  1. 3:30? Wow. Not sure I can do that. I mainly want to get a pair of shoes or 2 ad getting one of those scratch off thigns would be nice.

    However...

Worst thing is the Sports Authority is next to a Best Buy and across the street from a Target and HH Gregg. VERY high traffic area.

  2. I ahve been on and off the fence. It would come in handy for some trips that I ahve taken and also when my parents and/or sister go different places.

However, most of the deals in store seem to be very close to what I can find online if I just pay attention and keep an eye out.

IF ther was a CC near me NOT closing, I would probably jump for that Garmin since it has the text to speech and the widescreen.

At this point though, I will probably jsut end up waiting untila fter the first of the year unless something pops up between now and then.

  3. I was going to go to HD today but got busy around the house helping my parent's finish cleaning and everything for tomorrow sicne some neighbors are coming voer for lunch/dinner.

I imagine I will have no issues getting the stuff I want on Friday morning. Especially since the HD we will be going to is not in a high traffic area and the apst 2 years ahve had TONS of the "bigger" items.

Btw, the 6 pack of flashlights decent?

  4. Doesn't ahve to be internal. Wouldn't be hard to install or anything if that is what I decide on getting.

It just makes it a little harder when i have to get a refund on my tuiton from school since I had to pay it out of pocket this semester because my scholarship didn't get "processed in time" so I have to wait 2-3 more weeks to get a nice check back from the school... Even though ti was suppopsed to be here a week ago and it would ahve allowed me to get ALL my shopping done for Christmas basically this weekend minus any online deals the next month.

  5. Yeah, I signed up for the email thing a few days ago. A 22" won' fit where they have their computer so 19" is the max (measured that this afternoon). I LOVE my 22" though and it just fits in my desk, got about 1/2'' to either side of it.

I will check out those sites for a media card reader. When i had got my computer I forgot to add one and have been regretting it. Makes it hard to use an SD card in my phone if I can' put any info on it.

  6. Marcster, how often do they have good deals on monitors? I am very tempted to get the Acer for my parents for Christmas (or my dad's birthday) sicne they are using an old 15" LCD of mine...

It is very, very tempting but I also have a couple other things that I am looking at at some of the places on Friday.

Thos HDMi cables are also tempting me, but with no HDTV (yet...) I will probably hold off.

Alsoo might have looked over it, but where there any media card readers on sale? I need one, and cheap is always good.

  7. I stay away from BB at all costs on BF. I have generally had good luck with Target sicne we get there early after hitting HH Gregg and Home Depot, then go to Target then hit Ae and are done. THough this year we may have to go to Sears so yuck...

Also stopped by my BB to look at the price of a couple refidgerators for my parents, and I was talking to one of the Tech guys when i was leaving and he said he thinks they will have somewhere b/t 25-40 of the monitors at the store near me. Maybe more, but that truck doesn't get in until tomorrow so...

  8. I'm gonna check out the BB close to me when I get out of class tonight and then drive by the WM close to there. Oh, why couldn't my spanish prof cancel class tonight...

I doubt there will be anyone there yet...I expect tomorrow erly evening though to see people start camping.

  9. Yeah. I am going to be out this afternoon for a little bit to go to the post office to mail a couple packages for my parents (oh yay, the post office!...). I am going to go by Target and check out the Westi. The more I read about the majority of them online, especially the smaller sets, the more I want to back away.

I have looked at diff sets off and on and usually my favorites or SOny, Sammy and then LG when I a looking at them. I was interested ina Toshiba that is on sale for like 650 for a 40' 1080p but it has some mixed reviews.

I was going to wait and see if some palce had a real good deal on a bundle with TV and surround sound between now and Christmas (or just after the first of the year). But it seems liek Best Buy always bundles it with Geek Squad set up, and I really do not need that.

  10. Len, sicne you seem to be the resident "know-it-all", how would you rank the brands of tvs. Mainly looking at LCDs sicne the room it would go in has too many windows from it and other rooms that a plasma is not an option with so much glare.

Mainly looking at the "big" brands ie Sony, Samsung, LG, Toshiba, Sharp...

Also, if I chose to get a tv that would be used for say a year or so, would the Westinghouse be a decent brand for that? Once it was done being the main tv it would just become a game tv or soemthing.

  11. I don't remember seeing any in the BF ads. However, there is usually one in the regular Sunday ads at Best Buy and such most weeks. I would look in the ads tomorrow or next Sunday. Or you could always check amazon and places that may be slightly cheaper...
  12. So, I have checked the ads out again after letting them kind of "fit" on my computer for a few days, and have noticed some things.

First, there are some very good deals, but it depends on what you are looking for. An example would be that I am looking at getting some new shoes and Sports Authority has a very good deal on this. So, for me I am happy for that but many others are not.

Second, and this is the main thing (as others have stated), BF has gotten so much more press and all teh last 4 or 5 years, that EVERYONE seems to go shopping. This has seemed to make retailers realize that while they can still offer some very, very good deals on say 6-12 items, people will still buy what seems like an excellent deal even if it is a reg. sale price. And that is what retailers like.

While the economy is in much worse shape than a year ago and everyone is looking for a deal...the avg. consumer is going to see something that says $300 off and think that is a great deal and a steal...even if we have seen that price on here off and on all year.

A final thing is that it sems a lot of electronics, especialy tvs and the like (regular DVD players, computers, etc) have started to reach the point where it is not logical for retailers to have huge markdowns on them. We still see that for a few items this year, but nothing like 4+ years ago. It almost seems like we are in a somewhat "transition" period for soem technologies that the super special awesome deals will be less until the next big wave of consumer electronic tech comes along.

I will still be going out, but I will most likely hold off on electronics. I will be content to go to Home Depot, Ace, Target etc and pick up things that I need around the house or a few DVDs that I don't have yet (or that at least seem to walk away anytime you need one).

  13. Thanks marcster, I will do that. Yeah, I do not trust many, if any "house brands". My parents have had good lcuk with a tv they bought I guess 5 or 6 years ago that was a housebrand (of sorts). Also have had good luck with a portable DVD player that they felt if they got a year or 2 out of it would ahve been worth it, and it is still going strong 5 years later. But overall, i am leary of them...

I do remember that they did ahve a couple good deals on tvs, one a 42" and the other a 27" or soemthing earlier this week or last week? And I had never really heard of the brands, I think one was Hanspree or soemthing like that...

  14. Does Old Navy have any of these deals online? I know I ordered some stuff from tehm alst year and saved a ton, but don't remember if that was for BF or if it was just a random time between BF and Christmas I bought the stuff.

I have 3 Old Navys fairly close to the house, but the biggest downside is all 3 are in fairly high traffic and visible areas so chances are I would have a huge wait and have to get there at or before 5. And I have other places I would rather be at 5...like possibly my bed.

  15. Is Newegg that good? I have seen that recently they ahve had some pretty good deals on TVs, but they weren't the name brands that I always hear about so that makes me a hesitant to buy since if I didn't like it I would ahve to ship it back and all.

I have never really gone through their site in detail to look at the deals, but I amy do that once school breaks for Thanksgiving next Tuesday and I have a few days to re-charge from term papers and everything.

  16. Looks like ti will be just the standard 20% off like alst year and then add the rebates for the doorbusters.

IS that Blu Ray they ahve from Sharp a good one? If I was going to get one I would probably stick with a Sony or see which is the cheapest of the ones that have the firmware upgrade and all of that.

  17. Ah, ok. Yeah, that smelled funny lst year. Almost like 1 or 2 people in upper management freaked when it got sent.

Even if upper manageent is a little psycho, they are MUCH easier to get in and out of than BB where I live, and CC when it was still "viable".

  18. Oh, what happened last year? I can't remember what companies get their boxers in a bunch from year to year... Plus, with 2 term papers due in the next week, 2 presentations, and some other misc stuff before finals my brain is pressed for space!
