  1. Per foxbusiness.com Walmart ditching layaway option for 2021 holiday season Walmart says it will ditch its layaway option for the upcoming holiday season in exchange for a buy-now, pay-later option through Affirm. Walmart's seasonal layaway program, which has run from late August through mid-December in previous years, allows customers to put items on hold with a small deposit and make a series of interest-free, regular payments until the total is paid off. Once paid off, customers could then pick their products up from their local Walmart store. Instead, Walmart customers purchasing items online can now choose Affirm as a payment method at checkout and apply for a loan. Meanwhile, for in-store purchases, customers can apply for a loan online, pick their desired payment plan and scan a single use barcode at the register. "We've learned a lot in the past year as our customers’ needs and shopping habits have changed," a Walmart spokesperson told FOX Business Thursday. "Last holiday season, we removed seasonal layaway from most of our stores with the exception of select jewelry items at select stores, and based on what we learned, we are confident that our payment options provide the right solutions for our customers." According to its website, Walmart will partner with Affirm to offer 10% to 30% APR on a wide variety of product categories, including electronics, video games, toys, home, arts & crafts, musical instruments, home improvement, auto, sports & outdoors, tools, baby, jewelry and apparel. Some promotional items on Walmart.com will also be made available at 0% APR. Loan repayment options range between three months to a year for purchases between $144 to $799.99 and 1 to 2 years for purchases between $800 to $2,000. Affirm does not charge any late fees, prepayment fees, annual fees, hidden fees or service fees to open or close accounts.

  4. Something I had not thought about... Artificial Christmas Trees! Per CNN.com: "Thomas Harman is the founder and CEO of Balsam Hill, a retailer of home décor products with a focus on high-end artificial Christmas trees. The opinions expressed in this commentary are his own. " Perspectives Thomas Harman Right now, the American supply chain — which includes US ports, railroads, trucks, delivery services, warehouses and the many people who run them — is overwhelmed. As the economy recovers, there is a growing demand for an array of consumer goods as well as the parts, raw materials and other inputs that manufacturers use. Because many of these items are imported, ports get backed up and cargo ships wait offshore. Rail lines have to pause service to major hubs, like Chicago, due to congestion. Trucks wait for hours to get in and out of ports. And as all of these supply chain components move more slowly, none of them can be as efficient and the cost of doing business increases. For businesses like mine that depend on an efficient supply chain to help deliver products to our customers, importing goods right now is a bit like trying to catch an Uber or Lyft at the stadium right after a big football game: You may have to wait a long time to get a ride, you pay surge pricing rates, your ride gets stuck in traffic, and you have to pay for the extra time it took to reach your destination. In fact, we are paying four to 10 times more than in prior years just to get a container of our products — such as artificial Christmas trees, wreaths and other holiday decorations — from Asia to our warehouses in the United States. Even at these increased shipping prices, we still cannot get enough cargo space on ocean freight ships to import all the products we hope to sell this year. When we do get space, the shipping companies often ship our products several weeks or months later than initially promised. To add insult to injury, after we have unloaded a shipping container into a warehouse, the US ports are often too congested for us to return the empty container, so the shipping companies charge us "detention and demurrage" fees for holding containers too long. These charges sometimes exceed what we paid to ship a container all the way across the Pacific last year. For retailers like us, this means that we have to raise prices and cut costs by hiring fewer people. We have also had to make hard choices about which products we will have available to our customers, since it is unlikely that we will be able to get all of our products here before the Christmas shopping season. For smaller retailers, especially mom-and-pop shops that are struggling to make a comeback after the Covid shutdowns, they may not be able to get products in at all. As a result, Americans can expect more product shortages, higher prices and the closing of stores that can't secure enough inventory to stay in business unless supply chain congestion abates.
  5. I am looking forward to trying all of the above! Got in some veal stew meat that I can't wait to experiment with! I could spend days on that site and still feel like I haven't seen everything! With more that 600 items it is a lot to take in.
  6. Shipment arrived and everything looks good! The name of the company is Wild Fork. I am also using Misfit Market for my fruits and vegetables and they have just started carrying some meats and meat substitutes as well. If anyone wants to try Misfit Markets - just PM me and I have coupons I can give towards them. With the shortages at the stores we have been experimenting with other ways to get our food - some are great - like the ones above - other ... NOT so much.
  7. How in the heck do you stuff a prime rib?!? LOL! I actually have found what seems like a wonderful online exotic and regular meat supplier - should have a Christmas goose (which I have NOT been able to get where I live sine 1998!) Ordered some other things to check them out first - BUT if these work out - they have just gotten a shipment of turkeys in - as well as prime rib and everything from, yak & ostrich, to alligator. Will advise once I am sure everything is good - but since they have over 20 physical locations - I think it will be. :::Fingers Crossed!:::
  8. We can only do pickup at Walmart and at a small local store - both of which informed us they will not get any turkeys in until November - IF THEY GET THEM! :::Sigh::: Would love to hear if other areas of the USA are experiencing the same thing.

  17. Via lifehacker Due to pandemic-related supply chain issues, you should expect fewer bargains and depleted inventory when you do your holiday shopping this year. But some retailers think it is going to be worse than that, and are already telling their customers “September is the new December” and that they should start shopping now, as some products may be very hard to find come November and December. Whole article here.

  20. From Fox Business "As millions of Americans prepare to get ahead of their holiday shopping, retail experts say shipping delays and supply shortages are imminent." "With shipping delays, there will be products that will just simply be unavailable as we get closer to Christmas," said Gretel Going, the founder of Fortune & Frame – a personalized jewelry company. "Bulky items such as TVs, furniture, tables, and rugs are going to be the worst affected by shipping disruptions. Smaller categories such as personal accessories and jewelry will not see the same disruption due to the ability to ship by air." She went on, adding that retailers will likely discount items that are in stock for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but it’s going to become a challenge "as supply shortages mount." "Currently, many retailers are low on inventory and don’t have definitive dates to restock their shelves. Holiday shoppers will contend with lack of inventory and higher costs," he shared. "Supply chains are interconnected and complex — whether it is a blockage in the Suez Canal, a fire at a chemical factory or shutdowns from a pandemic, when any link in that chain is disrupted, the impact can be felt globally." In her words, "It would be beneficial for consumers this season to explore new brands that may not be their typical go-to."
