  1. Why should they have to match the online price? There's a reason the price is usually lower. There isn't the overhead on online items as there is for in-store items. They add trucking costs, wage costs, theft costs, etc, all gets passed on to the customer in the store pricing.
  2. Everyone for themselves....Pallet on floor by midnight...Supposed to have employees "carefully open" the pallet at midnight...not a chance...lol! :) Can anyone saw BF of years past all over again?
  3. Ok everyone...I just asked the management. If you read the ad all the items available at 5am are mostly electronics, if not all electronics. The only exception in electronics that is being released at midnight are the video games, music, and DVDs. Everything else AS STATED in the ad, will be released at midnight...They were scrambling at my store with the new announcement. I was told, EVERYTHING will be set at midnight, although there will be Q lines for the 5am items. The only issue I see is most of your overnight staff is not trained to cashier and those are the ones who will be cashiering on the midnight sale, so watch for a headache there. My gut feeling after talking with most of the management is expect a headache like a few years back before they did the line Q's. I expect a madhouse at midnight. People are already planning on lining up at 6pm on Thanksgiving. But bottom line, You can buy all midnight items at midnight. Line up in Q lines for wristbands or tickets for 5am items. Once all tickets are handed out then it sounds like you're free to wander wherever or even leave and come back at 5am.
  4. As far as I know, I'm double-checking tomorrow, most of the midnight sale items will be wrapped. Then once midnight rolls around an associate will unwrap the pallet. However, in years past, the associate never gets to unwrap the pallet, it's usually the customers that get to it first, lol!
  5. I'll get the info the best I can tomorrow. Even if I get the info, I have noticed some managers treat the home office advice like the Constitution. It can be interpreted many different ways...lol:)
  6. I was looking at this model the other day at our store...You're right, it does not stream Netflix. It's kind of sad, they call it a "Internet Application BluRay Player" and it has very few usable apps on it. It's almost like they took the Netflix off of it to cheapen it a bit.
  7. Please read my thread "BF Advice..." The whole purpose of this midnight sale is that you can buy the midnight items at...wait for it...MIDNIGHT. You can buy the midnight items anytime after midnight. Only items you can't buy at midnight are of course the 5am items. Load up on all the midnight items you want, take a breather, get a wristband, enjoy the fun.
  8. That's a good one! I wil find out tomorrow from the management team about this and post on my "BF advice" thread.
  9. There is a city in our area that won't allow retailers to open before 6am! Imagine the confusion at that store. "Attention shoppers, our midnight sale won't start until 6am". Ha ha :)
  10. Emily, WM kind of released all this BF info at once and it was a scramble once Target released there ad. Even though most of the planning has been in the works for awhile, it still is learn as you go thing this year, lol! I tell you what, I am off today, but I will find out for sure tomorrow when I go in and post it to this thread. As far as I know and the logical (WM doesn't do logical sometimes) thing would be you can get a wristband and move on...but I will find out for sure.
  11. Hey everyone, I've been reading through the posts on here and there are a ton of repeat questions regarding WM BF this year. I'm going to try and sum it up here the best I can and hopefully we can reduce some board clutter. Walmart this year announced an "Open House" which starts at midnight. This is much different than years past. If you read the ad there are "5am Doorbusters" and items that start at 12:01am. Walmart is opening most of its stores at midnight (if they're not already open) for this sale. As a BF shopper, you can walk into WM after midnight and buy any of the "midnight sale" items at that time. There is no need to wait around until 5am to pay for them. You're free to do whatever you'd like after midnight. The only thing you cannot do is buy the 5am doorbusters. WM will have staffing available for you to purchase items after midnight, so don't worry. As for the doorbusters. There will be numbered balloons with associates near them throughout the store where each doorbuster is being passed out. Look for "Line-up here" type signs for those items. Each item corresponds with a specific inventory number/wristband. At 5am those in line with the wristbands will receive the item they hae a wristband for. As for store operating hours. All WM stores will be open at midnight. There are some stores that never close, so they will be open. There are some stores that close for Thanksgiving, they will open at midnight. However, with that being said, you need to check with your local store for its hours. Some states have weird and quirky laws about store opening times. Make sure you check with your local store manager to find out for sure. Walmart.com has a map that you can print out that will tell you where the 5am items will be located. Check that out before you go. To sum it up: *Midnight sale items can be purchased ANYTIME after midnight. *5am items, can only be purchased at 5am. *Check with your local store for operating hours. *HAVE FUN THIS YEAR!
