  15. ill have to search to see which stores are to close (which i dont think they have released those yet)...but lets hope they wait until after black friday to do so... link: http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/industries/retail/report-circuit-city-shut-stores-cut-jobs/ cut and paste: Report: Circuit City to Shut Stores, Cut Jobs Circuit City (CC: 0.35, -0.04, -10.25%), the second largest electronic retailer by sales, plans to cut thousands of jobs and close at least 150 stores, according to The Wall Street Journal. Circuit City would make these cutbacks instead of filing for bankruptcy-court protection, according to people familiar with the matter. However, earlier this month the company retained the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP as its bankruptcy counsel. This firm oversaw Kmart’s Chapter 11 reorganization several years ago. FTI Consulting was also retained by Circuit City to assist in the development of a turnaround plan and to help secure emergency financing with banks, according to the Journal. Circuit City has also explored liquidation options recently, and is investigating how much money could be raised from selling millions of dollars worth of inventory, according to the Journal. Circuit City is particularly trying to avoid bankruptcy before the holiday season for fear that customers might worry about warranty guarantees on items like flat screen TVs and Laptops, according to the Journal. The company, which hasn’t had a profitable quarter in over a year, employs 45,000 people and has been in business for 59 years.
  16. for those looking forward to this stores Black Friday sales...you may want to rethink it...(not sure when liquidation starts...) link http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27240897/ copy/paste: Mervyns confirms reports of liquidation Battered chain says it will close all 149 of its remaining stores updated 1 hour, 22 minutes ago NEW YORK - Ailing department store chain Mervyns LLC, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July, said Friday that it plans to begin liquidation sales at its remaining 149 stores and wind down its business. The Hayward, Calif.-based chain said in a statement that after completing a thorough analysis of all available options, including a sale of the company, the board determined that holding liquidation sales during the holiday season was the best way to maximize value for the company's creditors. It also cited a challenging retail environment and declining liquidity as factors forcing the company's liquidation. Mervyns now operates mainly in California and has seen its sales drop further as the state is among the hardest hit by the real estate slump. Mervyns plans to pursue the liquidation under the Chapter 11 bankruptcy code, which typically allows companies to retain more control over the selling off of assets. The company said it intends to retain an outside professional services firm to assist in the liquidation sales of inventory. "We are disappointed with this outcome but the company's declining liquidity position and the extremely challenging retail environment, together with the fact that we have exhausted all other possibilities, requires that we take this action," said John Goodman, chief executive of Mervyns. "We are confident that the deep discounts available through going out of business sales will drive significant traffic in our stores." Mervyns' announcement marks the latest retail obituary and represents yet another blow to the nation's malls, which are grappling with increasing vacancy rates in a deteriorating economic environment. On Tuesday, specialty retailer Linens 'n Things, which filed for bankruptcy protection in May, announced it will begin liquidation sales at its stores as early as this week after failing to find a buyer that wanted to operate the company. Gadget retailer Sharper Image Corp., which filed for bankruptcy in February and eventually liquidated its stores, is seeking a new life as a wholesaler. It announced on Monday it signed a $540 million licensing agreement with manufacturer HoMedics to create gadgets to be sold in the U.S. and elsewhere. The big problem with Mervyns, a 59-year-old chain, was that it had been squeezed between high-end department stores and discounters like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Before its bankruptcy filing, Mervyns had been shuttering stores and leaving states such as Oregon and Washington since 2005, after a consortium of private equity players including Sun Capital Partners Inc. bought Mervyns from Target Corp. for $1.2 billion. In April, Mervyns appointed Goodman, who had been president and general manager of the Dockers brand — a key supplier to Mervyns — as president and chief executive. But the chain's heavy concentration in California has made a turnaround harder. Last month, Mervyns sued the private equity firms involved in the leveraged buyout of the chain from Target, alleging the deal stripped the retailer of its real estate assets, forcing it into bankruptcy. Mervyns said in the suit that the investment group, which included Cerberus Capital Management and Sun Capital Management, bought Mervyns in 2004, acquired its real estate and leased it back to the company at substantially increased rates. Mervyns says the increased rent was used to finance the buyout.

