OhYaImThatChick Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Anyone know of any good websites for cheap books
trbarginhunter Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I've bought textbooks at directtextbook.com for several years. It's best to use the ISBN to search, but titile and author will work.
peppysfireball Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I discovered www.abebooks.com several years ago. Bought all my son's books there. They search thousands of bookstores throughout the US and you can chose the best deal for you. I even bought old books there. My son wanted an Alice in Wonderland book from 1892 and I found it there for 15.00 from a seller.
tacoqueen4 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I rent most of my textbooks from chegg.com Great prices. If you go to campusbooks.com and enter the ISBN of the book you are looking for, they will do the research for you and give you the lowest prices of sites and also the highest prices for book buy backs.
lelee24 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Google the ISBN number on your book and it'll pull up the best prices. I order textbooks all the time for an alternative program in our school district. Most of the books will come up on Amazon's marketplace and I can pick the best price. Good Luck!
webiver Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Check eBay or half.com (a division of eBay) - I have picked up books for my nephew for the upcoming semester at great prices. I spent a great deal of time comparison shopping on Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble (all have used book for sale in their "marketplaces") as well as various textbook sites. I found the best deals on eBay.
cmosbo Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I have been buying books for 3 semesters of college and each time Amazon.com was the cheapest. Sometimes even new ones are a better deal then used, I always order at least a month ahead of time because the ones coming from sellers on Amazon are not always super speedy. Then when I am done with them I sell them on eBay.
bluesky225 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Amazon and half.com have been our cheapest options for text books.
davephillyj Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 My hubby can NEVER find his he needs on amazon or anywhere BUT the high textbook places. He is in grad school though, not sure if that makes a difference..,.
amyers12345 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I've used half.com a lot. One of my tips is to check with the professor and see if it's ok to use a previous edition of the book. Textbooks are a scam- they 'update' them every year or so by switching chapters 4 and 15 around (just an example). Many of my professors actually still used a previous edition because it had all of their notes, so they were able to tell me where the differences were. They were in it to help the students save. You can probably get a previous edition book for less than $5 shipped at half.com. I went from spending $400 a semester on texts to $20 by doing that- the only classes I couldn't do it for were math classes.
chr05angel Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 my husband does accelerated semesters so his classes are only 8 weeks long- this semester we tried Chegg.com to rent the book. great deal! got his 150 accounting book for 40 dollars for 8 weeks!
dealluvr Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I rent most of my textbooks from chegg.com Great prices. tacoqueen4 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 is it a pain in the butt sendig them back?No just keep the book they were sent in and return the book with the packing slip. When you rent the book you are given the date they need to be returned by...for example I rented my books on Jan 8th and they needed to be returned by May 28th. Plenty of time to wrap up the class and a few addtl procrastination weeks :) No additional charge for returning books.
newuser2009 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 The site that amazes me all the time is the search engine for books: www.fetchbook.info . Go and check it out how cool it is.
kselzer Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 www.half.com and amazon were where I bought and sold most of mine. Also if I was having a hard time finding a certain book I would just google the ISBN# or the title of the book.
newuser2009 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 As I already mentioned, the beauty of www.fetchbook.info is that it searches all sites and show you the prices of the item in different sites. Yes, most of the time I get best deals in amazon independent sellers, buy.com and half.com.
