  1. I'd look at that JBL Flip again....it's the Flip 4, two generations old. I'm frankly quite surprised WM has enough stock of the Flip 4 to include it in a BF advert...the Flip 5, what replaced it, was released in Aug. 2019, so that Flip 4 WM is boosting is OLD. Heck, the Flip 5 can be had for $69 at Amazon, and worth the extra $10 over this old one.
  2. Fact. I was going to wait for BF to purchase a TV. But I wasn't shopping for the cheapest TV out there, rather a specific TV...a 55" Samsung Q80. Glad I didn't wait for BF. Bought it from Amazon in Oct. for ~$200 cheaper than the current BF prices from Amazon, BB or WalMart. Finally ventured forth yesterday about noon...went out to pick up some stuff ordered online from BB and Lowe's. Lowe's had shoppers but parking lot only 1/4 full. Shoppers milling around but not crowded at all. Same with BB. Parking lot less than 1/2 full....shoppers inside milling about but many doorbusters still available. No real line at checkout. Got to WalMart....had to pick up some cat litter and dreading having to be there on BF. Amazingly, found a parking space almost in front of the doors. People inside but, again, many of the doorbusters were still there. On a whim, picked up one of the JBL bluetooth speakers for a friend. Was a $20 doorbuster but over a dozen left that I could see...maybe more, just didn't look closely. Sorta miss the days when CompUSA, Circuit City and Best Buy were all competing against one another with more ludicrous deals being released hourly by each leading up to the doors opening.
  3. Personally, for the same price, I'll take the Lowe's offering for a shop vac cheap....considering the Lowe's version has a stainless steel tank vs. the plastic tank on the HD version. The plastic will take up a smell over time that'll be difficult to remove while the stainless should resist that.
  4. Really do miss the days when BB, CompUSA, and Circuit City were competing against each other. Just remember the sales back then being more intense than what they are today. Case in point.....BB has the 55" Samsung Q80 TV for a BF price of $1299, $400 off retail. I was actively looking for that exact TV last month...glad I decided not to wait for BF. Bought it for $250 less than BB's BF price. Now, that Def Tech SuperCube 2000 is intriguing, but adding $100 to its $299 price gets you a vastly better sub....the RSL Speedwoofer 10s. ($399 direct from RSL) Vastly superior sub to anything listed in BB's BF ad. (The Klipsch need not apply and isn't in the conversation at all.)
  5. Dammit all to heck.....every year Lowes puts one of their outdoor storage sheds on sale, from $299 down to $199. Every year I tell myself next year. So, what happens? All ready to buy it this year and no storage shed on sale. Can't win for losing it seems. C'est la vie....maybe next year? LOL! This is what I'm referring to: https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-Common-5-ft-x-2-ft-Actual-Interior-Dimensions-4-1-ft-x-2-38-ft-Storage-Shed/1000664763
  6. The Apple TV+ streaming service is also being offered free for a year for people who are currently purchasing a new iphone....and not just the current iphone 11s. As for streaming, we cut the cord last spring. Using a combination of Samsung smart TVs and Roku devices. Tried Firesticks at first, but found the Roku devices were just less advert intrusive. Have three and the worst is the streaming Stick. Slow compared to our other two Rokus.....Stick+ and Ultra. The Stick is in a drawer. I like football so we wanted local channels and RedZone. Alas, no service has both. YouTube TV was closest as it had most all the channels we watched, outside NFL Network/RedZone. So also streaming Sling for football season. It'll get cut off after reg. season is over. Ran Sling and almost would try to keep it, but missing two of four broadcast network channels hurt its chances we'd keep it (OTA is almost a non-starter for us as three of the majors are ~60+ miles away).....and then add in no ability to pause live TV was the straw that broke Sling's back for us. And only 50 hrs. of DVR space that costs extra. And frankly, the picture Sling provides is many times noticeable worse than our other services, esp. when comparing the same channel, like ESPN, AMC, etc. to YouTube TV, for instance. YouTube TV.....pauses live TV for however long you want, unlimited DVR space at no extra cost, all the major broadcast networks. No, it's not quite as broad in its content as something like DirecTV, but it's about 1/4 the total cost (once you factor in box rentals, taxes and fees that seemingly increase every few months). Been quite happy with YouTube TV. We also have Netflix, HBO (about to drop it unless a miracle happens.....like it turns free), and Prime. See no need to return to cable. So we know have a free year of Apple TV. I'll drop it when it comes time to renew if it pans out like I think it will. Shall be investigating Disney TV, though. May take HBO's place.
