  1. Last year when the Nintendo Wii came out I arrived at 11pm to join the 6 or so people already in line. As the night wore on another 35 or so people slowly joined the line. 5 minutes before 7 am some woman got out of her car and tried to go to the front of the line. She was real defiant and stated that the ad said these go on sale at 8 am and she is here before 8 am so she is going to get one. Of course, we heckled her and caused a commotion. When the store manager came out a few minutes later we explained what was going on. She was told to go to the back of the line like everyone else. Unfortunately she ended up getting one because they had like 40. I hate people who think they are better than the rest of us.
  2. Without the guidance of early Black Friday ads to strategically plan our trips we should no longer shop at Walmart. Actually we shouldn't shop there anyways. Always low prices, even lower wages. My kids will not be getting Walmart (Chinese made) toys this year and they already know it. We will be doing more old fashioned things like books and art supplies. I guess its a good thing my kids like that sort of thing. If we did this in mass, just maybe Walmart would get the message.

Its funny, when Walmart first came to town in the late eighties or early nineties, they had all these signs that said "Made in USA" and "American made". Quickly those signs dissipated and were replaced by the stupid smiley faced emoticon that slashed prices everywhere in the store. Unfortunately our economy has literally forced millions of Americans into shopping for the lowest price at any cost. Hence the reliance on Chinese made goods and the disappearance of the American manufacturing economy. Walmart will not be getting any of my family's hard earned cash this season.

  3. Our Meijer was pretty wiped out by 6am here too. I had grabbed the last 2 littlest pet shop b1g1 free things too....Then a young mother came by and asked me where I found them and I gave them to her, my daughter is 8 and doesn't really like this stuff anymore, but its so hard with the "great deal" mentality to not put something I don't need in my cart, LOL I got there about 5:15 and went around and got everything I needed. There was quite a line in the electronics department either for the Ipod or TV. I am so glad I didnt want anything there this year!! What I found was funny is the dedication that we bargain hunters share. It was soooo foggy this morning and our Meijer store is out on the fringe of the city. You could hardly see a few feet in front of you to drive yet the parking lot was full at 5:30 am. I must be nuts.
  4. My kids are getting the DS lite. They are 5 and 8. I bought them a Nintendo Wii on Sunday...yes I waited 8 hours in the freezing rain for Target to open, LOL The Wii is the most fun gaming system we have ever owned. It may not have the graphics of the PS3 but for the family, you cannot beat the fun this thing offers. It really feels like you are in the game. I am thinking about a PSP for myself, but I don't play games. I thought of it more as a neat little tools to store some family videos, pictures and music and be able to surf the internet at Panera, LOL
  5. Yes they do accept food stamps, sorry, I forgot about that. One one hand it was great to only have to handle cash and stamps, but then again, really hard to shop there when I only use checks and credit cards now. I have to admit I haven't been in an Aldi's in almost 13 years. Perhaps I should go back and check out the deals.
  6. I used to manage an Aldi's store. At that time we didn't have BF type deal, just deals every week. Most of the items were of good quality with names not familiar in the US. Alot of it was German, where Aldi's is from. The only thing about Aldi's we didn't take checks or credit cards, just good old fashioned cash. I think this may have changed but its been quite a few years since I've been there.
  7. 7 is probably a bit too old for this. My 7 year old would play with it for maybe an hour and then that would be the end of her. She is already starting to expand her world and wants books, learning things, nintendo ds, mp3 players and make up. She has 2 older sisters (23 and 14) so that may very well be why she is so intent on growing up now.
