Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2011
kansasteacher replied to Brad's topic in Offline Hot Deals
Sarasuzymama - Which KC store is going to be remodeled? I shop primarily at Legends KC, Shawnee Mission, Overland Park, and Olathe, but sometimes I get to other KC stores as well. -
Taking kids out Black Friday shopping all night
kansasteacher replied to Rockfordmom's topic in 2011
The most worrisome situation with kids that I saw this BF? I was in Wal-Mart at "unwrap" time (10PM)... after I'd grabbed a couple of Lego sets and was exiting the regular toy aisles (which is where I had to go to find the $20 Tag reader), I ran into two girls - on probably around 6, the other maybe 9 - and the older girl was the younger girl's "babysitter." The parents/adults/whoever were nowhere near, because I heard the older girl say, "Let's go look for your mom over by the clothes..." The Wal-Mart I was in was crazy-packed; in fact, I heard that a fight broke out over bikes and someone punched someone else and was subsequently arrested. Who let's two young elementary-aged girls walk around alone together in the middle of THAT? -
celestiaann - I had to place three seperate orders to get all the games I wanted... but even with paying shipping fees the prices were below any going deals in the stores. Tarams - I stayed up until the sale went live last night to get the games I wanted... I was worried that they would sell out quickly. They probably won't get them back in before the 4 day sale is over. If you're willing to brave it, Target has them on Black Friday for $14.99 each, which is still a pretty good deal.

Yeah, I was thinking that if you took your time and used a black Sharpie marker, you could easily cover most of the pink/purple around the corners/edges. My two boys - 8 and 5 - would NOT play with it, even though the amount of pink/purple is very small. But, as the other person mentioned, it's a FREE LeapPad, which you can barely find in the stores right now, even if you were willing to pay the $99.
-
nisha98 - Yesterday I opened up the LeapPad I bought for my youngest son (I want it to be playable as soon as he opens the box on Christmas). The downloadable apps are different from the games that are available on the cartridges. Several of the cartridge games are available as downloads (you have to pay for them - full price, $25), but that would just take up memory space on the device that you could use for other downloadable content that is not available on the cartridges (eBooks, videos, etc.). Since the cartridges on this particular sale are sooooo affordable, I bought several for my son, that way there's room to download other stuff later, when I see what features he likes best. Rianistar - NO. Leapster Explorer games do NOT work on the Leapster 2. The Explorer cartridges are slimmer - they will only work on the LeapFrog Explorer or the LeapFrog LeapPad tablet.

LAST DAY! Pre-Black Friday Deals 11/20 - 11/23 @ toysrus.com
kansasteacher replied to elite2058's topic in Online Hot Deals
I was able to order the LeapFrog games, but there is a limit of 2 per customer. I had to check out three separate times to get the 6 games I wanted. This meant, of course, that I had to pay shipping each time. Still, it beats trying to fight the crowd at Target on BF. -
LAST DAY! Pre-Black Friday Deals 11/20 - 11/23 @ toysrus.com

I, too, am considering staying up until midnight to shop... My husband is stationed overseas, and it seems to defeat the purpose of a sale to pay a babysitter so that I can get to Toys R Us when they open in the morning (it's a 35 minute drive, too, so the time for the sitter really adds up). I've gone ahead and added the items to my cart, and I'll see what happens at the stroke of 12. And, speaking of time, does anyone know if it's midnight no matter what time zone you're in? Or since I'm in the central time zone, will the online sale start at 11 for me? -
Usually I'm on the look out for good deals on toys on BF, but not this year. I've looked over the ads, and none of the stores really have "deals" on the stuff that my kids want this year. Like others have posted, I also look for clothing deals (especially winter coats and pjs) for my kids, and sometimes for myself or extended family. This year, for the first time, I'll be trying to pick up some inexpensive DS or Wii games, since my oldest son is getting a DS and they are jointly receiving a Wii from my parents. Since they have zero games to start with, whatever is on sale that I think they might enjoy will be on my list.

Official Black Friday TABLET & E-READER Discussion Thread
kansasteacher replied to Brad's topic in 2011
My parents went to Best Buy on Tuesday to purchase a Kindle Fire for me for Xmas. They also decided to buy one for my older sister. Quite unexpectedly, they received a $50 Best Buy giftcardd with each purchase... so they ended up walking out with 2 Kindle Fires for basically only $150 each. Crazy. -
I think the best DSiXL deal you'll find is going on right now at Toys R Us. I picked one up on Sunday for my DS8. You get the DSiXL console pre-loaded with two BrainAge games, plus you get a Mario/DonkeyKong DS game in the bundle AND a $25 TRU giftcard. I wasn't seeing anything better than that, so I hurried on over and grabbed one.