  7. Don't know what verification system Amazon's using, but it rightly sux. I ETS'd in Dec. '79 after 7 years in. Yet, Amazon just cannot seem to find my vet. status anywhere. Odd....got the PX Exchange to verify me in what seemed like seconds. Amazon.....three tries on the website with only error messages.....email is just slow torture. Been waiting for hours for a verification response myself from Amazon. Lost in limbo.
  8. Meh.....might care more if there was a Sears anywhere within an hour of us. But every Sears within an hour's drive has closed over the last couple of years. Couldn't care less if I tried. C'est la vie....good shopping for those who still have one that's reasonably close.
  9. Link please, because BB specifically states this: Our Price Match Guarantee does not cover: ...items for sale the Sunday before Thanksgiving Day through the Monday after Thanksgiving, whether offered by Best Buy or a competitor. From this link: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/help-topics/best-buy-price-match-guarantee/pcmcat297300050000.c?id=pcmcat297300050000 (It's the last sentence of the last bullet point/items mentioned under "Our Price Match Guarantee does not cover" section.)
  10. Which models? Just asking because I just purchased a new 55" Samsung QLED TV this weekend. I saw LG OLED's on sale for $1100 all day, but it was the OLED55B8PUA model, which is a 2018 model. Same with the 65" (was $1800 for the 65B8PUA.) Bought a 2019 model year Samsung 55" Q80R for the same price as that 55" LG. I bought the Samsung specifically because there can be burn-in problems with OLED's. Given my viewing choices and habits, static images do sit for hours at a time, so thought it'd be a wiser choice to take the QLED over the OLED. Presonally, I gave up a couple of years ago chasing TV's on BF. Too much one-off junk specifically made for BF, with too many features sacrificed for price. And a quick review of the last few years of BF ads demonstrated high end TV's didn't drop much further in price on BF than had been offered in the weeks leading up to BF. That and I didn't want to wait for another 1 1/2 months to get it. C'est la vie. But good luck to all those seeking TV's this year. Hope you find exactly what you want.
  11. Never really had a budget per se, but my spending is adjusted by what we're looking to purchase. Lately it's been clothing so really never budget at all, just buy what we want/need. This year, however, I've budgeted ~$1200 for a new TV for the living room. Am specifically looking at OLED/QLED TVs. Probably 55". Don't want to have to "afford" an LED TV, but if I must, it'd probably be a Sony XBR-900/950 model. However, going back through the last few years' ads, OLED/QLEDs were in very short supply as far as BF sales go. Probably buy between now and BF. Prices are already dropping enough on some LG OLED's that I cannot imagine them getting any cheaper on BF. C'est la vie.
  12. LG's supposed to be good, as is Kenmore, Samsung, etc. In fact, from what I've heard/read, the brand to absolutely avoid in almost all appliances is Frigidaire/Electrolux. Horrid reliability. The main question I have about LG and Samsung is how the build out of their factory service tech network has progressed, as well as spare part availability. Have heard complaints here and there over time about poor/non-existent factory service techs, esp. from Samsung, and very sparse spare part availability causing long delays in getting repairs completed.
  13. Not every TV with “HDR” written on the box produces equally rich, lifelike images. First of all, TVs are all over the map when it comes to picture quality, HDR or no HDR. But there are also challenges specific to this technology. Most notably, a TV might not be bright enough to really deliver on HDR. The reason why is differences in sets' “nits,” the units used to measure brightness. Better-performing HDR TVs typically generate at least 600 nits of peak brightness, with top performers hitting 1,000 nits or more. But many HDR TVs produce only 100 to 300 nits. With an underpowered TV, the fire of a rocket launch becomes a single massive white flare. With a brighter television, you’d see tongues of fire and smoke, as if you were really there. The benefits of HDR are often lost with mediocre displays. Unfortunately, you can’t just read the packaging—or even rely on how the picture looks in the store. Instead, you have to do your won due diligence and research before buying.
  14. As an adjunct to this, I hate the price being offered "compared" to a fake MSRP or a price that's never used to actually sell the item. Hordes of XX% off "retail" or "MSRP" pricing when the "retail" or MSRP has never been a price that's been used to actually sell the item at any point. Dishonest at best.
