  1. And as someone who works in retail, I can tell you that plenty of my coworkers who are getting paid a little more than minimum wage have an "I don't care" attitude because of their wages. Where I work, we get two evaluations per year. On my last evaluation, my raise was poor because my manager will not give out more than 25 cents due to the economy. So that means that even as a really good worker, I can't expect more than 25 cents. Compare that to my previous evaluations where I got at least double that everytime. You better believe that after that evaluation, I stopped working harder than most of my coworkers. If I'm getting paid the same amount as my coworkers who are too lazy to lift a finger, there's not going be anymore of this above average work that I used to do. Sorry. And this includes how I deal with customers. Don't get me wrong, I'm friendly with everyone. I just don't do more for the customers like I used to.

I used to work at Target. My managers treated me and my coworkers horribly. A lot of us quit. Others did a crappy job when it came to their work. If the managers don't take care of their employees, a lot of the employees are going to care less about the quality of work they do.

It seemed what you are describing is displeasure with your work experience and one is able to substantiate the displeasure by noting how little raises may be.

If one is treated well, money is lower on the totem pole. By paying them more, if still treated poorly, one will still, inevitably, do a lower quality job.

  2. no rugs to speak of...two runners in the kitchen is about it.

We're looking for something that will last longer than a dirt devil...we have one now, and it's on its last legs...

I'm actually leaning towards a canister vac now...

I worry about anything heavy that will carry around those tiny, sand like pebbles on the wheels of some of the heavier vacs and thus will scratch the floor. I have noticed that with my heavier one which is why I swiffer then do the vacuum thing.

Anyway, sorry wasn't more help...I prefer the cheaper ones for such a job....and a dry swiffer.

  3. Do you have rugs?

For our hardwood, we use a simple bagless Dirt Devil type vac. I pick one up about once a year or so for around $40. We do have rugs and for those, I have a bag vac, Hoover I think, that ran about $150 and was rated above Dyson.

I know peeps love their Dyson, but I think they are overrated and hear just as much crap about them.

I swiffer (dry) for the dust and into the corners then run the dirt devil to pick up the bigger stuff. Has worked for me for years.

  4. I got a flyer in the mail for 1800contacts.com has anyone ordered from them before? Are they reliable? I haven't priced them out yet, but a good price from someplace unreliable is not a good price, so I'd like to know about others experiences.

I have ordered from them but they are more expensive.

I ordered and got great service from the one I listed above. They were cheaper and I was very happy with the service and how they handled the sale. I will order from discount contact lenses again.

    http://www.discountcontactlenses.com/

I also used a coupon code from the blog I listed above. They honored it and sent me another one to use on my next order. Fast, good price and good product.

1800 contacts was fast and a good product also. They just cost more.

  5. thanks I guess I'll hold off on changing till I talk to him my lenses are the Oasys that are supposed to need rewetting less often but they still seem dry to me... maybe because I'm not used to them yet. Dr. also said I could sleep in them if I wanted but every morning ( I've tried 3 times ) they are in the top of my eye and folded in half so I have to take them out anyway and fix them might as well just do it at night.

We mentioned to the fitting clinician at our clinic about the dryness factor and she suggested we try a different solution. My dd has been happier with the new solution. But I wouldn't switch until I talked to them because I could switch to one that did the opposite of what we needed.

  6. the solution doesn't make a difference? my doctor told me not to change solutions without asking him first.. is that maybe because of the type of lenses or is he just crazy? lol

As long as you get a similar solution you shouldn't have an issue. However, some solutions have different cleaning guidelines. We always speak to our dr first...no sense in having to go back because of eye issues. We have a few that we use and my kids actually have preferences (they notice less dryness etc with their preferred brand.)

  7. I used this blog:

    http://www.lenspundit.com/

I was able to compare, find a $5 off code to cover the shipping and get the cheapest for the lenses we needed.

I ended up ordering from Discount Contact lenses. Shipping took about a week. Got an email notification after a few days that the shipper had screwed up the first leg so they were shipping them at their own cost at a quicker rate.

Was very happy with the service and will check the prices again in 6 mos when I need more. BTW, I am pretty sure all the rebates were on the sites I looked at. We just didn't want to buy more than 6 mos at a time.

