  1. sometimes we never know how appreciated a gift is.. until recently i would have said a calendar and on every month i taped a gift card..

    BUT ...that changed .....

i recently was talking to a woman who did not expect to win her latest battle against cancer. she sent  a picture of a plant i brought her when she was in the VA hospital and i went to see her. She still has the plant and it has beautiful flowers.  she expressed to someone how much that plant meant to her, through out all of her treatments. She mentioned that it is now called her peace plant. as she stated so many times that looking at the plant brought peace to her .. THAT is now the best gift i ever gave!

  2.  instead of the reg. mashed potatoes.. these taste GREAT....

actually i had some friends who had farmers food boxes and a ton of sour cream, potatoes and onions .. so i had them try this.. and i am now making it myself on thanks giving after tasting theirs

    INSTRUCTIONS

    • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
    • Place cut potatoes into a large pot and fill with water so that it is just covering potatoes by 2 inches. Bring to a boil.
    • Once boiling, add 1 tbsp of the salt and continue to boil until potatoes are fork-tender, about 10 minutes.
    • Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium heat with 2 tbsp of the butter. Add onion and garlic then cook, stirring, until the onions are tender, 4 to 6 minutes.
    • When potatoes are tender, strain and let steam escape a the colander for about 5 minutes, allowing excess water to drain [this prevents the potatoes from not tasting watery].
    • Place potatoes in a large bowl and add the sour cream, white vinegar, chicken broth, pepper, 1/4 cup of the chives, and 2 tbsp of butter.
    • Using a potato masher, mash until potatoes are your desired consistency. [For this recipe, I prefer mine a little lumpy.]
    • Once mashed, stir in the onion mixture with black pepper and 2 tsp of kosher salt.
    • Add the potatoes into an oven-safe dish and sprinkle with cheese.
    • Place into the oven, uncovered until cheese is lightly browned, 10 to 15 minutes.

    INGREDIENTS

    • 3 lb russet potatoes, peeled and cut
    • 1 tbsp + 2 tsp kosher salt
    • 4 tbsp salted butter
    • 2 cups yellow onion, thinly sliced (or one medium onion)
    • cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 tsp white vinegar
    • 1 cup low-fat sour cream
    • 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth,( i use a boulion cube)
    • 1/2 tsp freshly cracked pepper
    • 1/2 cup mild cheddar cheese
  3. Ok new to the Kohl's game.  We don't have one anywhere close by but I was approved for a Kohl's card yesterday.  I saw where they had the Barbie dreamhouse  for $199 with $60 Kohl's cash back.  Does it make it a good deal?  Does Kohl's cash spend like regular cash or does it have lots of exclusions?  I was thinking I could spend the $60 on her some clothes for Christmas.  Or should I try to find the dreamhouse cheaper elsewhere (Sam's Club has it for $175 now)?

not only it can expire. but it does not work with discount codes. the kohls cash comes off THEN the discount.is applied.

  4. i have most years. one year i was over board as i let someone who normally does a HUGE display do it on my lawn and use an extra 2 rooms for storage of his xmas decorations as he was moving and would not be able to set his display in the old place .. he normally collects food and donations as part of his work. this year nothing set up yet. and not sure what we will set up

  5. is it just me? i am finding it not as fun, or hard to get into the shopping this year. maybe because its starting earlier?

that said i have made a few purchases, but normally i am excited to do so. not this year. and its not for financial reasons.

and certainly not cause life is to busy, as this pandemic makes it just the opposite.

    hopefully in time it improves.!

    anyone else feel this ?
