Gather round children and I shall tell you a story of how Black Friday was done MANY years ago (11 to be exact)... before blackfriday.gottadeal.com came along. The family would eagerly await the arrival of the newspaper on Thanksgiving day - filled with the wondrous Black Friday Sale Ads... we would divide them up and with notebook in hand we would write down the stores and the items we wanted from them. After all ads had gone through all hands we would compare lists and make out a game plan of which stores we would hit first and who went where. http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=HN.608009610985670007&pid=15.1&P=0 Fast forward to Black Friday and how we do it today... now, we are able to see the ads days, weeks and sometimes a month in advance on blackfriday.gottadeal.com, we use the "My Shopping List" under "Features" on the site and as ads are leaked we add the deals we want to our shopping lists. We then gather about a week before Black Friday, compare lists and make out our game plan. Do you pre-make your game plan? If so - how do you do it? (Notebook paper, computerized list, etc.)

Target to start their Black Friday sale on Thanksgiving Day!
magickallight replied to magickallight's topic in 2014
Don't feel bad - we ONLY have a Walmart and we just got that a few years ago - the nearest Target is in the next city and the nearest K-mart is over an hour and a half away! But - the internet is my BEST friend - living in the middle of nowhere. LOL -
When I was growing up we always lit a candle and sang Happy Birthday to the baby Jesus in the nativity scene before any gifts could be opened, to remind us of the "reason for the season". When my kids were little they were always allowed to open their Christmas PJ's from under the tree on Christmas Eve, then once in them we would always read "The Night Before Christmas" before they went to bed... They are all grown now - but still request me to read the book before they go to their homes when they visit on Christmas Eve each year.

This year I am getting my mom a years worth of Direct TV, as it is a luxury item to her that she can't bring herself to pay for - but would truly enjoy. Hubby is hard to shop for as he buys anything and everything that he wants for himself - so I have been doing a few little gifts for him each year and then he gets a gift certificate to his favorite seafood shop and one to his favorite butcher shop to buy the foods he loves. (I benefit from these, too - so it's a win-win situation.)

I've gotten a TON of great bargains and deals throughout my MANY years of Black Friday shopping and thought it would be fun to hear what others have gotten that they consider their BEST Deal or Deals from their Black Friday shopping sprees. Lets share... http://ts2.mm.bing.net/th?id=HN.608003563668767341&pid=15.1&P=0

Have you ever or Would you ever Camp Out for Black Friday Deals?
magickallight replied to magickallight's topic in 2014
I think 12 hours counts as camping out... your legs must have been KILLING YOU! Did your wind up getting the TV? -
I've been guilty of leaving around 3am to stand in line for super hot Black Friday deals - but have never camped out to get them. Have you ever or Would you ever Camp Out for Black Friday Deals? If you have - what deals motivated you to do it? If you haven't - WOULD you and if so - what kind of deals would you be willing to camp out for? http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=HN.608001248685460234&pid=15.1&P=0

Many times I find deals on stuff I have been wanting for myself or the house on great deals on Black Friday - and if money allows, I grab it. This year I am hoping for some great prices on a new convection oven, a mattress, and possibly a bigger TV for the family room. Do you buy for yourself on Black Friday? If so, what are you looking for this year? http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=HN.608036664981062455&pid=15.1&P=0

Target's Black Friday sale this year will start on Thursday, November 27, 2014. Target's Black Friday sale started on Thanksgiving last year as well. So far, they have left out the exact starting time for the sale, but last year they started the sale at 8pm. The sale ends on Saturday, November 29 making this a three-day Black Friday event and back-to-back with their Cyber Week starting on Sunday, November 30, 2014 - the day before Cyber Monday. Combined with a week-long Cyber Monday sale, shoppers will have ten consecutive days of hot deals and Black Friday savings. You can sign up for advance info HERE http://www.blackfriday.fm/bf_image/news_images/1526_1412785700.jpg

National Retail Federation expects 4.1% increase in holiday sales
magickallight replied to Brad's topic in 2014
My thoughts are toys for kids and grownups are getting MORE expensive - when a child that would have been happy with a teddy bear wants a tablet or robotic pet - to keep them happy - parents spend more. Plus, grownups buy for themselves during the big sales during the 4th quarter, new tablets, new Apple products being released and older versions being sold at great prices = more spending. I think internet stores sales will hit an all time high this year - more and more people are going to shop from the comfort of their home and without the worry of catching all these illnesses that are out there.
