    Are you spending less this year?

    I bought a house this year for the first time so I'm still "filling in the blanks" for various house needs. That said, gift budget will be same/maybe slightly smaller, depending on what all other stuff I end up buying for the house. Honestly, I often spend the most on my SS gift for the exchange here on the forums (yes, we have a minimum but darned if I don't blow right by that most of the time LOL). (Shameless plug: If you haven't yet joined in the fun, try it out this year! Always such a good time seeing what everyone gets!)

     

    I am watching for sales/deals on various things I have my eye on, though.

    Thanksgiving Plans

    With Dad and I being the only "local" family, he typically refuses to let me cook (though I'd love to - and yes, I've told him this), so we usually go to some restaurant or another for TG. Maybe since I'm in my house now I can convince him to let me finally cook a small TG dinner for us in my "new to me" house/kitchen.

    I kinda fell off the grid here since I moved into my house (though those of you on our Discord have seen me around). So, while I'm missing out on the prizes this year, I figured I'd pop in and say "hello again, friends!"

     

    I am excitedly gearing up to welcome trick-or-treaters to my house, having bought some fun fall decor and a cute Halloween kitty inflatable for my yard. Garden gave me some awesome lettuce in early summer, got about a dozen cucumbers before fungus ravaged my vines (sad face), lots of dill, still getting good parsley, about to harvest my celery and finally my brussel sprouts. Learned some things that will help me grow better/more next year. 

     

    Lots going on but counting down to BF as always. My list is a bit different this year now with my house (ah the joys of home ownership) but that just means I am learning about new things and the costs that go along with them.

    How the heck is it May already??? Counting down the days till I head off to Charlotte and starting to stress about finding a kitty sitter for while I’m gone. I’m really uncomfortable with the idea of someone I don’t know well having access to my home while I’m gone but haven’t been able to find a friend (or two) that can help with both mornings & evenings. Oof. Wish me luck!

    Happy February, GD fam! I’m starting the month as a new homeowner! Closed on my house on the 27th and have already been over there to change the locks. I won’t completely move in until after my trip to Vegas early next month but it’s exciting to get things over there. [emoji16][emoji106][emoji537]

    Tonight has been sobering. First the news about the Bills player that collapsed on the field, then followed by the news of motorsports legend Ken Block having lost his life in a snowmobile accident earlier today. A potent reminder that life is so very precious…

    Christmas/Holiday Plans

    Christmas Eve - Work - small special seafood dinner for Hubby and me.

     

    Christmas Day - Work - Prime rib dinner for Hubby, myself and mom with Alzheimer's which we will take to her with her gifts (which she won't remember) - this disease has taken everything from me. :(

     

    New Year's Eve and Day - rinse and repeat.

     

    The saddest holiday I have ever had. :(

    So very sorry, friend… [emoji22] Your mom may not remember this but she will feel the love and, someday, you will look back on this time with the knowledge you loved her well in the midst of the most difficult times. Praying for all of you.

    Every Secret Santa gift has been received! Thank you all SO much for the notifications.

     

    We had 2 ornament exchange packages walk away from their recipient after delivery, but those have been made right and replacements should be delivered today or tomorrow. All in all, it's been a successful Secret Santa year thanks to all of you.

    House hunt in full swing - I think I have 7-8 houses I’m planning/hoping to see with my agent Saturday morning plus another open house or two once she needs to go to handle other obligations. Hoping the winner is somewhere in this bunch! Fingers crossed!

     

    Baking for gifts about to ramp up as well. First shipments go out by Tuesday! Time’s flying!!!
