I normally put up everything up the weekend after Thanksgiving. I might do it earlier this year. We bought a new home last year with really high ceilings. I,of course had(okay so had is a really strong word..LOL!) to order a new tree. We found a great deal on one from Balsam hill and it is BEAUTIFUL. I want to enjoy it a little longer. We shall see! :sidesplit

One at a time. The kids first, Our parents, then us. It might not be in that order all the time except for the kids. The kids ALWAYS go first lol.
This is how it is in our house. We open gifts and have dinner on Christmas Eve. Christmas day is a lazy day at our house. LOL!

so sorry to hear that and I am truly thankful for his service. I love toys for tots and we always support them.
Thank you. He was an amazing man that was taken from us way before his time.
We are also doing gift shoeboxes to be sent to others with our church. Need to finish them up and get them there this Sunday.
Very sorry to hear about your loss and am very thankful for his service.
Thank you so very much!

I have done it in the past!

Our son passed away in March. He was an active duty Marine. We just did a memorial poker run last weekend and raised over $1,800.00 and a TON of toys for Toys for Tots. We plan to do it every year. We are having our 16 yr old son go and help toys for tots after Thanksgiving. We think it will be good for him to see not everyone is as lucky as him especially during the holidays.

I also got the Martha Stewart one year and really like it. I haven't set it up in a few years. I am on a real tree kick here lately.

In years past it was our parents, until they all said they would rather have visa gift cards..score! LOL!
Now it is my husband. He normally just buys what he wants through out the year. All the things he likes are extremely expensive. Last year I managed to buy him a new gun that he had wanted. I bought it for him before he could! LOL! This year we are not going to exchange gifts. Our son is currently deployed and will be back on USA soil some point after the holidays. We will be spending a ton of money going to his deployment homecoming. That first hug after sooooooooooooo long will be worth no Christmas presents under the tree for myself or my husband!!

We normally get a tree and put it up Thanksgiving weekend.

I have been listening already!

Sounds like ds who is 11! Must be the age. I will be watching this thread for some ideas!!

I go overboard. We don't buy much in the way of toys or gadgets for the kids throughout the year, so Christmas is our one good excuse for spoiling our girls.
This but replace with boys.

I am hoping to spend less..we shall see.

My kids are going to start working on their lists tonight. Today is our "summer Christmas" (a tradition I started years ago, but I'm a bit late doing it this year). The kids went and saw Arthur Christmas in the theater this morning ($1 summer movies where they replay movies from the last couple years), and tonight we will be making christmas ornaments while eating christmas cookies, and then I'll have the kids write up some lists.
What a neat idea!!
I have a mental list going. My boys have already started their lists.

Since he is into fitness what about protein bars, crystal light drink packets that you add to a bottle of water, resuable water bottle, lottery scratch off tickets, airfreshner for his car, razor, shaving gel, slipper socks.
for your nephew: find out what his favorite snacks/candy/gum are and put some in his stocking, gift cards, roll of quaters for the laundry mat, reusable coffee mug, reusable water bottle, card games, pens, slipper socks.
Great ideas!!

Been that way for a couple of years now...
Here too. If we still lived up north I would be buying toys for my nieces and nephews but living so far away I just send gc's.
When do you plan to start decorating for the holidays this year?
