  3. As someone who ran my own business and hired and fired more people than I care to remember, I hate to be the one to inform those that think that wages are somehow tied to better service that they are incredibly naive.

In all my years of experience, my firsthand account is that it's just not so.

There are ways to improve customer service, increasing pay isn't one of them.

And as someone who works in retail, I can tell you that plenty of my coworkers who are getting paid a little more than minimum wage have an "I don't care" attitude because of their wages. Where I work, we get two evaluations per year. On my last evaluation, my raise was poor because my manager will not give out more than 25 cents due to the economy. So that means that even as a really good worker, I can't expect more than 25 cents. Compare that to my previous evaluations where I got at least double that everytime. You better believe that after that evaluation, I stopped working harder than most of my coworkers. If I'm getting paid the same amount as my coworkers who are too lazy to lift a finger, there's not going be anymore of this above average work that I used to do. Sorry. And this includes how I deal with customers. Don't get me wrong, I'm friendly with everyone. I just don't do more for the customers like I used to.

I used to work at Target. My managers treated me and my coworkers horribly. A lot of us quit. Others did a crappy job when it came to their work. If the managers don't take care of their employees, a lot of the employees are going to care less about the quality of work they do.

  4. So let me get this straight, you read my comment and decided that I want employees to kiss my booty? I'm sorry, where did I say that? I said that they have sub-par customer service--not average customer service.

subpar-Not measuring up to traditional standards of performance, value, or production.

Compared to other stores, Walmart has the lowest prices on most items. They also pay their workers minimum wage. Expecting these workers and Walmart itself to care about being more than "subpar" when it comes to their customer service, is ridiculous. Expecting Walmart workers to do anything more than subpar IS wanting them to kiss your booty.

I don't understand why people complain about Walmart and continue to shop there. Do you expect them to change their ways? Do you REALLY think they give a crap if you decide to shop elsewhere? I don't know about where you live but where I live, there are different grocery stores that have slightly higher prices in exchange for good customer service. If you want to be treated better than how Walmart treats you, shop elsewhere. I shop at Walmart about once every two weeks. I've never had a problem with an employee treating me badly (mainly because I'm not as needy as some other customers can be), I've never had a problem with an employee taking my coupons, and I've never had a problem returning something (because I keep my darn receipts!). And if I DO have a problem with an employee treating me badly, I know not to deal with that employee in the future. It's as simple as that. The problem with customers who think certain stores have bad customer service is that they expect too much, they probably have an entitled sort of attitude, or they just like complaining about any and everything that goes wrong when they're shopping. When I'm shopping, all I care about is getting my goods at good prices. I don't expect more than a "hello, how are you?" and a "have a nice day!" from cashiers. Anything more than that, is obviously a positive. Anything less, I'll know not to deal with that employee in the future. And if it's a really bad experience, I won't shop there anymore.

  5. Consider yourself to be very lucky to have friendly and helpful WM employees. Unfortunately, you seem to be the exception! I have been in many WalMart stores, and the sub-par grumpy service seems to be the same wherever I go.

So let me get this straight. You shop at a store that has lower prices than most stores AND they pay their employees minimum wage. And you expect their customer service to be any better than just average? If you want to shop at a store where the employees kiss your booty, consider shopping somewhere where the prices are a little higher and the employees get paid more than $7 an hour.

  6. It has been said on here that it is hoped that they figure out who did this and charge them accordingly. The problem with this is the people in the front are not totally to blame. Have you ever been at the front of a crowd of people who are all wanting to push forward? I experienced something like that at a concert when I was in college. The people in the front do not control what the crowd does. There have been instances where people have died in similar situations. I hope that Walmart has learned another valuable lesson. Crowds need to be controlled. This was a senseless tragedy.

I thought to, perhaps there are not enough Walmarts in that area to serve the people. We have two, one about 5 minutes from my house and one about 7 minutes from my house. I went into one around 6:30 a.m. Friday to price match something at Best Buy and got in and out quickly.

But didn't they break down the door? How could the people behind the people up front break down the door?

  7.

Dozens of store employees trying to fight their way out to help Damour were also getting trampled by the crowd, Fleming said. Shoppers stepped over the man on the ground and streamed into the store.

What kind of person would knock someone over, step on them, kill them, and just keep on walking so that they could get a $2 DVD? And what kind of person would trample other people who were trying to help the person that you just killed? I am so disgusted.

You know, I'd like to think that the people who did this are feeling really guilty right now but I have a strong feeling that they're just sitting at home watching the $2 DVD that they bought.

  8. By the way, how do you get the picture posted? I only know to show it as an attachment.

Right click on the picture you want to post and click on "Properties". Then copy the "Address (URL)". Then in the reply box on Gottadeal you should see a yellow square picture of a mountain. Click on that and then paste the URL. Hope that makes sense.

  9. Cationary on this video! It shows emergency personnel working on the victim, not the trampling of him. If you are faint of heart, don't watch it. ~ Patty

Is this the video from the trampling?

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/11/28/national/main4637170.shtml

That video is disgusting-people laughing, some guy yelling "they need to shock 'em". A guy is lying there dead or dying and you're laughing? I'd be shocked. You can blame Walmart all you want but I find it disgusting that all those people continued to step on this guy until he died. All to save a couple bucks. That's disturbing.

  10. I woke up at 3 am after 3 hours of sleep and got ready. My two friends came to my house and we left at around 3:40. Our first stop was JC Penney. We got our free Mickey snowglobes. My sister bought a $5 doorbuster ring for herself and a Sephora lip gloss set for a friend for $22. One of my friends bought two pairs of socks. I started to feel dizzy when they were checking out so I went outside for some fresh air. We then stopped at a gas station for some water for myself and a snack for the others. Our next stop was Kohl's. I bought a 3 pack of wrapping paper for $4, one friend bought a few picture frames that were on sale, and another bought a few picture frames, a couple of outfits for kids on her list, and a wall quote thing for $17 for my sister.

