not spend too much money this month without pulling money out of savings, but I don't want to loose out on free money (kohls cash). Sorry if all of this doesn't fit with the high horse stance.

If you've spent the Kohl's Cash, they take the amount spent (over what you would have received) and reduce your refund. If you haven't spent it yet, they will reduce the amount of your Kohl's Cash certificate. They will give you a store credit for the merchandise returned and it won't affect the amount of your Kohl's Cash. When you return stuff, they can tell you if it will affect your Kohl's Cash and by how much before you finalize the return so you can decide what to do.
