  1. for the person that asked about cards...they love to receive them. and when I send one I send a blank with it. That way if they want to send one home they can. Not a lot of Hallmark stores on the battlefront:) I went to the paper outlet this week and bought boxes of alloccasion and christmas cards to send over. They seem to love to be able to send real greeting cards home.
  2. our office hands out $100 to all secretaries and staff on the day before tgiving! They have bfast brought in and hand out $$$.
  3. For the past 3 years I've added a lot of strangers to my Xmas shopping list. There is a great web based org started by an Army mom when her son was in Iraq called soldier's angels. Its motto: May no soldier go unloved. May no soldier walk alone. May no soldier be forgotten, Until they all come home. SoldiersAngels.org The lady that started it, Patti Bader-Smith sends me emails with the wish lists of soldiers that are likely to be forgotten at Christmas. Most ask for very simple things (last year calendars, video games and tennis shoes). I've attached a sample email below. It is a 501c3 so anything you send can be deducted. Consider adding them to your BF list. It is a great way to make your Christmas better. Also, for those folks that are never satisfied, I have taken to sending a gift in their name and giving them a card telling tham about what I did. They'll never be happy-but with this strategy someone will!!! Look at the web site, send Patti an email even if you can only spare $10 for a couple of doorbuster DVDs at least they'll know someone is thinking of them. As an aside, my 8 yo and 5 yo kids have really enjoyed doing some of the shopping. They know that it means a few less things for them--but they still love it. email: Hello Patti, First thing I would like to say is how much I appreciate what you and your organization are doing for the troops everywhere. After talking to my guys I actually got a list out of them:-) I know they will be appreciative of anything that they receive. We would love to have Christmas lights and mini trees definitely. Those will come in handy for the Christmas Party I am planning already. My guys said the following would brighten their holidays: mp3 players, dvds, cds, blank dvds, blank cds, ps2 games, playstation games, massaging foot tub, xbox games, any kind of snacks and candy, and two of my guys said a 2006 Harley Davidson Deuce and 3 of us said our wives:-) I told them that the Harley would probably be too much for shipping so they might have to wait for that one and i'm not sure if my wife would want to be stuffed in a box to get mailed over:-) Anything you and your organization can send to put a smile on their faces will make it worthwhile. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and god bless you all, Allen SFC ALLEN CARTER ENGLISH RHHT 3D ACR MOTOR SERGEANT CAMP SYKES, IRAQ

    Recon at WM & TRU

sorry if I didn't make it clear on the green tags. Our TRU had the juicebox stuff. It seemed like a really good deal but I'm not sure how much stuff you end up buying to go with it. The other big bargain was a spiderman lead pad for $18.00. It was really cute and great incentive to get your boys to read.

    Recon at WM & TRU

I live near a 24hr WM and decided to do some recon. In the past they have closed on Tgiving and reopened on Friday. I spoke with the Manager and she confirmed that they would be open on Tgiving with no close before the BF ad pricing started, that they would pricematch items with a stated price (not % off or B1G1) and that layaways put up prior to BF but taken out on BF would reflect BF pricing. [they did not have the dvd player, MP3 player of cabbage patch newborns in stock] No noticable overstock anywhere in the store. TRU The freebie this year is a really nice plush Pooh bear. They WILL NOT price match. And the big book ad will start FRIDAY rather than Monday. Further, the manager stated that BF will not be their primary push this year. Rather, they are going to have newspaper ads every week until xmas and each ad will have a couple of big deals. ie. last 2 weeks were B1G1 board games, this week B2G1 video games and B1G1 Barbies. Also, they had tons of green tag stuff at 50% off. Looks like I'll be spending time at wallyworld.