  12. Not sure if it is. I was just walking through the store and saw a whole stackbase of them under a $65.00 sign.
  13. The WHOLE PURPOSE of this "Open House Midnight Sale" is exactly that. You can buy all the non-doorbuster midnight-sale items starting at midnight...take them to your car, go home, wait around, do whatever you want. The only things you CANNOT buy at midnight are the 5AM items. Anything else is fair game, that's the whole purpose of this midnight sale:)
  14. Unless you are at a 24-hour store that doesn't close on Turkey Day you can have your Thanksgiving at WM, lol :) I see your point on the lines...
  15. LY we had a ton, until someone impersonating an employee walked out with a few boxes worth...sad But we should have a ton as we usually do!
  16. It's hard to say, I remember a similar two-day type event a few years back, and it was busy but not "chaos". I think it should be OK, it just depends on your area.
  17. Yeah, I don't know why they have such a hard time clarifying simple things like this. It should go very smooth, people that wanna stay for the doorbusters are likely going to be hanging around and driving us loss prevention guys crazy for five hours until 5am, lol, just kidding, and the people that just want the midnight items will be long gone :)
  18. Elena, That way they draw you in two days. You know you're not just going to buy the TV on Saturday. WM is hoping you get stocking stuffers, wrapping paper, etc. :)
  19. I've seen the $65 LG player you're talking about at my store already for sale on a stackbase.
  20. Here's the catch... WM price matches. However, most BF items, Walmart tells the manufacturer of the item, "Ok, we want to sell this laptop for $298, take a few features off of it, and we'll sell it on BF for $298". The manufacturer tweaks a few things, removes a few items, changes the model number, changes the UPC code and it no longer is the same item to them, lol!
  21. Well, If you read the ad as it is stated, there are tons of items for sale at midnight. The only thing you cannot get at midnight are the 5am items. But a majority of the other stuff, as stated in the ad is available for sale at midnight. That's why it starts at midnight.
  22. There will be NUMBERED helium balloons corresponding to a specific 5am item. There will be associates handing out wristbands or tickets at that line. As much as people think it's going to be another mad house, I think this will work out better, now hear me out doubters :) Last year they had a similar plan but they lumped everything into the 5am sale, so you had EVERYONE lined up for EVERYTHING at 5am. This year, you can buy the non-doorbusters items at midnight. My theory is some people don't come for the big ticket items, they like the small items like jeans and games, so most of those people will get those items and leave. Then you'll have the people remaining for the big ticket items. I think it will end up much better than in the past.
  23. Firstladyberg, I'm trying to get this info out to save people time. I work for WM and here is the scoop. As stated in the press release the "Open House" begins at 12:01am BF. You can purchase the 12:01 sale items at that time. NO NEED TO WAIT TIL 5AM TO BUY THE NON-DOORBUSTERS :) YAY YAY YAY. All the 5am items will be placed strategically with line markers and employees nearby. EVERY store whether 24 hour or non-24 hour will open at midnight*** ***As BigJim mentioned and the press release mentioned, you need to check with your local store. Some stores have WEIRD laws regarding store opening times. Just call a manager at your store and ask. Every manager knows when they're opening by now, so if they say they don't know, they're full of it.
  24. And it shouldn't vary as much as it used to. ALL stores get the same Black Friday instructions (with some exception to high traffic/high theft stores).
  25. I work for Walmart and work with the planning for "The Event" as WM likes to call it now. Planning SHOULD (I say should because it's up to management) have begun in late September. Basically, most of you have mentioned it and hit it on the head: 24-Hour Stores will of course be open. You can wander around and buy anything except doorbusters. This year WM will have a sale that also starts at Midnight. You can pick up those items and buy them or just keep them in your cart. At 5am, the doorbusters will be released for sale. Doorbusters will be marked with giant numbered helium/mylar balloons. Each store SHOULD have maps telling customers what number belongs to what item. Customers will line up in the numbered line they choose and will be given wristbands and a number. That number will guarantee you a doorbuster item. Each doorbuster has a tight inventory count/associated with a wristband. So, there will only be wristbands given out for the exact number of items for that line. The lines should be spaced enough to avoid clumping in a certain area. TVs in the automotive bays (or garden center), computers in grocery, etc. I'm not familiar with the planning for the non-24 hour stores, but I have heard they will open at 12:01am on Black Friday. That's all I am aware of on those stores. Now I would talk (if at all possible to a store manager). Many store managers try to follow what is asked of them by corporate but some managers have their own take on certain instructions (which is why some stores seem to be chaotic and unorganized). I don't know why this occurs because there is a pretty well laid out plan for Black Friday and it's pretty self explanatory in my opinion. I think it just boils down to the fact some stores care more than other stores about how it goes down. I think for the most part, the new system works when people know what's going on and management informs customers as well. With 8,400 stores and growing, I'm sure there are a few glitches in some areas.
