  1. It is internet speed and your machine. I clicked the minute it changed and I briefly saw the meter line and there were already some claimed. I mean I clicked split second and barely saw the status bar but I know it wasn't empty. I did get one.

I used my work PC. I would not have trusted that to my iPad even. One bad finger touch and I would have been wait listed. That's how fast the popular stuff goes.

  2. I can speak highly of the Lenovo. But it's got an Atom processor, so it's a tad bit slower than the Surface Pro.

The Surfaces that are on sale are last year's RTs. Those are lower powered than the full win 8 tablets. Heavy websites are pretty slow. But for plain Office stuff, it should work well.

remember, if you buy a non-RT, you will have to also purchase Office.

Thanks for that.  I will have to make sure it has office.

  3. Yep, know what you mean. There don't seem to be a lot of posts on Surface or Windows 8 tablets here, not many fans. So I try to post them as I come across them and answer questions as I can.

Good luck, hope you can still find one! I'm going to probably try the eBay deal, that's the next best one.

Yes - Ebay is my next option too.  I have decided on a Surface for dh.  He wants something he can use for work and they use tons of excel files that he would need to reference.  I have an ipad and have had an Acer Iconia and frankly didn't like the apps out there.  I think he would be happier with the windows tablet and the price tag for the Surface on BF is nice.  If I miss those though I will probably suck it up and get him something with straight windows 8.1 like the ASUS or Lenovo.

  4. Boo, hope you can get one!

My husband nonchalantly mentioned this deal to me a bit ago, he read it on one of his techie sites earlier today. I was like WHY didn't you tell me this earlier?! I need to let everyone on GD know! He said he'd be sure to tell me things sooner next time...

my friend at workplace is a member of a another unnamed deal site and he found it listed there. He didn't let me know until he saw it after he got back from lunch and by then it was too late. Just wondering why we didn't find it here? Made me sad :(

I am the ultimate GD'er, I only check GD. Bit me in the butt this time unfortunately this time. Doesn't happen often.

  5. Microcenter has the surface with keyboard for $179, in store only. Not sure what the dates are, but it is supposedly live now.

    No stores here. :(

I found that deal earlier today, it was a preorder for Black Friday - pick up in store, however, they stopped selling the preorder because of the high demand.  I know it includes a keyboard too.  Don't know if they will have more than the preorder quantity in the store for me to bother making the trip over there on Friday.

  6. I am interested in knowing if any of the online specialty sports stores do sales for BF? My dd wants a new fastpitch bat this Christmas. Some of you softball parents may understand why I am looking for a sale, the bats she is interested in are $299 and up. Yep. As much as some TVs. I would love to find a deal. No matter what she says, a 9 year old isn't going to be happy with just getting a bat as her only present at Christmas.
  7. My husband wants a tablet he can user for work that will run excel/office. I haven't read many positive things about the surface and windows rt. is it worth it to buy him a surface on sale on bf or getting him a surface 2? Or is there another windows tablet that would be better. My budget is no more than $500.
  8. I want to make a treasure hunt for the $$ I am giving my kids this year. I plan on having them start with a gift under the tree that has a riddle leading them to another object or room in the house. I would like for them to have at least 10 riddles/clues with different locations around the house before they find their final gift. It is going to be bitterly cold here on Christmas so I don't think I will make them go outside at all but want them to work a little for their cash, lol.

I am not very creative so I was hoping I might get some riddle help for different objects or rooms around the house. I would really appreciate any and all help.

    Thank!!

  9. Snowball toss in buckets. Also you can toss snowballs in the mouth of a snowman.

When my sons were younger in cub scouts they played a game where you divided the room in half and split the group. You took tissues and threw them at the other team. Every tissue that was on the floor was counted after time was up and the team that had the most tissues on the floor lost.

  10. Personally I would hire a band on Ninjas, solves multiple things here. 1. WHO DOESN'T LOVE NINJAS. 2. They will rid the neighborhood of people not fitting. 3. Again NINJAS.

    :)

Being more serious it's disgusting the things people do. I'm originally from MI and we have a place called Bronners that's a Christmas wonderland. AWESOME place. Last year some kids vandalized multiple statues and displays causing around $100k in damage. Whats even worse. They did it on Christmas. DISGUSTING. I would look at a streaming web camera and put up a notice that says Hope you enjoy our decorations and being on camera. SMILE.

LOVE IT! I DO love ninjas.

My husband does have a camera system. I think he is going to fix it and get it going again. The sign is a great idea too.

  11. I received my SS gift today - THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I love absolutely everything. I am going to get it all together this weekend for a nice picture. I received some fruit chips (low calorie and no sugar added which is exactly what I want), a box of 100 calorie pack natural almonds, a box of Great Value Energy Drink Mix packets (my favorite), a K-State stocking (yahoo Fiesta Bowl baby), 3 great bbw lotions and best of all a heated car pad for my seat in the bus. It gets cold on that bus sometimes :)

I am thrilled for everything - my SS did a great job reading my answers to the questions and did a fantastic job picking out great items for me. I am so happy for the healthy treats. I do love candy but since I have mostly cut out sugar from my diet eating that stuff may taste good but leaves me feeling awful. The healthy treats are just what I need right now!!

I have to say I was really bummed earlier today. I posted in another thread that someone stole one of my lawn decorations either last night or some time today. I was going to wait to open my gift but my hubby saw how upset I was and cut open the box and made me open it. Guess he is pretty smart after all :P

  12. Tonight my husband asks me "Where is your little polar bear?". I have or, should say had, a set of 2 polar bears - a big mom which moves its head side to side and a static baby. They are the lighted tinsel type. Sure enough baby is gone. The stakes are still in the yard but the bear is MIA.

I am frustrated because this isn't the first time my yard decorations have been stolen or just plain vandalised. In fact last year was probably the first year my stuff was left alone. I have other things out like my Rudolph that I am worried will get taken next. We don't live in a bad area - and our other holiday decorations don't get bothered any other time of the year. We have a huge Halloween display we put up every year- a full cemetary with huge pillars in front, a pvc fence and tons of props. Nothing happens to that. Why just Christmas?

I am really bummed. It sucks that people just want to bring other people down.

  13. I received the greatest Hallmark Keepsake Ornament from my favorite Christmas movie "A Christmas Story". I am thrilled - thank you so much. I had already watched the movie before Thanksgiving and will be watching it more and more as the season moves along. This is my first Christmas Story ornament and I really love it :)
  14. I remember going over to my grandparents house every Christmas Eve and celebrating with my family. My mom is one of 7 kids and I am the oldest grandchild. The next didn't come along until my dumb brother 4 years later, lol. (that was my thought anyway and you can tell by the pictures of me holding him as a baby). I remember one year I got pom pom's and I went outside on the front porch and pretended to be a cheerleader for over an hour.

The only other year I can remember vividly is the year my mom got me a Lane Cedar chest as my "big" gift. She was so happy and thrilled and I have to admit - I was a total b about it. I was probably 15 or 16 at the time and I HATED that gift. I still have the chest by the way, lol.
