  3. Hi Guys.

The first year I was a cashier for a retail store (its called Fred Meyer, it's just in WA, OR, and Alaska i think). Anyway, usually the first cashier of the day is scheduled to come in at 7am. Well when the schedule came out for the Thanksgiving week, I saw that I was scheduled to come in at 6am. I asked why and they said that it is for the "day after thanksgiving sale". i saw that there were about 8 people scheduled to come in at 6am. I thought that was the strangest thing EVER. So all week, I was just thinking like "whatever?? Just because the store opens an hour early, at 6am, why would ANYBODY actually GO to the store at 6am???"

So...I got up that morning...drove to the store...pulled in the parking lot and was SHOCKED! :shock:It was FULL! (HUGE parking lot too, might i add)....there was a HUGE line in front of the store! So I drive around BACK to the employee lot, and it was FULL of customers cars... I thought...OMGOODNESS!!! :eyepoppinRan in, went through to the salesfloor and they had opened the doors (apparently) and I could HARDLY get THROUGH the aisles to get to the front!

I could not believe it! I got the the front...and told everyone that I'd questioned being there at 6am all week...now I see why! :cheesy:

  4. Hi, My name is Grassy :tongue1:

I am married and have 3 boys.

I never knew that "the big sales on the day after Thanksgiving" actually had a name until I came to GottaDeal. So now if I say Black Friday, my husband still looks at me like :confused:and I say "you know...the day after Thanksgiving!" :sidesplit

  5. Also--- (LOL--I know...me again :) )

My DH's family trades "family names". There are only 5 families, and one doesnt even participate....LOL.

So we do a 4-way trade, and it isn't even a surprise...We are trying hard to keep the focus on being together, rather than opening presents for 2 hours.

Personally for that many people--let's see, 7 adults? I'd rather just by for everyone, but it's been decided that they all like this family swap...so I go with the flow.

  6. On Chirstmas Eve, my Dad's whole family still gets together. It has grown to quite a good sized group. 10 Older Adults (ages 55-65), 20-25 Adults (ages 30-40), and never counted how many kids. :)

They have had the tradition since around 1990 to do a white elephant gift exchange for an item of around a $15.00 value.

One problem with "drawing names" for a large group, is what if someone can't come at the last minute? Then someone there won't get their gift that night.

With the white elephant (try to tell people not to bring gag gifts)...whoever comes and wants to participate, have them bring a gift.

Rule: if you come with a gift, you'll leave with a gift.

For the most part, they make the gifts unisex, but if it is more for a woman, you can mark that on the outside...so that a man won't end up with bath & Body Works...LOL.

Good Luck...In MY opiniion....I would NEVER buy gifts for a group of 50 people. That is just not in the budget, and the adults I know would feel better about just a name exchange (if you know EVERYONE will be there) or a white elephant.

The other thing about the white elephant, is that it is a fun Activity as well. It is kind of the highlight of the night, it gets everyone involved with the same activity, instead of just everyone mingling in their own little clusters all night.

Good luck! Sorry my response was so long...I guess I'm chatty this morning....:)

  7. I would have never thought of that. Thought they where some kind of "special" bag. Thanks

    LOL...that is too funny....

I read the topic and was thinking SO hard of what they would be....I have a HUGE box of like 100 piping bags for my cake decorating, and it didn't even cross my mind that it was those....LOL.

  8. Can I also just say... If things were crazy enough that my kids' heads could get knocked off, I would not be there myself!

Fortunately it doesn't seem like out BF's around here are as crazy as some of those you are talking about.

  9. I only go to one *maybe* two stores each year. We don't go until like around 10am or so, so things have calmed down a bit. Last year I took my 2 boys they were ages 2 and 4 at the time. We wanted free donut holes at our favorite store! It is a tradition! LOL.

Do I DARE say this around here?????? Here goes....I'm not a big black Friday shopper!

    OMG...I'm in trouble now.....:gdparanoid:
