If you aren't looking for a particular brand or model waiting until after the Super Bowl is probably a good idea. But the 2009s will be coming out in March. Phillips supposedly has some great new models arriving in stores beginning in March-July.

Check out this "simple" explanation: From my understanding, NTSC is on its way out and ATSC is the newer technology. If you buy a TV that has ONLY an NTSC tuner, after 2009 you will have to buy a digital box to convert the signal to ATSC.