    Menards

for u in central ohio..theres one in marion, been open for a couple years now, and one just opened in Lancaster, or soon to open, and they will be building one where Northland Mall used to be here soon...i too love menards
  23. yes i agree...stores need to bring back the LAYAWAY system...especially with the economny the way it is now...wow!!...uhm most people wont even be able to get a credit card now... most of the stores i go to have all registers open...so if u arent a store that hasnt...get on the ball...u only need all the registers for a few hours...unless ur best buy or circuit city...lol our walmart has maps also for most of the bigger items/doorbuster items...this is a GREAT thing!!... think more stores need to price match....love walmart just for this...especially for the smaller items that are show picture get the price...i understand the bigger items and not price matching...but they need to price match...it would get more ppl in ur store and more sales ( was very disappointed in Meijers last year for not price matching that day...so they didnt get any of my business that weekend) ticket system is very awesome idea too...i know best buy does this...but all stores should do this to all items that they only have very very limited available... i actually like the items scattered around the store in various departments...because uu have a better chance of getting an item ( like the non-map ones of course)....plus this can help with more sales of non bf items as people are in territory that they probably havent been to and see something for gifts or something online sales!!!...i loved best buy for doing some of their items the day before...saved me a lot of hassle at the sotres and could do that in my pjs!!...and go to kmart/meijers on thanksgiving too...i love thanksgiving sales!...lol...ok i also agree that they should have multiple sales through out the day even having mystery sales in the store...like announce that hotwheels cars are 49cents right now ( 5 til 9am)...somethign like that...non-advertsised in the flyer but a couple items that may be wirth getting i love the idea of contests ..but instead of at the register...how about the line waiting to get in if u are waiting outside...( i have been finding myself going to a 24 hour walmart thats open...and getting my pricematching items and what i can find on sale throughout the store like around midnight...gives me plenty of tiem to scope the store to see where the items will be like the awesome priced dvds/cds...etc)...but if i were to be waiting for 5-6 hours or more outside the store should give out like 10 coupon off 100 purchase or even a 10 gift card ( or more, etc) outright or something to like the first person in line of course, and random pick or whatever. i know some stores do give their first group of customers a giftcard, but more stores need something to bring people in; even store giveaways in the store..they could give everyone a raffle ticket that enters the store..and at a certain time raffle an item off ( either to pay for or to be given away) i think the stores need even deeper pricing on items...lol..walmart to name an aexample sucked overall...( hence me pricematching...) i think it would be great if all employees dressed up as eleves or something to destinguish who are employees and who isnt to help with ur cause...lol...something that would tell ppl that hey i work here...(sucks for that employee, but i think it would help them out tremendously at the same time... stores need to open earlier...lol...yep i said it earlier...some stores are jumping opn it...but need the bigger stores to do that...24 hour sales...midnight thru 23:59...(well also the doorbuster time frame of course...but having a full 24 hours devoted to this day...nice! having black bags or bigger darker bags...so u can hide things easier i also agree with tthe security...1)outside, 2) line control...have a way to let the ppl that were waiting for hours/days to get in first than someone that just pulls up at 559, and walks, well gallop up to the door as they are opening and squeeze in and they are in...I HATE ppl that do that..and if i see them in the store i dont help them one bit..sorry i know thats mean..but its about rightness/fairness...etc... ok..im sure i can add more at a later time...this is driving we wild...I LOVE LOVE BLACK FRIDAY...and i try to plan better and better each year.. and it wouldnt be as great if it werent for this site...another way for the stores to improve their BF...EMBRACE THIS SITE STORES!!!! u have a market willing to shop your store if u are advertised on here, or allow ur leaked ad to remain on here..or just give it to us a week or so earlier ( if u dont want it out for a long period of time...)...U HAVE NOTHING NOTHING TO LOSE! everythign to gain...LISTEN to us...:) ( and if it is leaked or given to us...and it snot up to par..u can easily print out a double sided sheet for all ur stores to do and better ur ad/s!!! ok i am done for now...i hope this helps brad...:)