Then we decided to head to the mall which is an hour away. We went to Target which was pretty darn busy. My friend bought a dvd and my sister bought one of the $69 guitars for herself as well as a $24 popcorn maker for my older sister. We had a bit of a problem because the cashier's register wasn't working properly. My sister slid her card and it said that the transaction was complete but the receipt didn't print out because the screen froze. We then moved to another register where they had to ring up her stuff again and she had to slide her card again. She was afraid that it went though twice but the guest service team leader assured us that she voided the other transaction. We'll see when the bill comes. From there we went to Best Buy so my friend could buy one of the $49 digital frames. At this point it was around 8am and the entire mall didn't open until 9 so we stopped for food at Ihop and then we went to Kmart where I bought a peanuts set for $6 for my dad and my friend bought hot wheels cars for two boys on her list.

At the mall, we went to Old Navy where my sister bought pajama pants for herself (I think she spent more on herself than anyone else ;)) for $10. We also went to a book store and a couple of other stores but we didn't buy anything. Then we went across the street to Books a Million to try to find a Twilight set but they were all gone. Then we went home. I'll probably hit a couple of stores later. I didn't buy much because all I have left to buy for is my dad who is hard to buy for and two of my friend's kids who are 1 and also small for their age so I have to find appropriate toys for them which isn't easy. Overall, I had sooooo much fun and I only witnessed a couple of people arguing and I only had to yell at one person (LOL).

Edit: At around 2pm, I went to Target and finished my Christmas shopping. I got two bath toys for the twin 1 year olds on my list which were $7 each and I got two gift bags to put them in at $1.29 each. Then I bought a pair of jeans for my dad which were on sale for $7.50, a 3 pack of car cleaning wipes for $8 or $9, and a car emergency kit for $20. My sister got a onesie for a friend's daughter, socks, underwear, and t-shirts for my dad, wrapping paper, and Dead Rising for the Xbox 360 for me. My mom got a fuzzy king size blanket for $25 for my older sister (she's about to buy her first house) as well as bras for my sisters and I (on clearance) and a few towel sets for my sister.

We then went to Ross where my sister got a few outfits and a tea set for the kids on her list, a bath set for me, and a bunch of pans, a porcelain serving dish, and a couple of other things for my mom.

  11. I have tried many different hair straighteners but nothing compares to my Chi. Not only does it straighten my hair quicker but I've also definitely noticed that compared to cheaper ones, my hair is far, far less damaged because the plates on the Chi are ceramic.
  12. There are a lot of semi-recent movies on sale. Great for stocking stuffers!! Or if you need to spend a few more dollars to get free super saving shipping...

    8. Easiest person to buy for? Probably my older sister

    24. Favorite food for Christmas dinner? We've always had turkey. We might try prime rib this year.

    25. What do you want for Christmas this year? I really want a video camera and drums. Really, I'm not that picky. I'm happy with whatever I get. And if I don't get drums and a video camera, I'll end up buying it myself.

  14. What rule is being broken? I'll camp out like crazy for something but won't hide stuff, but I'm curious as to where this notion of hiding items is wrong or breaking a rule.

Well, you're taking an item away from someone who may have waited in line longer than you. I guess it all depends on what you perceive to be wrong or right. I personally don't think it's right to hide things and I don't think it's necessarily right to sell tickets for items. Maybe it's because, like I said in my last post, the Christmas season is supposed to be about giving, not being greedy. *shrugs*

  15. Here's what's on my list to check out but I probably won't be buying all of it:

    Aiptek camcorder-Probably going to buy

    DVDs

    Black and Decker Power Scissors

    Fleece Robe

    Play-doh Super Rainbow Pack

Video Games for PS2, Wii, and Xbox 360

    Toddlers 2-Piece Licensed Sleep Set

Xhilaration 2-Piece Pajama Set for Her

  16. When I worked at Target a couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of working in the electronics department on Black Friday. As employees, we were not allowed to hold BF items for ourselves. And as employees, although we understood the reasoning, we thought it was unfair that we couldn't get in on the deals just because we were working. The unfortunate part is that most of the employees HAD to work on BF so there's no way we could've gotten in on the deals. Well, one of my coworkers really wanted a portable DVD player that was on sale. The store had been open for a few hours now so the DVD players were obviously all gone... so I thought. We kept our carts of go-backs (which are items that either customers don't want while they're checking out or items that we've found in the store that belong to a different department) in the backroom. When it was a bit slower, I went to the backroom to start putting away go-backs. In the bottom of the cart was one of the DVD players that were on sale. I put all of the go-backs away except for the DVD player. And when my coworker clocked out, I let her know that there was a DVD player in the backroom for her. She, of course, bought it.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is that Black Friday is a day where all of us want in on the great deals. People are willing to wait in line overnight, people don't mind physically fighting over items, and people don't mind breaking the rules a bit (like hiding items beforehand or holding items for coworkers like I did). Especially with the economy this year as bad as it is, I don't think it's wrong or right to do certain things. Just remember that this time of year is supposed to be about happyness and giving, not greed and violence. ;)

  17. I won't know my final plan until Thanksgiving because the other people shopping with me have yet to see the ads. We'll probably hit the mall where JC Penney, Best Buy, and a few other stores are located. Then we'll go across the street to Target and Circuit City. From there, who knows. I'm not too impressed with the deals this year. The only thing I'm really looking to get is the Aiptek camcorder at Target. Other than that, I'm just going out for the fun of it.
