    Need ideas for a gift exchange

    My family has been discussing what to do for christmas as far as gifts go, and it seems to be that they would like to do something like white elephant..but real gifts and not gag gifts..

     

    the problem with this is the interests are pretty divided in the family..the ages range from 50s all the way down to 10..so obviously it would be challenging to figure something out that would be good for everyone.

     

    so does anyone have any ideas for things we could maybe do, similar to white elephant without the gag part?

    My friend and I went to Circuit City at 1:45 he was trying to get the Xbox 360 arcade bundle, there were about 30 people in line and a few more guys throwin a football and stuff in the parking lot, so we sat in the car for a bit, then we left to get some drinks and came back at 2:30 and got in line until they opened. It rained heavy for a while in the middle and it was generally a wet experience (my first time actually waiting for the store to open on BF), the doors opened and we (with quite a few others) went to the gaming area to find out that THEY ONLY HAD 3 OF THE ARCADE BUNDLE! so all but 3 people were generally upset about that..so my friend just got the premium one and we went back to my house rather disappointed that we stayed up all night for that. By the time the doors opened the line was around the corner of the building.

     

    After a quick nap we went to gamestop for him to get some games..I didn't get anything at all today.

    Are there any Black Friday deals for the PS3 Game Systems? My 10 year old wants one really bad but I can't spend $500!

     

    I tried the search feature but it brought up PS3 games...not the system. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

    Best Buy has a doorbuster bundle with Ratchet and Clank, a good game for a 10yo for $399 which is just the price for the console..that game is very highly rated too.

    Hi,I have the worst headache! I have been on the internet all morning trying to find the best deal on a PS3 for my 15 yo step son.My son told me he wanted Halo 5 (I think that's right).I read through this thread,I am sorry if I missed something.

    I am to the point right now that I am just going to go to wal mart and buy the 80 gig console and the game seperately.

    Halo is an Xbox only game series..so the ps3 won't play it..gotta get an Xbox 360 for Halo 3..If I am understanding you right, sorry if this is not what you meant. I'm pretty tired.

     

     

    Also I have a question..my friend and I are going to brave the cold and rain to try and get him an xbox 360..he wants the $199 arcade with hard drive bundle at Circuit City..will this be something that disappears quick? or could we leave at say..5 or 5:30 and still get one? we are in a suburb of Dallas.

    DH has been talking about both Wii and PS3 for about a year now. He has recently decided that he likes the PS3 better. I am thinking about getting him one for Christmas....it's not really something "on his list" but I thought it would be a nice surprise. Do you think there is any indication of it coming down in price over the holidays at all, or will I be better off just looking for a really great price on a bundle? I have never bought a game system before (our DD is only 3, so she's not into anything like that...yet!) so I have no idea if they normally go on sale around holidays, or if the price is pretty much fixed all year through.

    Game consoles rarely, if ever, go on sale.

     

    and the PS3 will not have a price drop until a rumored one in spring.

    I am probably gonna get Endwar for Xbox 360 on BF from BB..could any of the BF vets tell me if I would need to wait in line for something that as a hardcore gamer I can say won't be in huge demand this holiday.

     

    Unless I can get a better deal from Gamestop this is what I am going with.

     

    I am also not saying I am going at like 11am or anything..I would wake up with the sun probably..6am or so.

    Ok, I'm sure these questions have been asked 50 bajillion times, but I have searched and searched and I couldn't really find the answer to my question, so if any of you out there would help me I would appreciate it so much.

     

    My sister and I are getting my 11 year old brother the Xbox 360 for Christmas. Most likely we'll be getting him the Pro bundle, but here's my question. Is the Elite Bundle or rather the Elite system so much better than the Pro that it would be a waste of money to not get the Elite?

     

    I want to make sure that what he has is going to be the best for our money and the best for his gaming entertainment. I thought the Pro would be fine because it has a 60 gb hard drive and honestly that much space will be fine.

     

    I know that some of the space is already taken up because of demos and such but even with the space taken up it's still more than enough.

