  1. This is a family favorite that my grandmother made. She used the exact recipe as below, but somehow, hers always tasted better! Kentucky Pound Cake Cake: 1 1/4 cups Crisco oil 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour 2 tsp cinnamon sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1 small can crushed pineapple in heavy syrup 1 cup chopped pecans Combine sugar, flour, and cinnamon sugar. Add eggs and oil and stir until completely mixed. Add pineapple, nuts, and vanilla. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. (Check after 1 hour.) Icing: 1/2 stick butter 1 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup evaporated milk 1 tsp vanilla Bring first 3 ingredients to a slow boil. Boil 5-6 minutes; remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Stir until thick enough to spread.
  2. Hi. I'm so thankful for all the posts here; I've learned so much! We have a new small home, which equates to a small living room and also a smaller budget for Christmas! Our satellite system has a separate dish for HDTV in the living room. I'm thinking a 37" LCD 720p will suit our needs (we don't do video games or watch sports). When I mentioned my shopping plans to a co-worker, she told me to be sure I purchased a "widescreen" LCD. What difference does it make, if any? Thanks for your input!
  3. Re: Cricut... Don't know about Friday, but our M's currently has the machines for 199.99 and the cartridges for 49.99. Don't know if all the M's are doing this (I have read, however, that those prices are good through today only). Might be worth a call to check it out - would be a really great early Christmas present!!!
  4. Home: multi-lights, silver tinsel and all cat ornaments Office: white lights, red bows, and Coca-Cola ornaments
  5. Unfortunately, all of our cats are afflicted with the "curiosity gene." Let's just say that the tree wasn't as pretty on its side with the decorations missing! Plus one of our fur-kids is a chewer (found out the hard way one year when the tree lights wouldn't come on - no, she wasn't hurt; she had chewed the wires while it was unplugged). So, our tree has a place of honor--in the dining room--which has been cat-proofed!
  6. I don't know about HL or Joann's, but I remember that Michael's usually has special coupons that day (like "x" dollars off if you purchase a minimum amount at certain times of the day). Hope that makes sense!
  7. Hi, everyone. As you can tell from my number of posts, I'm more of a lurker than poster! Last year was my first BF with GottaDeal, and I'm excited to be back! Can't wait to see what's in store for us (and please forgive the pun!).
  8. At our house, Christmas goes to the cats! Our tree is filled with cat ornaments, and we always add the new releases each year; if our ceilings were high enough, a 12-foot tree would probably hold all of them! One year I got really ambitious and put up 5 trees: 3 cat themed, 1 artic theme with polar bears, penguins, and snowmen, and 1 with assorted miniatures (don't think I'll tackle that again any time soon!). And you can't have a cat tree without the motion-activated caroling cats in a gift box, the singing cat wreath, the stuffed cats with Santa hats, cat stockings and stocking holders, etc. Meow-y Christmas everyone!
  9. Another Wal-Mart run today! Got a 3-ft. tree, 4 stuffed Christmas animals, kitty stocking, several boxes of gutter clips, several boxes of lights and bulbs...all for less than $25! (My favorite is the tree: $2.49!).
  10. We went to the Wal-Mart in a nearby small town. I got a 7.5 foot tree (not pre-lit) for $39 and one of those inflatable snow globes for the yard for $54 (regularly $130!) Didn't need wrapping paper (we have enough to wrap Florida!), but we did find some cute gift tags, boxes, and a snowman wreath along with a few other Christmas-y items. Not a bad haul for getting up at 4:30 this morning!
  11. I found this site through another site and admittedly, I've check out the BF forum more than the other ones. And I agree; it is somewhat of a let-down now that BF is over, but now we can recuperate and look forward to next year's event! At least now I'll be able to devote time to checking out the other areas on this site. Just wanted to say "thanks" for all the hard work and great information. It helped me be a better-informed shopper. And it taught me that if I want anything at BB next year, I'll be in line before the sun goes down Thanksgiving day!
  12. Really wanted the emachine for Mom, but when I saw the line at BB, I said "forget it!" And to think that on Wednesday, the sales associate suggested getting in line around 4 a.m. Not that I didn't read all the posts about getting in line early, but around here, no one used to camp out all night before BF!
  13. No Wal-Mart or Best Buy ads in my paper! Of course, this may be a good thing; since this is the first year we've had a BB, perhaps there won't be too many people in line! BTW, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  14. It's always been a "mom and me" thing! This year we're adding my aunt and cousin-in-law to the mix. Tried to include my great aunt, too, but she thinks we're crazy!
  15. We use both bags and paper, but paper mostly. Each year we buy more at the clearance sales, and each year we say we aren't doing it this year (looks like we have enough paper on hand to wrap gifts for the entire state!). But it's hard to resist those clearance aisles!
