  6. I have done Black Friday 30ish weeks pregnant. Two years ago,I did it three days after having my youngest (I did just hit a few stores that year since I was nursing, but one of them was Wal-Mart), so I wouldn't think twice about doing it pregnant, unless you have to travel over an hour away and are at the very end of your pregnancy or are at increased risk for preterm labor (which I was with all of mine).
  7. I make a photo calendar with pictures of my kids every year for my mother in law for Christmas, she says it is her favorite gift.
  8. Do you have a Hastings nearby? They have great collections of older movies for $3.50- I got my Gram a set of 20 westerns (she loves westerns) and my mom a set of 15 Alfred Hitchcock movies. They had all kinds though, very good selection if you are looking from anything from the 1940s to the early 2000s.
  9. Ours always has a big ad in the paper on Thanksgiving for black friday. I don't remember any of the deals from last year, but I do remember there were several things I bought and I hardly spent anything.
  10. We buy real trees. We always get the 6'+ Douglas firs at Lowe's, they really aren't that expensive, and if you water it, it does not really shed much, and they smell so good that they are totally worth it. It is a family tradition to go and look at all the trees and pick one out. Hubby says they are coming in Monday of Thanksgiving week this year, and since Wednesday is my youngest dd's birthday, it sounds like a great day to pick out a tree to me
  11. We have several strands of LED lights, we also have the traditional ones as well (traditional on the house, LEDs on the trees, driveway and around the garden). I do like the LED ones a lot, we would probably have all LED ones but we have not been able to find all orange ones to do the house in (we are big OSU fans),and it took me years to collect all the traditional bulbs to do it in orange. The LED ones do not melt the snow though, so if you have them like around the ground (like we do around our garden),they will glow underneath the snow, which is pretty cool. The best deals we got on ours has been from Lowe's and from after Christmas clearance at Wal-Mart. Ours have not faded at all, but neither have our traditional ones (we have trees surrounding our house that keep it shaded almost all day). I do not know if it has saved on our electric bill or not since my husband keeps adding more and more of everything every year
  12. I am honestly disappointed in this year's ads so far. Other than one video game at Toys R Us, there is nothing that I really need. I might get a doll for my daughter from Target if they happen to have one when I get there and possibly a shirt for my husband, but other than that the only reason I will be going out is that it is tradition, I will just be along for the ride with my sisters and mom. My husband does Wal-Mart every year, so he is really hoping they have something,if not he will just sleep in.
  13. Big Lots has lots of the accessories for fairly cheap, cheapest I have seen them anywhere.
  14. The cheap almond bark at Wal-Mart tastes just as good, I actually prefer it on some things.
  15. I often just use the pretzel twists, dip them in white almond bark mixed with a little bit of peppermint extract, then sprinkle crushed candy cane on top of them. My husband is already eagerly anticipating my first batch this year.
  16. My kids wrote their official Santa lists a couple of days ago. They ask for their top five things that they want, and what is funny is that the most expensive thing on either of their lists was a DS game that went on sale at GameStop a couple of months ago for $10. Santa informs me that he already has all of their top five wishes too that he has collected through the year :)
  17. We had that barbie camper too! Still have it at my parents' house in their garage. I could be done with shopping for my kids', but I don't even kid myself that is the case. I just have to buy for two nieces and four names we draw at Thanksgiving of extended family, then my husband has to pick out presents for his dad and sister in law (I did his nieces, mother and brother, I told him the rest was up to him), so I would say 85% done.
  18. I would dress up as a giant pink bunny. It would be nice and warm, and everyone would stop and stare because who expects to see a giant pink bunny on Black Friday, then I could just go in and get the deals while they all shook their heads and thought I was crazy.
  19. Two years ago at Wal-Mart, when they pulled back the ropes, there was a fist fight for the laptops (they had only gotten in eight, which wasn't smart to start with in a college town), we were not after the laptops, but a cabbage patch doll for my daughter, which were right next to the laptops. As soon as they pulled back the ropes though, people dove for the laptops, which set off a fist fight (police were called in), one man punched another and sent him reeling into the cabbage patch dolls, which all went flying into the air. One happened to land in my husband's hands, so he took it and ran...turned out to have the same name as my daughter, it was like fate.
  20. Peppermint Bark 1 pkg while almond bark 1 tsp peppermint extract 12 peppermint candy canes crushed Melt the almond bark in the microwave according to directions on package. Mix in peppermint extract and crushed candy canes. Pour mixture onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and place in the freezer for 15 minutes. Remove from freezer, break bark into pieces and enjoy! I also often mix the melted almond bark with the peppermint extract, dip pretzels into it, sprinkle them with crushed candy cane and dry them on wax paper.