     

    However, we are also getting him a new HD TV and I want the games and dvds he plays and watches to look their best, I mean this is a lot of money we're spending we might as well make sure it's the best we can get.

     

    So, what else will we need to get him as far as accessories go if we get him the Pro? The only thing for sure that I know the Elite has that the Pro does not is the HDMI cable.

     

    I'm guessing that's for hi-def stuff, but I obviously know nothing about that. Do we need the HDMI cable if he's getting an HD TV so that everything will be hi-def and look the best it can?

     

    To be honest the online game play is not that important right now because we feel that he might be a little too young to be online with all the older teenagers and adults.

     

    I think there's a pretty general consensus that even though you have to pay for Xbox Live and not for the PS3 online service, Xbox live is better in that respect so when we do let him play online he'll be set with that.

     

    I am just more concerned about what kinds of cables and accessories we'll need and what we need to make sure the game plays as smoothly as possible and looks as great as it can.

    You can get a cheap HDMI cable online and that is the highest quality you can get. You figured out the only difference with the Elite coming with an HDMI cable..I also suggest getting the Play and Charge kit for the wireless controllers..it comes with a rechargeable battery pack..it will save him a lot on batteries..

    I am lost on this whole PS3 thing. They remarketed the 80 gig ones and repriced them to make them match the 40 gig ones, or something or other..I think! Can someone help me out in understanding which one I need to get? Can any of the ones that are out play PS2 games?

    there is currently only one PS3 available to buy new and that is the $399 80gig, it has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games. Only the 60gb, 20gb(?) and the LAST 80gb(Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle) have backwards compatibility with PS2. the current one you will find in stores ($399 80gb) does NOT play PS2 games. if you can find the MGS4 bundle 80gb for a good price I suggest getting that if you want to play PS2 games..it also has 4 USB ports..which is good if you need to charge 4 controllers at once.

    So the Guitar Hero guitar cannot play completely with Rock Band, there are features that are needed to play Rock Band. I know if I did not get the guitar for each game, DS would be having a fit if he could not play correctly. He played ROck Band and Guitar Hero 3 in BB the other day and was able to get really far into Rock Band, and he was already on expert with GH3. I figure at the rate he goes he will get thru the entire GH3 within the first 2 weeks after he gets it. He has already gotten thru the entire PS2 Guitar Hero 1 & 2. The only reason he has not gotten thru the other PS2 game 80's is because he has not gotten it yet. Those are the 1st games he will be playing for his Birthday and Christmas.

    yeah I am the same way, I have GH3 and still want the Rock Band bundle for the entire experience.

    yeah the people that gave you that information got it backwards..the Rock Band guitar wont work with Guitar Hero. But If you use the GH guitar for Rock Band you are losing a few features like extra fret buttons used for freestyle solo sections in songs and an effects switch.

    can you play old xbox games on the 360??

    Also,,can someone explain the difference to me between the 360 "arcade" & the regular consoles, (besides the $70 price difference). I'm LOST! LOL

    you can play MOST original xbox games..at this point most of the big titles are available, I still own some xbox games that I can't play on 360. The Arcade version does not include the 20gb hard drive like the premium or halo 3 consoles, but it comes with 5 free arcade games.

    What is the difference between the Xbox 360 elite and the Xbox 360. My mom wants to get my brother one and we are looking at bundles. Please help explain the difference!!! He does want to be able to play online with it so I know the arcade one won't work but I am not sure of the other two. Thanks for any and all help.

    The Elite comes with a 120GB harddrive and is black..all versions now have HDMI, the regular 360 also has a 20GB harddrive and is white, other then that they are the same machines. If it is in the price range the Elite is always the better choice.

    The PS3 is aimed at the adult or atleast older teen crowd..the Xbox 360 has a wide range of games (and just games in general..) I own the 360, and I love it, it just recently got the red lights so I have to send it in..but the amount of great games for it just keeps me from trading it in for a PS3..I think having a 360 and Wii is the ultimate gaming combination.
