My dad made a wooden sleigh with a jigsaw sometime in the late 40's for holding Christmas cards, and it always sat on a table next to the front door. It's painted red with silver rails, and about 12" X 9" X 12" tall. My dad died when I was 2 so I don't remember him, but I cherish this sleigh since it's my only connection to him. It was passed down to me when my mother died, and I'll pass it on to my daughter. Hopefully it will still be intact when my granddaughter gets it. Some family heirloom, huh? When you grow up poor strange things take on great significance.

We used to tell our kids that if they weren't interested in getting an education they'd better learn to say, "You want fries with that?" Now it's more likely they'll be saying, "Paper or plastic?"

Reviews say it's a new brand to be sold in discount stores in February, created by Justin Allen who produces private label apparel for Target. Claims no animal testing, natural ingredients, and they contribute to women's health charities Lupus & Breast Cancer. I'll try it when they restock the mascara and cheek blush - for what I spend on cosmetics this is a steal.

Other stores have difficulty offering competitive prices because 70% of Wal-Mart merchandise is outsourced oversees @ 18 cents/hr. vs. $10+/hr. here. I shop at Wal-Mart regularly and enjoy the savings. But I also have friends who hand out anti-Wal-Mart flyers in their parking lots, and who belong to Wal-Mart Watch, a well organized group with facts to back up their critcism. They aren't out to close Wal-Marts, just make them more accountable to their employees. If you weren't aware of the controversy, these two trailers from the documentary explain a little:Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price and Confessions of a WalMart Hit Man (long but interesting). All that said, I'll continue to shop there - while my friends try and help the employees.

I sent in a picture of my coffee pot with a flower in it, and got the Senseo 3 weeks later. They sent a confirming e-mail, but I don't remember when. Someone gave me tips to save $ on the Senseo pods - make your own with EcoPods (Ebay) and your own coffee using the Expresso setting on the grinder at the grocery store. The coffee is better than the Senseo pods. Also, other pods do fit - see SingleServeCoffee.com.

I just ordered 16 books (mostly hard cover, 1 w/DVD, and 2 w/plush toys) for $20.59 shipped. I've ordered from them before and got the books quickly. Shipping is cheap. Great site - even for adult books.

I always chose Christmas Eve over BF because it wasn't as busy, and shoppers were mostly men who appreciated any sales help. However, the days following either holiday were a nightmare of rude people making returns for all the junk they bought that they didn't need. The worst were those who argued because, without a receipt, we could only give them the final markdown price and a store credit. They wanted cash on the original price, and that's when we knew the item had probably been shoplifted. We were working long hours for just over minimum wage - it made me sick. I've treated sales clerks with respect ever since.

Me too. No commercials! We leave it on all day - it's our weird family tradition, but all ages love it.

This is my view too. Before bots people complained about those bidding at the last minute, now we complain about bots. I've been outbid this way, but (like today) I've been pleasantly surprised with last minute bids for something I thought wasn't going to sell. Before long someone will find a way to outsmart the bots.

Joann's is great for end of season buys. I get dozens of plain handle bags and rolls of fancy ribbon at 75% off and use them all year long. For guests at Christmas I use gift bags & tissue paper to save time and back pain, eliminate cleanup, and everyone can carry home their stuff easily. I just tie a bow on the handle. Unfortunately this isn't practical for bulky things... but I'm working on that. My husband gets all his packages wrapped because he's a big baby and pouts if they're not.

I know it's early to be thinking of this, but for those who plan ahead... Have your cards postmarked from one of almost 100 cities or towns with holiday-themed names—such as Bethlehem, PA or Rudolph, OH. Just follow these easy steps to have your cards arrive from somewhere special: Write out your greeting cards, address & stamp them. Put them all in one large envelope or box labeled “Holiday Greeting Card Re-Mailing”, addressed to the Postmaster of the town where you would like your cards postmarked (see LIST). You will have to put First Class Postage on this envelope/box for mailing to your selected post office. Mail early so your cards can be postmarked, re-mailed, and delivered in time for the holidays. Most cards received by the holiday Post Office location by Dec. 14 will be delivered by Dec. 25.
