  1. i dont know how u feel about this, but i would get a 16 yr old boy the national treasure dvd and a ticket to see national treasure 2 when it comes out on during the holidays. my co-worker told me she was doing that for her son and i thought it was such a cute idea actually.
  2. i just go to ross. if i'm going to be cheap, at least i'll have a semi selection.

i also go to department stores on the weekends (but later in the evening to avoid the crowds.) macys will have their 40% off but tack on an extra 25% off on weekends. this was my tactic to buy a lot of clothes for work.

i like some of the isaac mizrahi stuff, and i was really excited when they had proenza schouler there, but the material just didn't feel nice or comfortable, and it's probably because they had to cut back somewhere to sell at the target price. i do, however, like the mossimo selection they have of the plain sweaters, shirts, etc because they fit great in my work wardrobe. they weren't that expensive to start, so target picking that line up wasn't that bad.

i usually also outlet shop, if you have access to outlets. memorial day weekend is usually a huge sale weekend for them, so that'd be a great time to hit them up. some clothing is designed strictly for their outlet, but you can get some past season stuff or slightly irregular stuff (i haven't found the irregularities 95% of the time) at some good prices. you should see how much stuff i have from ralph lauren!

I used to go to outlets a lot, until I stopped driving most of the time. Now I'll fit it in if I can, but it's less likely.

I've been trying the Target designer lines, but everytime I go my local Target is almost always sold out of EVERYTHING Proenza Schouler, so I've never gotten to try that particular line. I'm still planning to though. I like a lot of the Mizrahi stuff though.

The More magazine article recommends buying trendier pieces at H&M. Anyone shop their regularly? They always seem to have pretty good prices in ads/circulars/etc.

  3. So I was reading this month's issue of More Magazine, and it had a great article about mixing being both frugal and trendy when you're clothes shopping, and how everyone loves when you find a steal or great buy. The article said that this has become easier since high end designers are doing clothes for less expensive places - like Isaac Mizrahi's line for Target, and that this makes it really easy to mix and match classic pieces with cuter, trendier stuff. It sounds like good advice to me, especially because my budget is pretty tight right now.

Do any of you guys do this - or if you have another preferred method, what are your tips for more frugal fashion? I need to kind of upgrade my wardrobe for summer and I don't want to break the bank on it.

  4. Our Wal-Mart won't PM unless it's in the same town.

That's miserable! I can't say I've shopped at Wal-mart too recently though. They don't have too many of them around the immediate metro-DC area.

whalefan- What other GPS devices are you looking for? You might want to take a look at the TomTom line-up as well. They've got a couple of newer more expensive models out (510 and 910) but I'm pretty sure they still sell their older ones too (300) which is supposed to be a rocksolid work-horse.

As far as I remember, you can get TomTom's or Garmins just about anywhere now.

  5. Can't imagine why you would like the "Scott, Scott" one. :lolrun:

Have you had a chance to borrow a TomTom- I really appreciated being able to test out my friend's GO 300.

Anyone seen the new TomTom GO 510 and 910 at electronics stores? I heard from a gadget savvy friend that they are now in Best Buy, Circuit City and Radio Shack. So we can "test drive", pardon the bad pun, them now!

  6. One thing that I thought I wouldn't use much is the built in MP3 player, but it turns out that I did away with all of my CDs and now use the MP3 player all of the time. My car has an audio input on the front of the radio so I can just plug it in there from the Nuvi and it plays via my car speakers.

Isn't it great when gadgets can multi-task. Actually I'm looking into the TomTom GO 910 mentioned above (mainly bc it comes with US and Europe maps installed and ready to use), and learned that it can connect to iPods. Pretty cool, eh, imagine many people already have iPods so this is a great feature, rather than a GPS with MP3 built in.

Anyone else reading up on the TomTom GO 910 or have one already?

  7. This is on my short lists of GPS systems to get. I've read nothing but good things about TomTom.

Plus, their commercials are funny. :D

Yes, I am looking into GPS and have heard great things about TomTom. I borrowed a friend's TomTom GO 300 and it was very easy to use, the maps were up-to-date too.

And the commercials are funny, I like how the wife calls her husband Doug Doug. ;)

  8. Welcome. That's cool that the sipping inserts fit the knock offs- bet if Nalgene realized that they'd do a redesign to prevent that.

I use mine for camping (well tag-along camping when my boyfriend goes), so I don't really need the sip insert like I would at the gym.

  9. I saw at Dick's sporting goods about a month ago that the non-Nalgene brand version of the bottles was on sale for about half what the comparable Nalgene brand bottle cost, so I picked one up. It also included a cooling cover for the bottle. But I got mine in bright pink, which I imagine is not what you want to take to the gym Dig Doug.
  10. Recalled this discussion when I was explaining Netflix to my parents this week-trying to convince them to get that and get rid of premium channels (they actually upgraded to digital bc they cable co. made that cheaper- they don't watch most of the extra channels they get with digital so Netflix would be much cheaper all around).

Then I saw this item about Amazon offering content soon after shows- wonder if that will eat Netflix's lunch to some extent? What do you all think?\