Thank you, Brad! :)

lilrarasmama - I think you'll discover Imaginext are great toys. They are definitely sturdy and they allow the boys to use their imaginations for creative play. My boys are now about to be 9 and 6... they BOTH still play with the Imaginext sets that we kept (I sold about 1/2 of what we had over the summer, and told them there would be NO MORE new sets in the house). This year they both had sad little puppy dog faces when they saw the new Imaginext sets that had been released... I consoled them, of course, by pointing out all the cool bigger-boy toys they could put on their wish list instead.

What Day will the ads Actually be in the Newspaper?
kansasteacher replied to andreah1's topic in 2011
I always get both Wednesday and Thursday's papers... Wednesday's will have the K-Mart Thanksgiving Day, and sometimes a few others. All the rest will be in Thursday's paper. -
I can't really offer advice about whether or not it's "worth it" to get to TRU early and wait in the horrible lines, but I can tell you that the price in the BF ad is probably the best one you'll find, either before or after BF. I spent many years shopping deals on Imaginext... I'm thankful that this year we are beyond that. :)
-
Really, Brad? "..." That's all you have to say??? *sigh* Although, I notice that the gottadeal servers aren't functioning very well this morning... could that mean some things are about to show up? Maybe K-Mart? Maybe Toys R Us?... Something, anything? Please????

My husband and I each use credit cards regularly. For many of the reasons named above, I prefer not to carry cash. I put nearly all of our montly expenses on my Discover card, my husband using his Visa. This year I was able to roll our rewards into a combined total of $600 dollars worth of gift cards at Target, Kohl's, and K-Mart. That $600 will take care of a large portion of my holiday shopping this year. Since we pay off our credit card balances each and every month, this $600 is like "free money."

I have the bumblebee pillow pet for myself, and I use it to rest my book/arms on while reading in bed. My boys each have one, and they are 5 and 8, and they LOVE them.
-
I'm waiting for this one as well. So far, I've seen one or two items I might want at Target, maybe a few more than that at Wal-Mart, and a big maybe on one from Best Buy, although I usually avoid that store on BF. But I always manage to make it to K-Mart for something on Thanksgiving Day, and then again on BF. The K-Marts near me are never super-crowded, and I almost always get every item on my list there. So... where are those two ads???
-
I agree with those who have suggested the travel coffee mugs, reusable water bottles, pens, and shopping bags. These are items that I would use all year long, not just on BF.

Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2010
kansasteacher replied to Brad's topic in Offline Hot Deals
LovetoshopCA: I would guess that "re-wrap" is what your particular store's markdown team calls the items that get opened or separated (for example, a pajama top that gets separated from its bottom). When I worked @Target when I was in college we would have to re-label/re-package certain kinds of items to be put out on the clearance shelves. It sounds like your store has stopped doing that. So you probably won't see, for example, an opened package of AA batteries with only 3 remaining marked down on a clearance shelf. -
** Target 4-Day Pre-Black Friday (11/21 - 11/24) Sale Ad Posted **
kansasteacher replied to Brad's topic in 2010
I called my local Target to check on price adjustments for this ad, too. The guest service girl I spoke with said that yes, they can price adjust with a receipt, but she wasn't sure how the register would respond to price adjusting for the Leapfrog Tag B1G1 books. She asked when I planned to come in for my price adjustment and I said first thing Sunday... she said she'd be working and if it didn't work she'd let me "return" and then rebuy the Tag books I bought today. :) -
I just asked a "source" who is a K-Mart assistant manager... it looks like K-Mart has been keeping the ad a secret even from store management; he says he thinks it will be visible beginning Tuesday of this coming week.

Will there be a TRU Fri/Sat sale this weekend???
kansasteacher replied to kansasteacher's topic in Offline Hot Deals
Thanks for the replies... I had been checking, too, and what do you know, there it is now! -
Does anyone have any information on a Toys R Us weekend sale this weekend? I know they typically do that on the weekends leading up to BF and, I think, through Christmas. Anyone with advanced info? Will there be a 2 day sale for tomorrow?
-
Maybe someone has mentioned it already, but I missed it... Will the 10PM doorbusters be available online? I see two or three items that I'd like to get, and I don't have any issue placing an order at 10PM on Thanksgiving from the comfort of my bedroom...
