We always go to a friends neighborhood to trick or treat with her kids. We like going as a bigger group and if we went in our neighborhood, our kids would come home emptyhanded! We live on a private road and are the youngest couple by far...no other kids in our neighborhood. We went tonight and there were SO many kids out. All ages. Everyone we saw was dressed up. I agree..no costume..no treat:) We have no Halloween laws here...I guess it's too big (Jacksonville) although even though we go as a group, my husband and I still get nervous around the big groups of teenagers. We have a 3 and a 1 year old and we pulled them in a wagon. One pulls and the other walks behind so no one tries to sneak up and steal the boys' candy. What does everyone think about an ending time? My husband and I were talking about this tonight. We remember staying out until 9 or 10 when we got a little older, but by 8pm, most people had their lights out or put their candy on the front porch to be a free for all. By 8:45 it was like a ghost town except on the main roads in the neighborhood.

We cheat...we always order from the Pubix deli. We get the turkey, stuffing and 2 other sides. They will let you substitute if you don't like the given sides (which we always do) You still have to cook the turkey, but only for a few hours. You can check with your local grocery store to see if they have something like this. Like the pp's mentioned, we always do green bean casserole, mashed potato's, my mom's sweet potato casserole (no marshmellows) and for dessert, I try to make at least one or two new desserts each year. The Kraft food magazine is where I've gotten the last 2 years worth of ideas:yup: lol...All of that for me, DH, and mom and a very picky 3 yr old! We have TONS of leftovers!

If your going to send someone a used present in some cases I think it's ok, but it's better to check with that person before you send it. I.e. This year, we are on a very tight budget and I have pretty much told everyone I will be doing most of my shopping from Craigslist. I asked my good friend if it would be ok if I got something for her 3 year old daughter from Craigslist and she was totally fine with it. I got her daughter the talking Disney princess throne in practically brand new condition for $15...so I don't mind used gifts, but books that have been written in or half eaten candy is gross! I would be furious!

Our nieces are 10 and 8. They are both homeschooled by mom and dad is very particular about what his girls can get. They are very involved in church. Clothes will be hard to buy because the shirts have to come up to the collarbone and skirts/pants have to be knee length or longer. Also, the 10 year old is starting to "bud" and is very self conscious about it so she only wears thicks shirts/sweaters. So, any clothing ideas or stores will be helpful. :) The 10 year old also loves to read. I want to find a Christian pre-teen book series. Can anyone recommend a good one. Neither one of them is into toys anymore. I'm thinking I can get away with a purse filled with Bonne bell lip gloss and some light perfume for the 8 year old because she is VERY girly and loves shoes, purses, nail polish etc. lol...we are also on a very tight budget (as is everyone this year) since I'm a sahm. Any help/ideas are appreciated!
