  11. I have a Kindle 1st Gen. with 2166 books. =} I got it for my anniversary two years ago, right before the second generation came out. I absolutely love it, but the battery is finally wearing out. I am going to get the Touch 3G for my anniversary this year, and I'm happy to say I've paid for less than 60 of my books. I subscribe to two daily newsletters that alert you to free books and deals and to booklending.com where you can share and borrow books on kindle. The Kindle is hands down the best gift I ever asked for and received and the best one I've ever given too =}
  12. I think I would dress up as an Eskimo that way I'd be plenty warm while I waited outside in Northern New York for the stores to open! It's usually either snowing or sleeting up here and the lines are always long.
  13. Thanks for the great link! Got all my gifts to ship in time for my family Christmas Party! They should all be a great hit!

  15. My family thinks I'm crazy, but it has very little to do with BF... :) Beyond the fact that I start plotting my BF week while on vacation the last week of August every year. I start mumbling about "When are they going to start posting ads?" shortly after Labor Day. I've already purchased 90% of my stocking stuffers by Halloween... Yeah they think I'm crazy.
  16. I don't know about the Nook, but I've dropped my Kindle several times and it's survived all the falls. I am very careful with it and keep it in it's leather cover, and none of the falls was very bad. I keep the battery fully charged and followed all the instructions for charging it to maximize it's life. I have never had either one fail in over a year of use each. I've never had to replace a battery either. You can also get car charger attachments from igo and various other companies. I don't have the extended warranty, but I'm very careful, and I never EVER leave my Kindle in extreme cold or heat, as these affect the screen and the battery. I'd recommend the extended warranty if you have small children or are clumsy, but I use mine daily and carry it in my work bag everywhere I go and it holds up great.
  17. I am a current Kindle owner, and I have owned one since the very beginning. I bought one when they debuted, I had a second generation one, and now I'm looking to upgrade. I have to say that I'm probably going to go with the Nook this time around. I'm VERY disappointed with Amazon, more than my Kindle. The great difference between the Nook and the Kindle isn't so much in the features, or the price but in what you can get and do with the devices. Amazon only allows you to purchase books from Amazon. You can get free books up the wazoo from them, I have over 600 free books that I've accumulated in the last year alone from Amazon. But unless you open an account with a friend or family member you cannot share books unless you repeatedly add and remove your Kindle to other people's accounts and add their books, then add and remove the Kindle to your own account and vice versa to share your books with friends and family members. Now Barnes and Noble are so much more easy going about these things. You are able to "loan" a book to a friend for up to 30 days and vice versa. Any book you purchase from what I've read. You can also borrow books from online libraries such as the New York Public Libarary. I am a member of the NYPL and my local library system is also about to go live with an ebook lending system. One that I will be unable to utilize with my Kindle, even if I upgrade to the Kindle 3. How much nicer would it be if you could just pop onto a website and download the latest releases and read them for free instead of paying $9.99 or more? Not that I mind paying for a book that I'd like to read over and over, but sometimes there are books I'd like to read and maybe not read again, or check out a new author that I'm not so sure about. I'd much rather borrow those titles from an e-lender than spend $9.99 @ Amazon. This is the main reason I'll be switching to the Nook, as much as I adore my Kindle. I'm usually very brand loyal, especially when it comes to my electronic gizmos, but this is one instance when I'm "undigging in my heels" and running for the hills. I have repeatedly contacted Amazon to ask if the loaning features and the library borrowing features will EVER be available on future Kindles and my emails have been ignored each and every time. What kind of customer service is that? They didn't even have the decency to send me a standard email telling me blah blah blah... Shame on Kindle. My advice is go with the Nook if you want more bang for your buck. If you aren't into loaning, or looking to borrow from lending libraries then the Kindle may be exactly what you are looking for. I do love mine, I just want more for my next investment.
  18. I'm a third of the way there gift wise, but I have most of my stocking stuffers done. Considering I buy for 18+ people that's no mean feat! I have a huge Christmas party here at my home the Sunday before Christmas and that's when I give out all my gifts to my family. So I start Christmas shopping for the following year immediately after that party! Seriously, I was shopping for Christmas '10 before Christmas '09 was over. I shop solely sales and with coupons and rebates for the holidays so I have to make very dollar and day count!
  19. Saving money and having crazy fun while meeting great people!
  20. I have a Kindle, go with the Nook. I know I sound disloyal, but you can borrow books from libraries and from friends with the Nook, you can't do that with the Kindle. You can't borrow any materials from any libraries with the Kindle, whereas with the Nook you can, plus you can still get free books off the internet also. The Nook is the better bargain, especially for younger people who might like to share books with friends. I'm upgrading my Kindle soon and I'm switching to the Nook. Just thought I'd share that with a fellow bargain hunter.
  21. 16 years and counting! I know this because it wasn't until we got our Walmart that we actually had BF sales. We had always had a Kmart, but never a BF sale. Strange eh? I went alone and brought a huge thermos of coffee, I sold out quickly. :) People just kept coming up offeringme a dollar for a cup of my coffee. I think I made 5 bucks. I should have brought a drum of it the next year!
  22. I take the Wednesday before Turkey Day off and do all my baking and prep work. I get all my cleaning and decorating done, and the table set. On Thanksgiving I get up early, get the bird in and the potatoes boiling. I go to morning mass and have the family (all 18 of them) over for a noonish meal. Then we quickly clean up and head to the Kmart about an hour away. The whole day the radio is on because this is the kick off day for the Christmas Carol stations across the area! YaY! That evening I stay home and lay out my battle plan. By then I know if I'm staying in town or driving to the mall or the AAFES an hour away. I usually leave around 2 if I'm going to the mall or AAFES and I go to Walmart at 12 since they implemented the whole line up thing. Since my son has grown up I don't find that I have to shop so much on BF. I don't think high end electronics really say I love you at Christmas, but that just my opinion, and lately that's the trend of BF sales. I do still go with family and friends and help them get what they need. Christmas is really about the kids for my family, so I like to make sure they get what they want. Whether I'm helping my sisters get it for my nieces and nephews or just getting out there with some friends while they grab a few things for their kids. BF warms the cockles of my heart and really is the start of the season for me. :)
