  1. They are already sold out. Sorry.
  2. I'm a college student so I have time to kill anyways lol.
  3. That's good to hear. It has the same processor and ram as the Sony. Below is a link for people comparing processors. Rather than just looking at the name of the processor, look at the specific model of processor. For example the Sony Vaio at Best Buy has the processor at rank 74 while the Toshiba has the processor at rank 65. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html
  4. I've narrowed down my choices to 2 laptops from Best Buy. Sony for $479 vs. Toshiba for $399 From what I have read, the Toshiba has the better processor of the two as the Sony has an Intel Pentium Dual Core to the Toshiba's Intel Core 2 Duo. The Toshiba is not a doorbuster, but the Sony supposedly is (Can anyone confirm this? The "Doorbuster" logo isn't directly by the the Sony with Blu-ray but is by the other Sony Vaio). The Toshiba does not have Blu-ray however. I was just wondering if somebody with computer knowledge had any input into this decision. Any help would be appreciated. To simplify: Sony Vaio vs. Toshiba Satellite $479 $399 Blu-ray No Blu-ray Slower processor Faster processor 4 GB Ram (but DDR2) 3 GB Ram (but DDR3) Wait outside store Order online and avoid the crowds Anybody have personal preference of the two brands? A few years ago I choose an HP at Best Buy on Black Friday over the Sony Vaio available. My HP has been falling apart, so I was also wondering what people's experiences with Toshiba and Sony has been.
  5. I would just like to point out I also bought the HP laptop and 2 GB memory off the internet. I payed $25 (shipping) to not sit out in the cold for 15 hours. What a relief it was to wake up and find it for sale online. I woke up early too instead of sleeping in like I wanted to. Something told me I should probably wake up.
  6. I think this is the one he/she was talking about. http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?ref=performics&product_code=348486&pfp=hpf1 Thanks again for answering all my questions nirvana4all. Good luck shopping/waiting everyone. Hopefully my next post will be on my new laptop.
  7. Is there any reason to buy the Sony over the HP at Best Buy besides the logo and $50 price difference? I think the Core Duo on the Sony has a better battery life, but that is not a very important factor to me. The HP has 40 GB more hard drive space and can hold 4 GB of ram, while the Sony can only hold 2 GB. It seems like everybody is after the Sony. Is it just because of the name and the fact that it has a doorbuster sticker slapped on it?
  8. Ok. I have narrowed my choices down to two laptops at Best Buy. 1) Sony Vaio $399 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=WJBQQCWX4EN1JKC4D3JFAGY?skuId=8587772&productCategoryId=abcat0502003&type=product&tab=2&id=1190677437770#productdetail 2) HP Pavilion $449 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8595308&productCategoryId=abcat0502003&type=product&tab=2&id=1190678470786#productdetail I plan to upgrade the memory by 2 GB, so in the end the Sony would have 2 GB ram and the HP would have 3 GB ram. I saw both of them up close and did not like the build quality of the Sony. It felt like plastic. Is the Sony processor (Intel Core Duo) that much better than the HP (AMD Athlon 64 X2)? (Less than 24 hours till sit-in-line time)
  9. Thanks nirvana4all. The main thing I was wondering was how the "dual" part of the processor affected its speed.
  10. Well, I'm not really looking for HD movie playback as much as downloaded HD files playback. I have an HDTV so I would use the VGA out to view the files. I'm just wondering what processor speed is required for 720p playback. I read somewhere that 2.4GHz is the minimum for HD playback. Does dual core mean times 2 for the processor speed? For example, the Sony says 1.5 Ghz for processor speed. Since its dual core, does that mean its processor speed is 3.0 Ghz? I really don't need that powerful of a computer as any computer would be an upgrade of the computer I have now. I appreciate any advice.
  11. Nice find snickstx. I think you are still going to have to wait in line if you want to snag one of the Sonys. If there is a cheap $250 laptop, people will purchase that until supplies run out. Then, people will begin to buy the next cheapest one, which happens to be the Sony. If you're looking for a doorbuster laptop, you're going to have to wait in line (in almost all cases).
  12. Do you feel the Sony Vaio would have a processor powerful enough for HD viewing or should I look to shell out more money?
  13. I have a question. I'm looking to buy a laptop this BF and was wondering what specs are optimal for HD (720p) video playblack. Is the processor more important or the ram?
