  1. I usually go to Staples first. Get there around 5am. Here they pass out tickets and let people file in the store in a single line. All the doorbusters are laid neatly on tables and marked. It's all very civilized. Unlike Wal*Mart and BB, where I probably will be this year.
  2. Thanks for the model number and specs. I like Toshiba's better than HP's and the freebie's are a nice addition. Can't wait to see what Circuit City has now. Are there any rebates involved with the CompUSA deal?

I seem to remember CompUSA doing their BF items online. At least I think they did two years ago. I can't remember last year.

  3. I think the stores' main complaint (other than being embarassed when these get leaked so early) is that people won't buy as much before BF (when they stand to make more $) if they know a better deal is coming.

That arguement doesn't do much for me either. In our house ALL our big ticket items and 90% of the electronics get bought on Black Friday, by me. DH always has to work. I knew what I would be looking for last year, so we could budget for it. Tonight, we just discussed what we should be looking for next year, ('06), based on what is likely to be at the end of it's life at that time.

The only exceptions to this rule are any sales tax holidays. On them we replace stuff that isn't likely to make it to BF.

Knowing what is on sale where, helps me plan my shopping day quickly and easily. For example, last year when Wal*Mart's BF "sale" was so awful, I knew to focus my attention on other stores.

I think DH and I are retailer's worse nightmare anyway. We buy needs, not wants or fads. We always shop sales, coupons, seconds, don't buy extended warranties, sometimes layway and pay with cash/debit. So the bank doesn't like us either. :D

  4. BF isn't BF without:

    1. Being on the highway at 2am to drive to an area where the stores are more concentrated.

    1. Coffee at 2:30am

    2. Freezing to death waiting outside at some store.

    3. Talking the car and not worrying how DH is getting to work. (He gets a ride.)

    4. Being on the phone with my girlfriend at mid-night without either of us wanting to get off the phone. (We keep each other awake.)

    5. Having the floor of the van littered with circulars.

    6. Having a HUGE smile when I get home with what we needed, but, sighing because it is over for another year.

  5. Hi:

I was here last yeat, but didn't post. This will be my seventh BF. My best tips? Get there early, 3:30 am is not too early. Bring a friend, coffee, a small chair, (You will have to ditch it about 45 minutes before the store opens, that's why you need a friend to hold your place in line.), and all your sales circulars. If you live in a cold climate, dress warmly and bring a hat, gloves, scarf and ear warmers with you. A light blanket will not hurt either.

And the ulitimate tip, I learned last year from my best friend, use the blanket, chair, coffee and circulars to make friends with the people in front and directly behind you in line and they will glady use them and hold your place in line, while you wait in the car, nice and warm! LOL
