kjunea Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 We have a fairly large family and we all get together on Christmas Eve in a progressive dinner, which ends at my mother's condo after dark and "Surprise" Santa has already arrived, stuffed stockings for everyone so we can open presents, etc. For many years now, we have passed around a couple of gag presents to each other so much we now look forward to who will get it and who will get it next year. I'm talking things like a Joey Fatone Bobblehead doll (MIB, in case there are any collectors out there...). Anyone else have strange traditions?
beccasbank Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 We have a fruitcake that's been passed around since 1991. I got it one year and had to give it to my FIL to hold because we moved like 2 or 3 times that year. Whoever gets it, puts a tag on it with the year and puts it in their freezer to give out next year. It's always fun to see who gets it. It's always wrapped different...big huge boxes, popcorn tins, etc.
AndreaInNC Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 when I put out my navitity set - I don't put out the baby Jesus until Christmas day. And the Wise men go in another room. Christmas morning I put out baby Jesus and the wise men start making their way to the nativity set - they move a little bit each day until January 6th when they finally visit baby Jesus. My mom started that one when I was young.

ohitsunshine Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I once gave my sister a paint it yourself really gaudy candle thing. Well the following year she gave it to my daughter. So my daughter painted it and gave it back to her the next year. Hopefully we do not see it back this Christmas but you never know!
missyjane Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 We have a chia pet that is still in the box and has been going around for atleast 20 years I would say. Every year people threaten to grow it but I don't think anyone ever will - I don't think it would grow anymore. lol

(We can't put ours out because Jesus, Wise Men, et all become cat toys.)
