  1. You pay a little more for the Sony name and style, but I believe it's worth it. No one wants an ugly piece of crap. I've used Sony Vaios for years with no problems and excellent build quality. Good luck with the purchase.
  2. If you're going for latest and greatest, you might want to look at Intel's Core 2 Duo processors over AMD's current offerings.
  3. Hey man, You should at least give credit to where you stole that list/information from. I recognize it verbatim from another site I frequent (complete with in-jokes). It's the decent thing to do..
  4. Really wish all the Ivies would do this (and back-date it so I don't have to pay back all these damn loans). It'd help diversify the schools a bit; they tend to reflect a majority of wealthy, privileged students). I loved my school (an Ivy, but not Harvard), so I wouldn't say it was an oddball environment, but obviously the campus is going to be a bit more intense. Hope this program helps some people out.
  5. Adding memory to these laptops is your friend. I recently added 1GB of PC4200 dual channel ram to my CC Toshiba, and now it’s nickname is flash. I already played City of Heroes on it (just for portable purposes, my gaming rig is my desktop), and now I’ve noticed a huge performance jump in the game and with all other applications. It also allows you to dedicate the full 128mb to video. $75 shipped from newegg for the 1GB. Good luck with the upgrades, all.
  6. If anyone is planning on ordering RAM for their Toshiba (or any brand laptop that it would fit), NewEgg is having a 1-day sale today on 1GB of DDR2 Ram - $70, not including a mail-in rebate dropping the price to $60.95. NewEgg is the best with shipping and customer service, so I highly recommend giving them a try. I'm thinking of ordering a couple of sticks myself and just maxing out the RAM for about $140 before rebates. The sale is on until 5:30pm. Good luck, all.
  7. Now that I've properly thawed out , I can give my opinion on this laptop - I love it. I really enjoy the TruBrite screen, which I thought was nice, but didn't give too much of a second thought to when I was studying specs on all the BF laptops. It's been nice and fast for internet, word processing and the like....but it also runs games pretty well, I must say. I have a gaming desktop I use to play most of the time, but I've been messing around with Sims 2 and City of Heroes on the Toshiba, and have been singularly impressed. It's definitely not an Alienware or anything, but it's competent, and you can't beat the price. No one believes me when they ask how much I paid for it. I was able to extend my current AOL account (which I keep for sentimental reasons, had it since 1996), so it was really like paying $199 for it. The only downside is the 90 minute battery life, but that was known before I even purchased it, and I plan to upgrade after the holidays. I'm sorry more of you didn't get your hands on it, but there'll probably be deals just as good soon enough.
  8. My first BF experience was pretty awful, actually. My sister and I got to CC around 10pm to try and get the Toshiba laptop deal, no one was there, so we stayed in the warm car until 3 people showed up at 11pm. We got out our camping chairs and staked our spot as 4th and 5th in line. For the next 5 hours we absolutely froze our butts off. Wind chill temp was 16 degrees, and it felt colder than that. As the night wore on, people started randomly showing up for "saved spots" in line. Naturally people started to get pissed off and rowdy. Then when the CC employees started showing up, everyone basically flattened me and my sister against the glass. The first 10 people or so in line were nice, and mostly honest, so when it came time to hand out vouchers, we got ours. Once inside, it was a freakin madhouse, and get this - the AOL sign ups were not working. So we have to go back tomorrow to get our $250 cash back on the Toshiba laptops (the last place on earth I want to see right now is CC). I'm glad I got the laptop, as is my sister, but we paid a price with our fingers, toes, and sanity. Hats off to you repeat hardcore BF'ers. I can safely say it was the worst, most freezing night of my life and I'll be in bed next year!
