  1. How about MobileRead? http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=209 Nooktalk? http://nooktalk.net/ Nookboards? http://www.nookboards.com/forum/
  2. A great starting place is the Barnes and Noble boards. http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/
  3. Sorry. Here... they do have Nook color covers. http://www.medgestore.com/products/nook2/
  4. If M-Edge has covers for the color, that is where I would look.
  5. Easy peasy to download, and pretty user friendly too http://calibre-ebook.com/
  6. It will be harder to read outside on the Nook color than the original Nook. The e-ink on the original is just like holding a book in your hand; the backlighting on the color is what makes it difficult to read outside.
  7. I get my warranties from Square Trade. There is usually a coupon code to be found, so search around before paying full price.
  8. The backgrounds color on the Nook color is adjustable - the salesperson at the store almost converted me from my original Nook when she showed me the sepia background. It looks very similar to the e-ink. I love my original Nook though and will be sticking with it for a while. I'm not sure that the Kindle outdoes the nook on everything - the Kindle can't borrow books from the library and it is only the most recent Kindle version that allows the book sharing that the Nook came with originally.
  9. I have one that I won't be using. PM me and I will send it on Edited to add: Claimed and sent.... Merry Christmas :)
  10. I got Best Buy to price match their website just a couple weeks ago. I forget what movie I went in there looking for, but it rang up like $30. I told they guy there were way overpriced and I would just go to Target. He pulled up Target and Best Buy's websites and gave me the bestbuy.com price, which was the cheapest.
  11. You did better than me. I couldn't even watch the whole movie.
  12. Awesome! I am so happy to not have to worry about this one.
  13. i think you will lose out. They will adjust to the sale price, but not give you your 10% again because your pass will be technically expired at that point.
  14. The description says in store only, beginning 11/26:yuck:
  15. Sideloading is when you borrow a book from the library, or purchase a book from other than B&N. You plug your Nook into your PC and drag the book to your Nook. It will show up in the My Documents folder on the Nook. For library books you will need to use Adobe Digital Editions. The book from the library will go there, and from there your Nook will show up as a drive to transfer the book. I tend to use ADE for all my sideload content just because I can organize it better. DRM is the digital rights management that stops you from loaning your ebook to your friends (like in iTunes you can't share your music). Honestly, for the best information check out the B&N message boards. I learned everything from there. They are a mean bunch if you ask a question that has been asked a million times already, so read a bit first There are a few prolific posters that have links in their sigs that will point you to the answer for most any question.
  16. The Nook book loaning does not work for any book, just the ones that the publishers allow. Also it is a 14-day one-time thing. I can't loan a book more than one time. I suspect if Amazon has sharing it will work the same way since it is publisher driven. Nook also has "social DRM" that allows more unlimited book sharing. If I want to share a book with my coworker, I email her the book file. She puts it on her Nook; when she opens the book it will ask for the last name and credit card number. It creates the DRM file and stores it, so any future books that I loan her will open right away because her Nook has my DRM code stored. I use calibre to format non-DRM books from other formats (I did a couple .lit the other day) to epub. I don't believe calibre will reformat DRM'd books. Anyhow, I use calibre as well as non Barnes and Noble ebook stores and sideload a lot of content. My daughter has a nook and they are both on one account. Since I don't necessarily want her to read everything I read, sideloading takes care of the problem very easily.
  17. Find out how much Amazon or Gamestop is offering on the titles you are looking at, then offer a couple bucks more.
  18. I doubt you would be able to go back and get the gift card. And if you have to return/rebuy, you will lose your 10% unless you wait and use the card for the rebuy.
  19. Even if you do get someone at the local store to tell you they will PM, I can see problems. If it isn't in writing from the store, if you don't get the same person, if you DO get the same person but they were told differently from when you talked to them. They aren't making it easy.
  20. Best Buy should do vouchers. Come outside with tickets and scanners. You want a television and a laptop? Okay, here are your tickets. Someone will be along to scan them for you in a few minutes and give you a payment voucher (or gift card). Take your ticket and your items to the register, scan the payment. That would certainly take care of a large part of the scalping problem.
  21. I hope they have some clarity on this beforehand. I do not want to be in line behind the person breaking their order up into 5 transactions trying to maximize their gift cards.
  22. Every single Target in my area has them in stock :) Even with that information, the manager would not verify its existence. In the end it won't matter. I was talking about it with DH last night and he says he won't waste money on the Westy. I didn't realize the one my son has in his room is a 37" Westy that is only a couple years old and has a lot of problems. I may take a look at the Super Target this weekend just for giggles. I can do a little pre-BF recon for other people.
  23. I'm not so sure about that. I think the local stores have a bit of latitude as far as their policy interpretation, especially since the corporate line I received in response to my email was very noncommittal. Anyhow, the Westy is not on the floor. No space for it in the display, no shelf tag. As far as the sales floor goes it is nonexistent.
  24. I stopped by the Target closest to me this afternoon. The manager there said that he can't say officially, but he believes that they will not be price adjusting for the 2-day sale because it will be considered a special event or something like that. He also, speaking in general terms of course, told me that if there were a 32" Westy for sale it would be in the main center aisle. There isn't even a spot for it in the display area. He said that they are getting rid of the Westinghouse brand and that if they have one in the ad it is likely a clearance price. And that not only would he not fight anyone to get one, he doesn't even think that set is worth standing in line for. YMMV, of course.