  15. I wouldn't get too hung up on having a specific size of embroidery area as most decent machines can handle rehooping of the embroidery you're trying to do. If you have time, my wife can make some suggestions as to getting the best bang for buck for an embroidery machine, and it doesn't include Joann's for the most part, esp. since Joann's rarely has a testing area for using various machines prior to purchase.
  16. Check out BB's weekly ad for this week.....it's not the BF ad, but a whole lot more TVs on sale in it, for what that's worth. The prices are supposed to be good the 19th-25th. https://deals.bestbuy.com/?category=featured+deals Now, there are some deals in there. For instance, there's an LG 49" 6300 model for $329....by far the cheapest I've seen for that TV and almost cheap enough to entice me.....almost. As for your question.... There's a Samsung 65" 8500 TV for $1499 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-65-class-64-5-diag--led-curved-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range/5773708.p?skuId=5773708 A 65" 7000 for $1099 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-65-class-64-5-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range/5773836.p?skuId=5773836
  17. I'm about the furthest thing from being a videophile (much more into audio, actually), but personally I wouldn't even keep the Hitachi on a list with those other choices. I understand it's going in your bedroom, but do your eyes become less discerning when you enter the bedroom? (Don't answer that.....lol!) Myself, I'd look at the two Samsungs. They are almost identical except the 6290 gives up all Bluetooth connectivity and has a much more basic remote.....the remote is what may tip the balance towards the 6300 in my eyes. The LG's good, but I more favor the Samsung.
  18. The specs can be found for these here: (Expand full specs....found near bottom of page) 6490-- https://www.samsung.com/us/televisions-home-theater/tvs/4k-uhd-tvs/55--class-mu6490-curved-4k-uhd-tv-un55mu6490fxza/#specs 6500-- https://www.samsung.com/us/televisions-home-theater/tvs/4k-uhd-tvs/55--class-mu6500-curved-4k-uhd-tv-un55mu6500fxza/#specs What I noticed was the 6500 has Bluetooth, the 6490 doesn't, and the 6500 uses a color "engine" that's one step above the one in the 6490.
  19. Yeah, I saw that. I've just become a bit leery of "Only @" or "Exclusive to" products, esp. when the item's description/pricing/etc. just happens to show up on a seller's site just before the BF ad hits. Honestly, I'd rather buy a TV that's being sold already, just marked down, like the 6300. Hopefully, I know what I'm getting, picture-wise. And that $399 MU6070...it is tempting, but it gives up Bluetooth and has a color engine not used by any other set. And while you can search up the model, it doesn't appear in any of Samsung's "normal" TV lineup. But it's tempting, for what I'm looking for.
  20. Just curious.....want a 50"-55" TV for my "office". Looking to spend no more than $550. I will avoid TV's from Sharp, Toshiba, TCL, Westinghouse, Element, Insignia, et al, for the most part. From what I've seen at BB, Target, Newegg, Amazon, etc., the Samsung UN50MU6300 appears to fit my wants pretty close. $424 from Newegg (although I wish it was avail. for that price almost anywhere else). Any better suggestions? Did see an LG 55UJ6540....its HDR seems to work a bit better than the Samsung above, but its price is almost $600 and doubt it's going on sale.
  21. A T757 v2 powering a pair of Paradigm Studio 60's. Few years old now, bought new. Rather enjoy them.
  22. I auditioned one of those when I bought my NAD. It was nice but....
  23. For those who've already tried to see their store's map and failed, go back and try again. I, too, tried when I first read the post and failed. Nothing but a video commercial emploring me to download and install the Walmart app on my phone to see the map. But I tried again yesterday evening and lo and behold, a map did come up for our little Walmart which serves a town of approx. 4500. So I figure it was just slow in getting made functional via the website. I'd suppose if there's a map for our store, Walmart probably has a store map for any of their stores.
  24. It's been rumored that several, if not more than a few, HiSense TV models this year are nothing more than rebadged Sharp televisions, which makes some sense as Hisense did purchase Sharp's TV production.
  25. Remember, almost all of the outlet merchandise is produced specifically for that selling venue. So much of what's sold in outlet stores isn't directly comparable to the actual stores' retail outlets.
