  1. Yeah, before this popped up, I was looking at getting a Kindle Fire for $199, but I wasn't big on the 7", and having no mic/camera on the unit. Best Buy will be opening at midnight. Not sure if you need to line up for this or not, depending on how big demand is for tablets this year. They could also sell them on bestbuy.com I'd also check out Amazon as well, since they price match on occasion as well.
  2. No, this is the standard 16gb unit... Also, take note of the keyboard dock is also on sale in the ad for $99 (regularly $150) OP, this is a good tablet, it's dropping in price because a newer version with a quad core chip will be shipping next month for $500. This is still a very responsive dual core tablet, with a 10 inch screen for under $250, Really, you probably are not going to find a better deal on a tablet this size (aside from the Touchpad, but I owned one and didn't like it).
  3. Stores can not undersell the Ipad or Ipad2, it's locked in price by Apple.. that's why you see all of these gift cards or cases added to bundles for the same price as the Ipad by itself. They're trying to add "value" while still keeping the same MSRP. You might find bigger gift cards during BF, but not cheaper prices.
  4. I agree on this.. If you just want games and music, Ipod Touch is better. Although for the price, you get more "bang for the buck" with Kindle Fire, as you also get an ereader and web browser. It's also extremely easy to upload your music to Amazon's cloud service as well, and then you can play it back just about anywhere.
  5. Amazon (through Woot.com) has a 32gb Xoom refurbished for $339 today only. http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/ref=cs_top_nav_gb27
  6. You guys may want to look at the 7" HTC Flyer... Best Buy recently dropped the price to $299, and it's probably safe to assume that these could go even cheaper by the time BF hits. I wouldn't say that HTC is getting out of the tablet business, but they may be preparing a newer model, hence the recent price drop, and even at this price, it's a good deal for those looking for an Ipad alternative.
  7. Being that close to your contract date, you should be able to work something out with AT&T, especially if they know you're going to be around 2 more years.. I couldn't see any company splitting hairs over a couple weeks... depending on your rate plan, some companies like Verizon even offer early upgrades as early as 12-18 months into a contract.
  8. It's really a push on these systems, both are good value for the money I think.. The Walmart one has a bit more in way of connections (HDMI Out, more USB), the Best Buy one has more RAM and hard drive space. I've always preferred AMD over Intel, but that's just me, you really can't go wrong with either one though.. That being said, both laptops will be in-store only. You will need to get at each store probably several hours in advance!
  9. Systems (and Kinect) are usually not discounted beyond their normal everyday price, much like Apple products. Although, you will see items bundled in, like gift cards or extra games to get more value at the same price point.
  10. [quote name='iluvwalmart;1774782]I need some help, I am looking at the HP Pavilion Desktop Tower for 498 & would like some feedback. If any has had a HP, have you had many problems, would you recommend this brand? Any help would be much appreciated. I don't need a whole puter just the tower so this caught my eye. I prefer purchasing one in a store in case of problems don't have to bother shipping it back. I owned an HP computer several years ago, never really had any problems with them. A lot of times these companies will throw a lot of software on these systems that you probably don't need (or want for that matter). You'll want to create a backup CD for the operating system, as these companies don't usually include a Windows CD these days, and you'll need that backup CD if you ever need to re-install Windows on it. Basically you'll want to look at how much memory and how much hard drive space is in these computers, bigger is always better, and how much you want to spend on it.
  11. Yeah, HDMI cables are pretty much universal, at least the ones that connect to TVs, now if the other end is connecting to a cell phone or other device like that, you may run into different connectors. But usually if you're going from a game system, cable box or satellite box to a tv, then a regular hdmi cable is all you need. That being said, don't fall into the trap of paying too much for HDMI cables, most can do the trick for under $10 if you're willing to buy online :)
  12. It varies by stores (Supercenters and regular stores, etc) but I know the 24 hour supercenters usually have items scattered all around the store, along with a map showing you the location of each item, then you just go stand by what you want til 5am, and pray to God you don't get trampled in the process
  13. There is nothing wrong with the Element brand, it's just a budget line, similar to Best Buy's Insignia line. They are manufactured by Element Electronics, their website is www.elementelectronics.com, the parent company also sells Emerson and Polaroid brand TVs and other products.