  8. Hit two Targets yesterday and got a few thing like the bliss chocolate that was free with overage and the basket I wanted for next year for DS that was the only one left. Most of the stuff I want I thought I would wait until 75% off since they aren't "need to have" things. Both stores were fairly well stocked, stopped today to pick something up expecting things to be decimated but wasn't much of a difference except the candy from when I was there at 8am yesterday. The one store typically goes 75% on day 3 so I will head over tomorrow to see if I can pick up the rest on my want list.

Someone was asking if anyone thought things were boxed up and shipped back to the manufacture, do they actually do that?? I have never heard of a supplier taking back stuff that didn't sell, especially items that are holiday. I'm not in this business but it doesn't seem like a good deal for a manufacturer

Yes, a lot of seasonal companies do this. I haven't heard of it happening with Target but many stores, like grocery stores, purchase seasonal items from companies that will take back what doesn't sell.

  9. and HOLY COW!!!! have you ordered there before???? If they're any good I may just grab a couple extra pairs for me in case the little ones get ahold of my others!!!!

Have ordered from Zenni and have been happy. However, occasionally, they have shipping issues. I follow the ups and downs on this blog forum (which is also listed in this other gottadeal thread): http://groups.google.com/group/glassyeyes?hl=en

The amount of info shared at that forum is amazing for glasses and contacts.

  10. I always buy the clearanced ones at Target at the end of the Back to School season. I have found Jansport ones, originally $50 for 75% off.

What I found tho is that you need to look at how they are rated. Most will tell you the exact size and how many lbs they will carry. This will help you find one that is durable enough to handle the paces your son is putting them through.

My kids have great luck with jansport. Here is a link to one: http://www.target.com/Trans-JanSport-Incline-Backpack-Black/dp/B0014HCAJM/sr=1-12/qid=1236774658/ref=sr_1_12/192-9231698-5094921?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=0&pricerange=&rh=k%3Abackpack%20brands&page=2

Here is another link of sale jansport: http://www.rockymountaintrail.com/outdoor/jansport/backpacks/book-bags/

Not sure how much you want to spend.

  11. You say that as if their inventory wasn't already horribly screwed up! Which it is, or we wouldn't have so much trouble finding those items that are supposed to be in inventory when we call and ask. You are also assuming they salvage it at full retail. If they purchased the item in the same calendar year as it is going for donation, they can't take a tax write-off. If they are getting a credit for it, the manufacturer is simply going to rely on the numbers they provide, and it will not show up when the sell it 999999999 as they almost always do for INF items (which also means it has no impact whatever on their inventory system). Same is true if they wrote it off as "loss." If they are salvaging it to a salvage company, they are getting pennies on the dollar anyway, and unless it is a higher value item (like electronics), they are going to get the same sort of price as they would simply selling it 75%-90% off to the consumer. And they build goodwill with the consumer to boot. So, I stand by the point that it is silly not to sell it to the consumer.

This is getting horribly off topic...however, I am trying to explain why some stores will NOT sell things that are not in the system.

Just because the inventory system may be horribly screwed up does not mean that Target, as a whole, does not want to get it fixed. It is silly to perpetuate the mistakes which is what some stores do by randomly selling the INF items. And because you were kind enough to remind us that new items sometimes also ring up INF further explains that it is important for Target to NOT sell items randomly at guest/cashier prices. If an item comes in as a new item and is screwed up, thus showing up INF, it will screw up their inventory system if sold at a random price.

It is wonderful to explain that you may ask, I am certainly not saying do not ask... It is important to remember that ONE MAY NOT GET A RANDOM PRICE....it is YMMV. Getting mad is silly because as a corporation, Target cannot make everyone happy by giving away random products at random prices. That practice would make Target, as we know it, go away even faster than we fear the great deals already seem to be disappearing.

And YES, rudeness is never acceptable. NOT getting a random price when you ask, may not be rude, it may really be an employee attempting to do their job properly. As long as they were as polite as they possibly could be....RUDENESS is not acceptable EVER.

  12. Pretty stupid, especially in this economy. All that said, it is a store by store thing.

Since they salvage the item at the full retail price, or in some cases, get a higher credit(than the discount) for it from their seller, it would be stupid to sell the item for a 75% or even a 90% off price.

