  1. It probably won't be known until Thanksgiving day. The stores themselves get the ads in the paper - just like everyone else. (In the store, they just post the pages from the paper) It might be possible to get leaks from one of the newspapers, or leaks of the item descriptions (without prices) for employees dealing with the arriving inventory. However, we'll probably just have to wait until the ads are actually published.

    Projector Thread

Before buying any of these, please make sure you are not affected by the rainbow effect. If you are, your viewing experience will be greatly reduced. Consumer level DLP projectors have a spinning color wheel with a single DLP chip. This is much cheaper than including three seperate DLP chips. So, if you can, take your whole family to somewhere that sells DLP projectors and watch it for about 10 minutes. If anyone in your family sees flashes of color, do not get a DLP projector. (the faster "4x" color wheels are such that a lesser percentage of the population sees the rainbow effect, so even if you can see the rainbow effect on 2x color wheels, you may not be able to see it on a 4x color wheel DLP.)
  3. For anyone thinking about getting a 4 megapixel A520... you may want to consider tha A610. It not only has 5 megapixel resolution, but it has a larger CCD image sensor. This will result in significantly less noise in low-light conditions. In fact, it's the largest CCD on a 5MP point-and-shoot digital camera. (0.55", FYI. The A520 is 0.4", the same as the earlier models) It's well worth the step up in my opinion. The A620 is the exact same as the A610 except it has a higher-resolution CCD for $100 more. The A610 might actually give you less noisy images than the A620, because of its larger pixel size - but I have been unable to compare these as of yet myself.
  4. Canon doesn't have great deals because they don't need to. They're the best. They have the best image quality for the price. I'd recommend the Canon a610 or a620, because it has an extra large image sensor (=less noise), a 4x zoom, and the best image processing on the market. In addition, these cameras have full manual control, so if you want to take a hard-to-get shot in low light conditions, you can do so. (The canon "A" series are the only compact point-and-shoot cameras to have manual control) The only two reasons why you would not want to get a canon: 1) The time between shots is slightly more than other brands... but the new a5xx/a6xx series is much better than the old a7x/a8x/a9x series. 2) Since it has more features, the "ease of use" takes a bit of a hit. (because there are so many options) If you are getting this for someone who is afraid of a multifunction remote control, this probably isn't the right camera.
  5. Dells now include a utility that lets you burn a recovery cd. It only lets you do so once, so if it is a bad CD or the CD fails you are out of luck. This recovery cd will wipe your hard drive and reimage the factory windoze install.
  6. Just remember if you purchase a bunch of high-markup assessories for your $150 computer, it's no longer a $150 computer. Anti-virus software can be had free after rebate (officemax this year), ram can be found cheapest at places like newegg.com (There aren't any real good BF ram deals this year), you can get great deals on "open-box" brand new laptop cases online, and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (an absolute must) can be found deeply discounted at retailers like CompUSA, Microcenter, and Fry's if you go at the right time. Picking up assessories at regular retail can quickly kill a great deal on the computer.
  7. markraby: I wish your forecast was correct. The National Weather Service says the low in Columbus, OH Thursday night will be 21°. (High Friday is 31°) Hopefully your source is right and the NWS is wrong...
  8. Before buying a single-chip DLP projector, make sure the rainbow effect doesn't affect you. If it does, the picture will be almost unwatchable. (3-chip DLP's are very expensive, and are used in digital movie theaters. They don't have a rainbow effect because they don't have a spinning color wheel)
  9. Less than an hour remaining... this thread needs a bump.
  10. From the ad: eMachines Celeron M Desktop w/ 17" Monitor - $149.99 That computer definately wouldn't exist. Only a very few number of special motherboards have adapters to allow an Intel mobile processor to be used in a desktop chipset. I highly doubt emachines would use one. Also, this price seems very low for including a 17" monitor.
  11. These sales aren't even as good as the prices during their summer "Midnight Madness" sales. (during which they had a HP Compaq desktop for <$100 with NO AOL signup) There are no real door busters here. I'm thinking that there will be extra door busters in the final ads put in the paper - possibly differing by local area. Unless they add some doorbusters, they simply won't get people in the door.
  12. Gumball: Wait until the chat begins at 9:30. Then, there will be people there.
  13. Don't forget to show up tonight! Last week's chat only had 15 people.

    comp usa ad

You should post that here, along with uploading scans of the ads, if any: http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/Submit You will be rewarded for giving gottadeal an exclusive. somehow. Also, do you have any details on the hours of each item? Since it is a 24-hr sale, I'm assuming different items will be at different times.
  15. It seems you do a lot of giveaways and such... with no advertising. (besides the forum autolinking to retail stores...) How do you do it? For $100... it would have to be a cheap AMD processor. (FYI: if I win the t-shirt, I will give it to someone at random who shows up **on-time** to next week's black friday chat. Surely it can be better than 15 people...)

    We're on CNN.com!

Perhaps you should link to the adscans from the homepage rather than have so many people try (and fail) to register for the message boards at once. For a new visitor, these adscans would be quite difficult to find, as it requires navigating message board posts.
  17. If they did this, it would likely be similar to their "midnight madness" sales, with different sales starting every couple hours or so. So, if you want item X, you might need to be there at 7am... but if you want item Y, you may need to be there at 12am.
  18. If you want to give a gift card, your best bet is the discover gift card as there is no fee. (Amex and mastercard charge hefty fees for their gift cards) They even ship the card free. Find out more here: www2.discovercard.com/shopcenter/giftcard.shtml (no link as the forum isn't letting me include one...)