  14. Thanks for answering that :) It will go well with my Magnavox TV :)
  15. Yeah, definite YMMV on price matching.. but stores typically don't during the Black Friday hours, although you may get a good manager or CSM that might price match for you.. just remember, courtesy goes a long way.
  16. I tend to agree with most of the commenters here.. I don't think it's under attack, just changing.. with online shopping on the rise, companies are just trying to adapt to find a better way to drive sales to consumers who may not be able to get out on friday morning in the wee hours of the day. I know personally, a couple of the past BFs I wasn't able to attend due to a family emergency, still it was nice to be able to go online and get mostly what I wanted at the same price. Also, there is the fact that no matter how many BFs there are, some stores will just never get it together. Disorganized, Misinformed, and just generally lacking.. Sometimes its a pain in the posterior to go and visit these stores, when you can just load up a website in your undies and not have to worry about it (sorry for the disturbing mental image for some!) While I still think the truly "doorbuster" prices will always be for the B&M stores only, the majority of sales can now be found online, and usually at all times of the year, so naturally the crowds may be a bit thinner than in years past.
  17. I'm hoping to see good deals on tablets. While I don't expect any deals on and Ipad, I would love to see a good android based tablet go on sale at a decent price in time for the holidays. I know of at least a couple good ones coming down the road, but I don't think they'll be in time for the holidays..heh.
  18. bleh, the sale started and was finished literally in seconds, I couldn't even finish the paypal checkout... you have better luck scoring Woot's BoC
  19. Thanks for the tip! Although, in my experiences, I've had trouble price matching stores on black friday, so YMMV... Also, a question to owners out there... I was checking out tv's at Wal-Mart last night, as I said I'll be purchasing one on BF. I was checking out the differences between LCD and Plasma and 720 and 1080p and such. Granted, I couldn't check out much in the way of resolution, as I really doubt that the signal going to all those tv's is indeed an HD signal to even begin with :\ But I did notice that the Plasmas have a very noticeable glare on the sets, which might be a deal-breaker for me, as the tv is going in the front living room, that has 4 windows in it (including the door). Curtains help out a lot, but there is still going to be a small glare in it, but I suspect it won't be any worse than the CRT I have now (which isn't even flat screen). But, back to my question... In the LCD's I owned, which include a computer monitor and a PSP, I've noticed a bit of dead pixels on the screens (which for those who don't know, are pixels that stay constantly black or white on screen at all times). However, are dead pixels a really big issue in HDTV's? My main concern is some of these door-busters that these stores are offering, are not "checked for quality" like some of the TV's that these stores normally carry.. Have any of you had to return your BF TV's for this or similar issues?
  20. I used to own a 26" Sylvania console televison (haha remember those!?) but really, it lasted about 12 years or so, definitely got the money worth out of that... I'd buy a Sylvania TV anyday over an Element or Olivia. But also, to be fair, some of these "no-brand" tv's are actually made by the same name brand "big guys', it's just their cheap label..
  21. I can't speak for their HDTV products as I will be buying my 1st set this year, but we're replacing a 26" RCA SDTV that has been going strong for 11 years with no problems :)
  22. a lot of the b&m stores like Wal-Mart is offering a free pack in for the everyday price of the console by itself ($399), and some stores like Target was offering a $50 gift card around Black Friday, but I am not sure they're doing it now. The game being offered at Wal-Mart is MotoGP 3.
  23. I was looking into this, but don't know much about the company behind it..anyone heard of any feedback on this tv, or know of a company webpage or something?
  24. I wouldn't mind seeing another great deal on a laptop, I just missed out on the Staples $399 by a few people.. They had about 15 or so, and I was #21 in line....argh! Still, Walmart can use another BF type day as their sales were probably pretty bad..