Also, if they have already salvaged all pieces (depending on how they do it, they may take the number that is in their system which would account for lost/hidden items), it would screw up their inventory numbers to sell something that is salvaged.

  13. Please if someone can verify that policy, I would appreciate it. It's very annoying when I find INS hoping they would sell it to me, but end up going home empty handed.:no::no::no:

The policy is that if it isn't in their system, they generally do not sell it. It screws up their inventory procedures if they sell things that are not in their inventory system. You may find an employee or even a manager that gives and allows something to be sold....but it is definitely YMMV.

  14. I would never go with laminate. It is just a picture glued on the floor and will wear off. Also it gives when you walk. I was in a house with laminate flooring and kept thinking i would fall through when i walked. It also is complicated to lay.

Wood laminate flooring varies in quality. Most is very easy to lay as it "floats" and locks together. The laminate quality and warranty are things to consider if one is in the market for laminate.

Use to hear a lot of commercials for lumber liquidators...not sure how their prices line up but another to consider.

  15. One question - do they ever drop the prices of the GB clearance items below 75% before they go salvage?

By the way - I did see several January salvaged Target items at our local Goodwill - already on the shelves. So if you missed something - perhaps a trip to the Goodwill will help.

They did drop Global bazaar to 90% IF any was left. However now that they are doing this Home Design markdown a bit different, I am not sure if they will or not. Considering how little stores have, they may not.

And as far as finding salvaged items at Goodwill....I, too, have found things there. However, the price was better at Target marked down than Goodwill. Last year GB went to Goodwill after salvaging and I went to look. Things I liked were marked at approximately 30% off regular Target price. I could have easily gotten things for at least 75% off at Target. There was no way I was going to pay more for it at Goodwill.

Just watch the prices at Goodwill.

  16. It really was quite simple, and upon re-reading the letter, the company did not lie. However, the wording of the letter was a bit vague and that is where I missed the intent.

The deal is, you can purchase a furnace for around 950 but you must purchase the AC unit for x amount of dollars. Our final estimate was a bit less than $5000 which is the figure we were quoted last year from our regular furnace guy.

My problem with the entire situation is that at no time did they say any basics and it was hard to get any straight talk out of the "salesman". My dh and I both asked several times for the basics and he wanted to show us the warranty, the add-ons and explain everything. Even when he left the estimate, it had no model number, no btu, no seer, just a price. (He had, in his sales pitch, told us the btu he advised, which was a bit bigger than the one we had but not crazy big, and he also told us and explained the seer number and how the federal guidelines are changing in 2010.) I believe that if we would have gone with the company, we would have gotten a brand new furnace and ac but it wasn't a "deal". In my opinion, the letter was worded to get a foot in the door.

I do want to emphasize that I believe from my research and from what they told me that I would have gotten a very nice furnace and ac unit. However, it would not have been a deal that I could not turn down. The salesman actually even did the old, "let me call my boss to make sure we have one of your units in stock" spiel. And yes, the spiel even went so far as for him to tell us that they have a few of the ac units but, yes, you guessed it, ONLY 1 FURNACE UNIT left. Oh and you guess it, they could install it TOMORROW! At this point in the sales pitch, I was laughing inside.

And I want to add that the salesman was incredibly professional and polite. I believe he was following a sort of "script" but that isn't necessarily bad.

My only complaint is that the letter was written in such a way that it could and was misconstrued. Considering I am always one to find the double speak in words, I was a bit mad at myself to have missed it. And considering that I asked so many questions of so many people, I was a bit disappointed that they never spoke straight. (but hey, that is the way to sell things.)

The funny part was that after the 2 hours of measuring, explaining and the sales pitch, he left the estimate with his card and said "So do you believe it isn't a scam now?"

Unfortunately I was not able to answer because although I do not believe it to be a scam, it wasn't the plain speak we were hoping to hear.

Now that we have an estimate, we are setting up a time to speak with our heating and cooling guy and will see what they say. And yes we have the btu and seer number so we can see if the "other guy" measured well and gave us a good estimate.

I appreciate all the feedback. My dh is very glad that we got the ball rolling on a new unit even if we weren't totally pleased with the first company. We now have numbers and some experience to make a more informed decision and it only cost us some time.
