  1. Me, too. Don't really need anything, but I'll be out there - it's tradition :)
  2. I'd love to have a 3/8 ct.tw. Certified Diamond Band in 14K Gold from Kohl's. Total: $499.99 :)
  3. I think those items go fairly quickly. We got there on the 26th about 10:30 am, and snagged the last of the ziploc bags, containers and hand soap. Didn't see any garbage bags or dishwasher tabs. Went to two stores on the 27th and there was only tissues left.
  4. Were you at the South Anchorage store? I went to the Muldoon store the other day and it was looking pretty picked over. I figured they wouldn't go until tomorrow. I'll be there tomorrow morning bright and early :)
  5. Lowe's in Anchorage went 75% off on 12/24, and still isn't at 90%. The pickins are getting slim. Got the last two 18 foot pre-lit garlands for $6.98, so I'm happy. About 1/2 dozen trees and lots of lights left at the midtown store.
  6. Pretty stress-free day, as we are doing “Christmas Light” this year. Dropped DH off at work at 8:00 and headed to Walmart for the $4 Egyptian cotton bath towels. The store was not crowded at all – half of the cashiers were standing around waiting for people to check out. Picked up a bunch of towels and the $15 BD detail sander. Lots of the early bird stuff including TV’s on pallets left. Was told there was a good size line when they opened. Next stop was Walgreens and picked up most of the free AR stuff and some other odds and ends. Ended up with $14.50 in coupons for the next visit. Decided to run by Target to pick up gift cards around 10:00, and it was very quiet. Was told that it hadn’t been as busy as they thought it would be. All of the $4 appliances were gone, but they still had a lot of the early bird stuff available. Just got an email from Kohl’s about their Super Saturday tomorrow morning, which is nice since we were planning on going anyways. Hopefully we can get a couple more good deals. Very quiet today shopping. The stores here are more crowded on a normal Saturday than they were today. We did get 7 inches of snow, but I can’t imagine that holding anyone back.
  7. RCA 7" Dual-Screen Portable DVD Player-Target $88.00 Dyson DC17 Absolute Animal Vacuum-Target $349.00 Aero Indoor Garden-Ace Hardware $39.99 Werner Aluminum Portable Work Platform-Lowes $22.00 Total: $498.99 Thank you!
  8. Not a real "Christmasy" cookie, but they've been a tradition for several years. Almond Joy Cookie Bars 2 pgs. Oreos, finely ground 1 cup butter, melted 14 oz pkg sweetened flaked coconut 3/4 cup slivered almonds 12 oz pkg semisweet chocolate chips 2-14 oz cans sweetened condensed milk Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 13x9 baking pan with enough foil (use the Reynolds Release non-stick foil) to overhang sides by 1". Butter foil. Mix Oreo crumbs and butter. Mix 1 tablespoon coconut, 1 tablespoon almonds & 1 tablespoon chocolate chips; reserve. Press 1/2 crumb mixture into bottom of pan; sprinkle with 1/2 of remaining coconut, 1/2 of the remaining almonds and 1/2 of remaining chocolate chips. With hands, firmly pack mixture into pan. Pour 1 can milk over chips; level top. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Cover mixture with plastic wrap; with hands, firmly pack mixture. Remove wrap. Sprinkle crumb mixture with remaining coconut, almonds and chocolate chips; firmly pack. Pour remaining milk over top; level. Sprinkle with reserved coconut mixture. Bake 30 minutes or until mixture is bubbly. Fold foil over edges; bake 10-12 minutes or until golden. Cool on rack 30 minutes. Refrigerate until cooled completely and firm, about 4 hours or overnight. Invert the pan and peel off the foil (if they stick, toss the pan in a warm oven for a couple of minutes). Cut bars while cold.
  9. Interesting. I was wondering why there wasn't a copy in the paper when we picked it up at the store. When we had a subscription to ADN, the ad was always in it. We did get the Walmart ad in the mail...on Saturday. We were also missing the Target and Joann Fabrics ad in the purchased paper.
  10. Thanks so much for all your hard work!
  11. I got to our Walmart at 8:30 am, and it looked like a typical Saturday. Lots of stuff left and I didn't even have to wait in line.
  12. Thanks to gottadeal, we were pretty much finished shopping. But, of course I have to do Black Friday. There may be some killer deal I just can't miss out on. I was hoping to get a bunch of the digital picture frames for birthday gifts next year. Started at 8:00 am, and hit Joann Fabrics first. Got 3 big bags full of stuff for $38. It was all 80% off. Cute aprons for $3, and matching towels for $1. Next up was Gottschalks, which was the busiest store I went to all morning. Used their $10 off/$10 purchase on a professional knife sharpener (which was originally $70 and was already marked down to $30) and picked up an iron for $5. Walmart had lots of their doorbusters left. Snagged a bunch of the $2 DVD's. All of the digital picture frames were gone, but no big deal. Ran into Sportsmans Warehouse for a 12" cast iron kettle that was on sale for $24.99, and Petco for a few things for the dog children. Last stop was Fred Meyer. Did some grocery shopping and decided to see if they had any of the 7" digital picture frames. It was around 11:00, so I figured they were all gone. Timing is everything as they had just put out a new supply of them, so I scored 5 of them for gifts at $39.99 each. Picked up DH from work at noon, and we decided to go back and get one more digital picture frame. They were sold out at one store. We went to another and thought they were also sold out. DH saw a basket where the store employees had been cleaning up the shelves, and said "I wonder if there are any in here?" Sure enough, there was one at the bottom of the basket. He has a knack for finding the last couple of anything on sale. Too bad he hates shopping. Target just opened here last month. I was shocked when their Anchorage ad came out and the prices were $5-$10 higher on items I wanted than the national ad. Like any new national chain that comes to Alaska, they are going have to learn their lesson and be competitive on prices. Walmart prices were way cheaper. Anyhow, this was the least crowded I've ever seen it on Black Friday, and I've been doing this for years. Talking to people in line, most of them were wise to the fact that most of the deals being advertised were no better than they could have gotten during the year. Most of the stores were no busier than a normal Saturday, and I was in and out of them in about 20 minutes. I am happy that I was able to get all of my birthday shopping for next year done, too. Got some surprisingly good deals. Hope everyone else had a great day and got everything on their lists.
  13. Anchorage, AK here. Finally, Target and Kohl's open here in mid-October. Can't wait!
  14. Same here. They have had this for the past 3-4 years, and we always pickup 6 cases. The cases of logs are going this year for around $28 up here, I may get more. I always make them my last stop and they always have plenty.
  15. Create popcorn sculptures of your loved ones.
  16. I don't carry my purse...it's just one more thing to lug around. I carry my drivers license, credit card and a little cash in my pocket.
  17. Last year, we got the HP Photosmart (model M627). It's a 7 mp and we're happy with it. Pretty easy to use and takes nice photos. We just use it for everyday photos, on vacation, etc. Since we mostly e-mail pictures, it's been cheaper for us to just print photos we want at the store.
  18. I've been hooked for around 10 years. Every year when I get home and collapse in a heap, I swear I'm not going to do it again...but I do. :)
  19. Since it can be challenging to even get a cart or a basket, I bring several large shopping bags (with handles) with me. Since I'm not shopping for anything big, I just load up my bags and don't have to wait for a cart. I also don't bring my purse. I just put cash, cc and ID in my pocket. Happy shopping, everyone!
  20. Interesting that Lowe's requested their ad be removed from this site, yet no Lowe's ad in the paper and they don't have the ad on their website for Alaska. Geez!
