  1. Sorry you have all had these problems with buy.com. I had a ton of problems with them during Christmas 2006 - everything from broken items to misshipments to faulty rebate info on some products. I never received any help from them and have never bought from them since.
  2. The store in Greenville, SC was almost cleaned out, but what was left was strewn all over the place. Looks like they took the popular technique of raising the prices so they could run everything 30-40% off. For example, a Navy hooded sweatshirt we bought a few months ago for $8.99 (regular price) is now $13.99 and 30% off. It's a shame they're closing though - they had the best fitting jeans for our son.....
  3. Target has a 2nd gen for $229 (regualr retail) and then they throw in a $25 target gift card at purchase - you could use that GC for accessories?
  4. I believe Target has the 2nd gen for $229 (regular retail) plus a $25 Target gift card this week
  5. Toys R Us has the Halo 3 Legendary Edition for $44.99 - great deal on it if you'd like to have all the extras! http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2549828
  6. My DW spoke with one of the managers at a local Target today and was told that they will NOT honor price adjustments for items in the 2 day after Thanksgiving sale. I had no problems getting an item adjusted last year - has anyone else been told something similar in their local Target? EDIT - changed my wording above, my question was actually about adjusting the price of an item that WAS bought from Target and then goes on sale during the 2-day sale after Thanksgiving. Last year I got an adjustment on something, this year we were told that they will not do an adjustment if it's on an item in this weekend's ad.
  7. I ordered numerous items from them last Christmas, and had similar shipping issues on a few of them. I also had TONS of problems with the mail in rebates that they seem to offer on everything. Long story short I finally gave up on half of the expected rebates after fighting for them until ~ April of this year. Never bought anything from them since and don't plan to ever again.
  8. I finally had a chance to look around the store in Greenville, SC - looks like they've followed the trend of the prior closings and have marked things at the MSRP and then marked back down (10% on nearly all PC items). For example, a LInksys wireless G router that they were selling for $49.99 (and WM and BB still sell at that price) has now been marked at $69.99 and then 10% off. The same was true on Logitech speakers; 2 people next to me were price shopping with a friend on their cell phone and 2 different models were marked $20-30 higher than the store the friend was in - but I didn't catch the name.... The amazing part was that people were climbing over each other to grab the "deals" and lots of people were lined up at the registers. I guess with sales like that there's not much reason to change their ways at this point!
  9. The info above about closings was indeed about the first round, but the link in the post takes you to the new article - Agam Shah, IDG News Service Fri Dec 7, 8:00 PM ET Computer and electronics retailer CompUSA announced on Friday that it would start winding down its retail operations after being acquired by an investment firm, which is looking to sell the company's business and assets. Gordon Brothers Group is discussing with different parties the sale of stores in key retail markets and CompUSA's other assets, including the Internet retail unit CompUSA.com and technical-support-services business CompUSA TechPro. The retail stores that don't sell will be shut down, CompUSA said in a statement. The 103 stores will remain open during the holiday shopping season and provide heavy discounts on products. The sale comes amid the financial struggles of CompUSA's parent company, Mexico-based holding company US Commercial Corp. SA de CV. During the third quarter of 2007, the company reported a loss of 494.8 million Mexican pesos ($45.7 million) on revenue of 4.6 billion Mexican pesos. The company also reported losses the previous two fiscal years. In February, CompUSA said it would shut 126 stores as part of a massive restructuring effort in which it received a $400 million cash infusion from an unnamed investor. FYI, I found no "heavy discounts" so far this season; given their obvious lack of buisness sense, maybe they'll wait until 6PM on Christmas Eve to mark everything down :)
  10. You might also check your local Best Buy (if you have one) - ours had a few of these last week for $19.99.
  11. Their site shows it's already OOS at all 4 stores in my area, and the $22.00 greatest hits games are also already OOS for both online and in store purchase!
  12. Does that mean you cannot use the printable coupons with this deal?
  13. If you're not using the Xbox Live service, you'll probably be OK for a while with no HD. FYI, some games require the HD - but they should have it labelled as such on the game packaging. Just keep in mind that he'll need space on the memory card unit for any saved games. Check with a sales person when you buy the system to be sure there is enough space on those for a few game saves so he won't lose progress on anything he's playing.
  14. Just grabbed it! Thanks for the post on this great deal :)
  15. You need to have the system that includes the hard drive in order to play the original Xbox games or downloadable Xbox Live arcade games - you'd also need it to download any demos of games that are offered on Live. You CAN use the memory cards to save some data (game saves, etc.) if you're using a system without a HD, but they are very limited in size and would probably prove to be a waste of money in the long run. Remember, though, that the basic system itself is identical as far as the Arcade/Core/Pro name goes - they've just trimmed the retail price by removing the HD from the cheaper configuration. If you buy a cheaper version for now, you can add the HD to it later - it just plugs into the side of the Xbox. I have the system with a 20gb HD, and with all of the content available on Live (even at the free "silver" subscription level) I cannot imagine trying to fully enjoy the system without it...
