  1. Not much of a guarantee if they aren't really guaranteeing it. I bet there will be a lot of disappointed people. A substitution may be fine for the tv or blu-ray player, but I was interested in the iPad. Since there is nothing to substitute I may be just giving $400 to walmart to hang on to and end up with nothing to show for it. If I am not getting it I could use that money for other presents. Why can't they do it like online retailers do - not charge your card until it is shipped (or arrives at the store)?

    Checkout lines?

I have never gone to walmart on Black Friday before. How bad are the checkout lines? The 3 items they have guaranteed if they sell out - you get a guarantee card and the item must be paid for by midnight and registered online. The product will then be shipped to the store where it was purchased for the customer to pick up before Dec. 25. So if I get a guarantee card at 11pm - is it even possible to check out by midnight? Do they have express lanes open if you aren't getting a lot of items?
  3. It is on the front cover - a little circle thing.
  4. I see on the Black Friday flyer that they are advertising Price Matching. The fine print is to tiny for me to read. Does anyone know if they will be matching doorbuster prices or just the all day sale prices?
  5. I see that on the flyer on their website that all the sales are starting at 1am. So no staggered sales for us. I am wondering if anyone knows how this will work for the three items that have the 1 hour guarantee? The ad says that they are guarantee it from 10 to 11. Does this mean in MA and RI it is guaranteed from 1-2am? And how does this guarantee thing work? Do you just have to be in line between 10 & 11 or do you have to make it to the front of the line by 11? (if you have to be to the front of the line by 11 I can see walmart instructing employees to take their time so not as many rainchecks have to be given out)
  6. I don't know about the other stores but I know that the Wrentham outlets is technically a 12:01 opening to comply with the blue laws. I don't know what they do about the employees that have to work. I doubt that they really don't report to work until 12:00 and have 1 minute to get the store ready to open. I suspect that they are there earlier, but just don't punch in.
  7. I know a lot of the stores are advertising earlier and earlier opening times - some on Thanksgiving itself. But they can't do that in Massachusetts (Blue Laws). Employees cannot clock in until after midnight so stores are re-scheduling their opening times. From an article on boston.com: "In recent days, Walmart, Target, and Macy’s have all retreated from previously announced midnight promotions at their Massachusetts locations. Macy’s now plans a 12:30 a.m. opening on Black Friday, Target is scheduling a 1 a.m. start, and Walmart has pushed its kickoff to 4 a.m." So most of the stores like Target will just be starting their sales later than the ad papers online say, but what about Wal-mart? They are having staggered sales advertised for 10pm on Thursday, midnight and 8am Friday. How are they working that in Massachusetts?
  8. My local mall is having a Black Friday VIP promotion. For $10 I get a primo parking space that I use all day (come and go as I please) and a VIP lounge with refreshments. I figured I would take a chance since the mall will not be my first stop that morning and I hate looking for parking. Plus I can rest in the lounge or go home and nap and come back.
  9. I am not fond of rebates that you have to send in, but mostly I hate the type you get on the bottom of the receipt. Like CVS. They advertise it as a "sale" but it is really the regular price and you get $2 (or whatever) back in extra care bucks. That is fine if I use the $2 but if I don't get back there to use it before it expires then I just paid full price.
  10. I have had an acer laptop for a year now and never had any kind of a problem. My computer geek friend says both acer and emachines are just fine for the average user. decent machines
  11. I can understand why they do it, but don't call it a debit card if it really isn't a debit card. And I specifically asked about using it on BF and was told I could, but not told that there could be limitations. According to the agreement paper work I received they say they use EFT, not ACH. I thought EFT verified the funds availability in real time, unlike the ACH system. One thing that kills me is that both people I spoke with urged me to go ahead and make several purchases around $100 each to help bring my limit up to the $450 I need for the TV (even though the tv would no longer be on sale) and to make more available to use on BF (of course they have no idea what that amount could be). So I should go and buy several hundred dollars of stuff that I don't really need right now so that I can save 5% on BF? I don't think so.
  12. Well, I called the debit card people again to find out why I can't buy much....basically I am being punished for usually paying cash or debit card for my prior purchases there. If you have a history of using checks there you can use the target debit card for more. She said that they need to establish a history with my bank sending them the payments, as time goes on and they continue to get paid by my bank they will start to increase my limit. And according to her it takes a week or so for them to get a payment from my bank. I find that hard to believe since I used it for a $10 purchase this morning and that money has already been taken from my checking account. If it is a transaction between two banks I am sure it is done electronically. And there is no way for them to be able to tell how much I can use the target debit card for ahead of time. I am sure that she was trying to be helpful when she suggested that I use the target debit card and another form of payment to get the tv I want. When I asked her she had to admit that I would only get the 5% off the amount I use their card for...there is a big difference between saving $5 vs. $25. Plus I pointed out to her that I have no idea how much I can use it for so I would have to keep guessing and having it denied until I got to an amount that they would approve. Wouldn't you love to be the one behind me playing this guessing game on BF? If you are shopping in the Plainville, MA Target on BF, don't get in line behind any large women with light brown hair. I plan to start the guessing game high and go down by only $5 each time, I want the most for my 5% :) Luckily the manager of the electronics dept at this target was sympathetic. And it made no sense to him because the day he got his he spent about $600. He gave me a rain check for the tv so that I can get it when this finally gets straightened out.
  13. I have my account with TD bank, so it not like a little local bank. Maybe the unwritten limit in the beginning is $250? I was getting a $450 tv. I think I might go see a manager and ask them to make up the 5% I can't get with the card with gift cards like I have heard Walmart sometimes does. Thing that sucks is that there is no way of knowing what the limit might be...if it is around $250 an on BF I spend $275 am I going to be denied?
  14. I just found out the hard way that you have to slowly build up a relationship between the debit card and you bank before you can make any type of substantial purchase. I signed up for the card last week and I went to buy a tv on sale this week and it was decline - it was too large of purchase. It could take weeks of making several smaller purchases to build up enough of a relationship to buy something that expensive - and it is only a 32" tv so it really isn't all that expensive. If I make several smaller purchases between now and BF I still may not be able to use it for more than $100, and he could not guarantee that much. And there is no way to know how much I can use it for on BF until I get to the register. So unless you have only a little to get at Target on BF don't plan on using the debit card and saving 5%.
